How to Turn Failure Into Success | Brian Tracy

Brian Tracy’s YouTube talk "How to Turn Failure Into Success" presents five practical strategies to convert failures into successes: (1) stop blaming others and take ownership; (2) prioritize physical and mental health (e.g., 15 minutes of daily meditation, regular exercise, nutritious diet); (3) push beyond your comfort zone (use public speaking as an example); (4) treat failures as learning opportunities and maintain a growth mindset; and (5) set SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time‑bounded) with a concrete example: “write a 200‑page memoir in the next six months.” The video closes with calls to action (comments, subscribe, website).

Hello, I'm Brian Tracy and today I want to talk to you about failure. One of the most common characteristics of successful people is that they focus on their health. At some point or another, we will or already have failed at something. Failure is simply inevitable in life. But failure doesn't have to be bad. It can actually be a good sign. For example, if you're failing, that means you're pushing yourself out of your comfort zone and trying and learning new things. The key to dealing with failure is learning how to turn it into success. Today we're going to look at five things that you can do to move forward from failure and find success instead. The first way to turn failure into success is to stop blaming others. This is the worst thing that we can do in life, is blame other people for problems that are, many cases, inevitable. It's hard to admit defeat, but as humans, we don't like to admit that we were wrong or that something was our fault, even if it was. But in order to be successful, you must take ownership over your life and your decisions. Not everything will be your fault, but when something is your fault, it's critical that you acknowledge and own the failure. This will help you to learn and move forward as a better person and find success in the future. The second way to turn failure into success is to prioritize your physical and mental health. One of the most common characteristics of successful people is that they focus on their health. This is because it's hard to live out your dreams when your body is struggling to keep up with you or if your brain can't focus as well as it should. Prioritizing your physical and mental well being will put your body and mind in the right state to focus on everything it wants to take on to be successful. There are a few ways that you can choose to do this. Meditation may help to clear your mind. Just 15 minutes of meditation each morning will help you to prioritize the goals you want to achieve and to see success. Exercise is also important as physical exercise releases endorphins, helping you to think more positively. Consider prioritizing daily movement in your life, even if it's just a simple walk. Prioritizing your health doesn't stop there though. In addition to mental and physical activities to keep you sharp, a nutritious diet will also keep you healthy and increase the chances that you'll live longer and have more time to experience success. The next way to find success is to break out of your comfort zone. Success doesn't find you, you find success. And since success lives outside your comfort zone. That's where you need to go. If you fail inside of your comfort zone, success may be on the other side. So it's critical to push yourselves beyond what you already know. For example, maybe you've always wanted to become a public speaker, but you have stage fright. This is quite normal and natural. To find success and become a speaker, you need to find a way to break through the barrier of stage fright, get out of your comfort zone and speak in front of others. The fourth way to turn failures into success is to stay open to learning new things. Remember, at the beginning of this video I mentioned the key to dealing with failure is learning how to turn it into success. When you treat every failure as a learning opportunity, you will be able to change your mindset from I couldn't do it to I couldn't do it. Yet every time you fail, you learn something from that failure that you can take with you into your next attempt at accomplishing your goal. Remember that life is always moving forward, so keeping an open mind and being willing to learn will help you to keep up and to achieve your goals. The final thing to stay accountable and reach success is to use smart goals. S M A R T Perhaps you've heard of this acronym. The letters in the word SMART stand for specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time bounded. For instance, you may want to write a book, but simply saying my goal is to write a book isn't good enough. A smart goal might sound something like this. My goal is to write a 200 page memoir about my career in the next six months. When you set smart goals, you're more likely to achieve your goals and find success instead of putting off general goals for even longer. Procrastination, by the way, is the thief of time now. I'd love to hear from you. So my question today is what are you going to do to turn your next failure into a success? Leave a comment below and I'll be sure to follow up with you.
