Brian Tracy describes practical travel strategies for extended speaking tours: efficient packing with a checklist, minimalist wardrobe and laundering strategy, dressing smartly to receive better service, constant hydration, napping on planes, and his proprietary 'Jet Lag Formula' that emphasizes hydration and hot-water baths timed to time-zone changes (5 minutes per hour of time change). He gives specific travel metrics (41-day trip to 15 countries; ~150 travel days/year) and a worked example for a 9-hour time change (45-minute hot bath).

Hello, I'm Brian Tracy, and tomorrow I am setting off on a trip that will take 41 days. It will take me to 15 countries. I will speak to many thousands of people all over Europe, the Middle east and Russia. And so people are always asking me, how do you handle all of this traveling? Well, first of all, my philosophy is that some people drive to work and I fly to work. Simple as that. I'm on the road about 150 days per year and it's about 1.5 days or 2 days for every speaking engagement that I do because of traveling time, if you like. So how do you handle it? Well, one of the first things you do is use a piece of paper and make out a list of everything that you need to take. Don't trust to memory because you can end up on the other end of the world with no toothpaste, no shampoo, no socks, no underwear, no pajamas. So make a list and always have a list that you tick off when you do your packing. I can travel for 41 days, which I will with a roller bag. I can put it all into a roller bag by planning out carefully and getting my different clothes laundered at different times on the way, by taking the right number of toiletries and so on and so forth. People say, how can you travel for so long with so few clothes? Well, I can wear a suit like this, but since I'm speaking to different audiences and different times in different places, I can wear the same suit for every single country that I go to because none of them have ever seen it before. If I am speaking to a single audience or in a single city for two days, then I wear a different tie, different shirt, so I look a little bit different. So I only need one suit. I wear one set of clothes which are casual clothes and I call them smart casual. One of the things I recommend is to dress nicely when you travel. You'll get upgraded more often. You'll get moved to the front of the line, you'll get better attention. If you dress like some people do, like they just fell off a watermelon truck, then what happens is people will treat you the same way. What I do is I drink a lot of water when I travel as well. Water and hydration are very important. I never have jet lag. I have a little system which is on my website called Brian Tracy's Jet Lag Formula. And it's a system that people use all over the world. Traveling 10, 12 time change hours from here to the middle of Asia or the middle of Russia, and they never have jet lag. Why? It's because there's a system that you can follow that's very simple. You don't take all kinds of pills and start practicing a week in advance. You just get on the plane, follow the system. And one of the most important parts of the system is hydration. Drink lots and lots of water. Drink the water until you swell up almost like a jelly bean. And within a few hours after arriving, the water will just all fall off. It's very important that you get proper rest both before traveling and when you arrive. I take naps on the plane and so on. But. But here is my biggest secret of all. It is this. It's hot water. Hot water. What you do when you travel is you sit in a hot tub at the end of your trip, not the next day, but that very day, for five minutes for every one hour of time change. So for example, I'm flying to Warsaw tomorrow. Okay, the time change is nine hours. So what I will do is before the end of the day, I will go and sit in a hot bath for 45 minutes. And you keep the water as hot as you can. You literally cook yourself. Then you get out and it will take you about an hour to cool down. And then your whole system will be re stabilized. No jet lag. It's the most amazing darn thing. So those are the key things. Be sure to plan your travel carefully. Get to the airport early, don't rush, drink all the water that you possibly can, and give yourself five minutes of hot bath for every one hour of time change. And you'll never have jet lag again.
