Hello, I'm Brian Tracy and today I want to talk to you about holding yourself accountable in your goal setting journey. To instill an accountability mindset, you must stop making excuses and blaming external forces and start making progress. I'm often asked Brian, how do I stay committed to my goals? What do I need to do to reach them? And I'll ask them, well, do you hold yourself accountable? Are you taking responsibility for your own choices, your own actions and reactions? Why is that important? Because holding yourself accountable allows you to understand that you are the only person truly responsible for your successes and for your failures. I'll show you how to take accountability and grow from your past mistakes. Together we can reach your goals, own your actions and reap the rewards. First, you must develop the right mindset in order to start to take accountability. Be honest with yourself and mindful about your goals. When we lack self awareness, we unfortunately we lack purpose. The more you can understand yourself, your strengths and weaknesses, the better strategies you can set in place to help you to reach your goals. To instill an accountability mindset, you must stop making excuses and blaming external forces for our outcomes and start making progress. While there are some things you cannot control, you can control your reactions and how to behave in certain situations. When faced with a challenge, you should always take a problem solving approach. Instead of pointing fingers, you'll find that you have a lot more control over the outcome of the situation when you take it upon yourself to fix it. Once your mind is in the right place, then you can plan and commit to your goals. When those goals are oriented, you have something tangible to make progress towards. My second tip is to set the right goals for yourself. When setting goals, consider ones that emphasize your strengths while also helping to improve on your weaknesses. Start with small goals to build confidence and motivate yourself. Have you always wanted to run? Write a book but don't know where to start? Start with a short term goal. Like a short story, you can develop your strength of creative writing while also improving on any weaknesses you may have, such as grammar for example. That small goal will allow you to be more confident over time and eventually help you to reach your long term goals. But in order to achieve these long term goals, you have to make them a priority and work towards them constantly. That's why it's so pivotal to figure out your purpose. W. Clement Stone once said, definiteness of purpose is the starting point of all achievement. Having a purpose helps you to stay motivated when in the pursuit of your goals. Don't let yourself get discouraged by missteps acknowledge your small wins or losses to grow and make progress. The next tip to hold yourself accountable is to join a mastermind group. While it's our job to hold ourselves accountable, we can always use a little help from our friends or colleagues. A mastermind group is a recurring meeting of the minds where you can go to utilize peer mentoring to help you to meet your goals. Through peer mentoring you can connect with like minded people to discuss ideas, problem solve and goal set. This group can also keep you accountable for your actions and support you along your goal setting journey. If you can't join a group, you can also find a trusted confident a single person like a friend, a family member or a mentor who knows how to hold you accountable. My fourth tip is to commit to a schedule. Routine is one of the most important factors of success. The difference between someone highly talented and someone highly successful is that the successful person has a routine that they follow regularly over and over. By creating a schedule, you'll be able to track your progress and ensure that you are taking steps towards your goal every single day. And my last accountability tip is for you to track your progress and track your success. Never forget about your small wins. By tracking your success you will build confidence and a sense of accomplishment. You'll see growth in your personal development. You'll feel motivated by your tangible achievements. You'll see how much closer you are to your milestones than you have ever been before. If you want to take action, take my 14 step goal setting challenge.
