Book Review: The New Road to Serfdom

I'd like to introduce you to a new favorite of mine. It's called the New Road to Serfim by Daniel Hannan. Now, I was at a meeting, I heard Daniel Hannon speak and I spoke to him. And this book is autographed to me. Ta ta. And what it is, it's a takeoff on the 1944 book by Friedrich Hayek, Nobel prize winning economist called the Road to Serfdom. And what he says, and he's a member of the European Parliament from England, what he says is that America is on the new road to serfdom in that we are spending so much money and becoming so deeply in debt and we are layering our society with so many regulations that have to be controlled by so many millions of bureaucrats that were strangling this country and we're all going to become serfs. The latest predictions are that the average American will be paying 70 to 80% tax taxes in a few years just to pay for the programs that are on the books right now. And what Daniel says is here's how you got here, here's what you're doing, here's the mistakes they've made in Europe which have put them on the road to serfdom. And here are the positive, constructive things that Americans can do to turn back from this road to freedom, independence, free enterprise, opportunity, growth, prosperity, low indebtedness and smaller government. Wonderful book. The New Road to Serfdom. It's a quick read. You can read it quickly and you'll really enjoy it.
