Brian Tracy breaks down self-esteem into three parts: your ideal self, how you see yourself now, and how much you respect yourself. Higher self-esteem means more energy, better goal-setting, and stronger sales results. He recommends daily affirmations like "I like myself" to build it up.

People sometimes ask me what is the key to sales success? And what I found over the years, that there's one correlation, and that is self esteem. The more you like yourself and respect yourself, the more you consider yourself to be a valuable and important person. The more you sell, you see, because the more you like yourself, the more you like other people. The more you like other people, the more they like you back and want to buy from you and buy again and recommend you to their friends. Self esteem is like the energy source or the reactor core of your personality. It determines everything about you. Now, psychologists will tell you that your personality has three parts. Your self ideal, your self image, and your self esteem. Your self ideal are your goals, they're your dreams, your hopes, your visions, the person you want to be. They're the picture of the very best person you could be in the whole world. Your self image, on the other hand, is the way you see yourself and think about yourself in the present. What we know is that top people have very clear ideals, they have very clear goals, and they have very clear ideas of the kind of person that they would be if they were the best person possible. What we have found is your self image is the way you see yourself in the moment. It's your inner mirror, it's the way you think about yourself before you go into a sales situation. And what we have found is that the closer your self image, the way you're performing, is to your self ideal, the best person you can be. The more you like yourself and the more you like yourself, the more energy you have, the more you like yourself, the bigger goals you set, the more you like yourself, the more you persist in the face of adversity, the more you like yourself, the more you bounce back when you have negativity and disappointment in the sales day. And one of the easiest ways to keep your self esteem up is just go through the day saying, I like myself, I like myself, I like myself. W. Clement Stone, who started as a penniless orphan and built a fortune worth $800 million, used to say every day, 10, 20, 30, 50 times, I feel happy, I feel healthy, I feel terrific. So if you say I like myself and I feel happy, I feel healthy, I feel terrific, it raises your self esteem. As your self esteem goes up, you perform better. When you perform better, you move toward becoming the very best person you can be. And it immediately is reflected in your sales and your income. Sa.
