Let's talk today about daring to dream, how you can seize the day with seven simple steps. Allow yourself to dare to dream big dreams. Decide what's right and seize the day. Before you decide what's possible, imagine your future as if it were ideal in every respect. And remember, whatever others have done, within reason, you can probably do as well. So as Michael Jordan said, just do it. Once you've decided where you're going, the only question you ask is how do I get there? How do you get from where you are today to where you want to be sometime in the future? And keep reminding yourself failure is not an option now. You have within you today enormous untapped resources of talent and ability just waiting to be harnessed and challenged toward some great good. You must refuse to go to your grave with your music still in you. So what do you really want? If you could be or do or have anything in the world, what would it be? Allow yourself to seize the day, to dare to dream, and then go to work to make your dreams come true. This is the quality of only great men and women throughout history is they dare to dream that they can make their world into something wonderful. Now your ability to set goals and make plans for their accomplishment is called the master skill of success. This ability, developed through practice, will do more to assure your eventual success than anything else you ever learn. So here's a powerful but simple seven step method for setting and achieving goals that I have learned over the years. First, dare to dream and decide exactly what you want. Clarity is the starting point of great success. Second, write it down in detail and set a deadline for its accomplishment. Set sub deadlines if necessary. If you want to double your income in the next 12 months, then set a goal for nine months, six months, three months, and then two months, one month, and so on. A goal that is broken down into enough small steps is much easier to achieve than just a big goal. Now the third step is determine the additional knowledge and skills and abilities that you will need to achieve your goal and how you will go about acquiring them. Remember, in order to achieve something you've never achieved before, you're going to have to develop skills you've never had before. You're going to have to become better in certain areas where you have not been as good before. So always ask, here's my goal. What skill will I need in order to achieve that goal? Now the fourth step is for you to determine the obstacles and difficulties you will have to overcome to achieve your goal. And then organize them in order of size and importance. For example, you ask, why aren't you already at your goal? You say, I want to double my income in the next 12 to 24 months. Well, why isn't your income already twice as high? In other words, what's holding you back? Another way of phrasing this is you could say, what sets the speed at which I achieve my goal? Is it the number of people you talk to? Is it the quality of the people you talk to? Is it the purchasing power of the people that you talk to? Is it your position relative to your competition? In other words, determine what is setting the speed? What are the obstacles and difficulties that are holding you back today from achieving that goal? Now? Fifth, determine the people and groups and organizations whose help you will require and decide to do what you will have to do for them to earn their assistance. Remember, to achieve something you haven't achieved before, you're going to have to have the help of people who haven't helped you before. Who are they and what could you do to help them in advance? 6 Make a detailed plan broken down by activity and organized by priority and sequence. What is most important? What must be done first? What must be done before something else is done? Remember, your ability to set goals and make step by step plans for their achievement is the master skill of success. And seventh, Seize the day and take action on your plan immediately. Do something every day to move towards your goal. Get going and keep going at each stage of your life. Whenever you are confronted with the need to make new choices to set new goals, sit down and think them through using these seven steps. Always think on paper and be willing to revise your plans when you get new information. Keep working on your plans until they're complete and then just do it and execute your plans boldly.
