Hello, I'm Brian Tracy and today I want to talk to you about my top success technique that will enhance your productivity and make you rich. Learn to prioritize what's most important and set aside those things that will never help you to reach your goals. One of the most popular topics I speak about in seminars and personal coaching is personal productivity. Successful people are always the most productive and prosperous and most positive in the room. And unlocking your inner achiever all boils down to developing an unshakable ability to be productive no matter what life throws your way. My friend, the great Zig Ziglar used to say that you don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great. And to build. On Zig's advice, I always add that to be great, you have to start and never stop. What I've discovered throughout my career is that productivity and prosperity all start and end with goal setting that changes lives. Now, if you've been watching me on YouTube for any period of time, you've probably heard me say that success is goals and everything else is simply commentary. Well, that's because when you set and manage your goals properly, being more productive comes as naturally as breathing in and breathing out. That's because you learn to prioritize what's most important and set aside those things that will never help you to reach your goals. Remember, I've said before that 50% of what you do in any working day is completely useless. It has no help at all to enabling you to achieve your goals. So today I want to share with you five of my favorite goal setting success techniques to help you get more done in less time. My first tip to enhance productivity is is to write down your goals. I say write it down. Write it down. Write it down. Every great achievement begins with a thought. But your goals should never just live in your head. Make the thoughts tangible by writing them down. This will give your goals clarity and help you begin to journey from wishing to succeeding. According to the best research, less than 3% of Americans have written goals and less than 1% review and rewrite their goals on a daily basis. And those people who set goals earn hundreds of thousands more during their lifetime than those who simply wish and dream of a better life. To get started. Find the method that works best for you to get your goals in written form. Make a list on paper, buy a planner, use a spreadsheet, write in a journal, download a template, or use a project management system. What matters most is that you start writing down your goals today. Not Tomorrow and never someday. Here's something important. I discovered that when you write down your goals, you're actually programming them into your subconscious mind. Your subconscious mind then takes those goals and turns them over to your superconscious mind, this great mental power that you have that works 24 hours a day and starts to attract into your life everything that you need to achieve the goal. And so therefore, it's so important. Write it down. Write it down. Write it down. Second, write your goals in the present tense. As you begin writing down your goals, it's essential that you use this simple trick to help propel you forward. Winston Churchill said that a pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity. An optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty. So be sure that you're giving yourself every opportunity to see the positive and unlock the power of positive thinking. By writing your goals in the present tense as if they were already a fact, as if they already existed, then your subconscious mind suffers. What is called a cognitive dissonance is the message that your subconscious mind is working on contradicts your reality. And your subconscious mind goes to work to attract your goal into your life. So instead of writing down I will get my big raise in December, you can develop the confidence and motivation you need by simply stating, in December, I get my big raise as though it were already a fact. This subtle change helps your brain to visualize your success and attracts into your life the ideas that you need to make them a reality. By writing your goals in the present tense, your subconscious mind takes over and you're motivated to achieve what you see. Your subconscious mind works 24 hours a day to attract you to your goal and attract the goal to you. Third, make sure that your goals are smart. S M A R T While it's good to set goals, not all are created equal. Poorly defined goals like I want to be rich may seem motivating in the beginning, but roadblocks can come up that make it impossible to overcome if your goals aren't properly defined. Instead, apply the smart strategy to setting effective goals. Smart goals are specific. Instead of saying, I want to earn more money, develop a smart goal that is clear and concise and specific. A specific goal would be I increase my income by $150,000. That way, if you start getting off track, you'll be able to make the necessary course corrections or adjustments to move closer to your well defined specific goal. Albert Einstein once said that your goal should be so simple and so clear that you could describe it to a six year old child. And the six year old child could describe it to another six year old child. Make your goal measurable. You should always be able to track your progress by setting up incremental milestones to check off on along the way. This will help you to stay on track. If you say I increase my income to $150,000 in three years, you'll be able to track your progress both against the amount that you want to earn and against how quickly you're moving towards your goal. Make it achievable SMA Achievable. Your goals should be challenging and require work to attain, but they should always be realistic. An unachievable goal will only frustrate you. When I learned about goal setting, I set down a goal to double my income within one year and what happens is I made no progress at all. And then I realized that doubling my income was too big for me to get my mind around. So I reduced it to increasing my income by 50% over the next 12 months. And the most amazing thing happened is I started to move toward the goal and the goal started to move toward me and I did achieve it. Then I raised my goal bar and I achieved that one and that one and that one. Becoming independently wealthy is an achievable goal, but a goal of I want to earn $10 million by the end of the year may not be realistic. But if you're just starting out at a new company, dream big and then do the research you need to set achievable goals relevant. Make sure that your goals align with your overall life plan. Set goals that will be worth your time, have positive benefits in your life, get you excited and up in the morning. Get you closer to what you want your life to look like. Don't simply set big goals that will impress others. If your goals aren't relevant to your true goals and desires in life, you'll never have the energy and endurance and motivation to achieve them in the long run. And finally, time bounded so they are smart, measurable, achievable and realistic. And then time bounded. Set a specific time for your goal completion. I will volunteer. More is a good start, but I volunteer at the animal shelter six times by June. Helps motivate you to reach your goal within a specific time frame. And the next tip is to check in regularly. One of the five principles of acclaimed researcher Edwin Locke's goal setting theory is the feedback principle. Being able to receive feedback on your goals is essential to your progress. Checking your goals regularly might also reveal that they are too easy or too challenging and need to be revised. So check in with your goals on a regular basis, even daily if necessary, or if possible, at the end of each day. Get into the habit of reviewing your goals and making your to do list for the next day. This habit will help you to stay focused on what is most important in helping you achieve your goals and create the life that you desire. My next success technique is for you to find an accountability partner. Achieving your goals is much easier when you have support, and an accountability partner can help you to stay on task. Put thought and care into who you will choose as an accountability partner. Often people do not reach goals or are afraid to even set them because of the criticism they're afraid they will receive from others. There will always be someone who will tell you that you'll fail, waste your time, or lose your money, so it's best to keep your goals to yourself at first. Except for a trusted individual, the best accountability partner is someone who is serious about achieving goals themselves and genuinely cares about you reaching your goals and becoming successful. Finally, put these success techniques into action.
