Brian Tracy on motivating people at work: give clear jobs and expectations, show genuine concern and friendship, set clear goals, and offer constant encouragement and feedback. The specifics matter more than the pep talk.
Hello, my name is Brian Tracy. I get a lot of questions from my friends on social media and I've decided to answer some of them as we go along. Here's a question we received recently.
How do you motivate people and inspire them to become the best of themselves?
One of the ways to motivate people is to give them very, very clear jobs to do. One of the greatest motivations of all is clear expectations on the part of the boss. People know exactly what you want them to do and when and to what standard. A second way of motivation is to express concern and consideration and courtesy and friendship to your staff so that people feel that you value them aside and apart from the work. Give people clear goals. Give them constant encouragement when they achieve their goals. Give them praise when they are successful and and give them feedback to help them to do better. The whole subject of motivating people in the world of work has been plowed like a field in thousands of books and articles, but those are the basic ones. Clarity of what to do and constant praise and encouragement when they do it. I hope that answer was helpful to you, and if it was, be sure to take action and take action now.
