Use the ABCDE Method to Stay Organized

Brian Tracy teaches the ABCDE method for prioritizing your day. Label tasks A (very important), B (should do), C (nice to do), D (delegate), or E (eliminate), then tackle A1 first. Skip B tasks until all A tasks are done.

Hi everyone. Today I want to teach you my ABCDE method for getting the highest priority tasks done each and every day. This technique is so simple and effective that I personally use it all the time. Many people have told me that it changed their lives within a week. What you do is you start with a list of everything you have to do and you write it down. Then you place an A, B, C, D or E next to each item. Here's how to determine which category a task falls under. An ATASK is defined as something that is very important. This is something that will have serious positive or negative consequences if you do it or fail to do it. These are your frogs. These are your big ugly tasks that have to get done. If you have more than one A task, then prioritize these tasks by defining them as A one, A two, A three, and so on. A B task is a task that you should do, but it only has mild consequences for doing it or not doing it. Someone may be unhappy or inconvenienced if you don't complete this task, but it's not as important as an A task. The rule is that you should never do a B task when an A task is still undone. A C task is defined as something that would be nice to do, but for which there are no consequences at all. Like calling a friend or reading the newspaper or having some more coffee. It has no effect on your life at all whether you do it or not. A dtask is defined as something that you delegate to someone else. The rule is that you should delegate everything that someone else can do so that you can free up more time for the A tasks that only you can do. And an E task in the ABCDE formula is defined as something that you can eliminate altogether and it won't make any difference. So make your list. Define what category your tasks fit into. Determine your A1, A2, and A3 and begin work on your A1 immediately.
