Brian Tracy recounts how growing up poor shaped his early imagination about travel, which led him to set off at age 20 to see the world. He states that he has traveled in 98 countries (his teenage goal had been 100), describes learning several languages (French, German, Swahili and parts of Greek, Chinese, Thai, Portuguese) to get by, and notes that travel became part of his family life. He indicates future videos will cover tips to improve travel.

I grew up in a poor family, and we never had very many opportunities. And our idea of traveling was for me to go to summer camp, which was within driving distance of the house. But I began to read books and novels and stories about people who traveled and the marvelous things that they'd done. And I began to think about traveling when I grew up. And what happens is when you take that information in when you're young, it starts to affect you. It starts to program you. So when I was 20 years old, I set off to see the world. And I've been around the world several times now. I've traveled in 98 countries. My goal when I was 18 years old was to travel in 100 countries, and I've now been to 98 countries. I learned how to speak French, German, Swahili, and parts of Greek, parts of Chinese, parts of Thai, and parts of Portuguese in order to get along in different countries. And the idea of traveling, to me has just been as natural as breathing in and breathing out. And when I got married, the first thing I did is I took my wife on a long trip to South America almost a month when my kids were born, we took them on trips as well. And now they've traveled all over the world. So traveling is sort of a part of my DNA, and it's really a wonderful thing. And there's lots of things you can do to make traveling even better, and we'll talk about those in subsequent videos.
