Brian Tracy argues that learning is the only skill that matters in the information age. Listen to educational audio while driving to gain the equivalent of a degree, and attend business seminars for condensed, actionable knowledge.

Welcome to the information age. Peter Drucker said that the ability to learn and apply new skills is the only ability that will not become obsolete in the 21st century. Everything else you know about your business, all your other skills will become obsolete, except for reading and writing. And so you must be continually learning new things. And you will find that your very most successful business people are the ones who know the most things that can be helpful to their business. Many people go to school and think school is over. Thank heavens that's over. I never have to learn another thing as long as I live. But not you. As a successful entrepreneur, you must be continually feeding your mind with new ideas because you never know which idea will be the breakthrough idea. So you have to learn lots of ideas. And how do you do this? Well, there's two ways. The first way is listen to audio programs in your car. Many entrepreneurs don't have a great education. They didn't go to college or they didn't complete college. How would you like to get a PhD every single year? Well, the fact is that the average person who drives a car drives for 500 to 1,000 hours a year. 500 to 1,000 hours is three to six weeks of 40 hour. I'm sorry, it's three to six months of 40 hour weeks. It's the equivalent of full time university attendance. You can get the equivalent of a full time university degree just by listening to educational audio programs when you drive around. But here's the difference is that in university, most of the subjects you take are highly theoretical. When you listen to educational audio programs, everything you learn can be immediately applied to your business. And if it can't, you stop listening to it. So a good audio program contains the condensed results, the condensed ideas of 30 to 50 books. If you read 30 to 50 books and wrote a dissertation, do you know what you would get? You get a doctorate from any university in the world. So you can get the equivalent of a doctoral education every single year just by listening to audio programs as you drive around. Turn your car into a university on wheels. Turn your car into a mobile classroom. From now on, every single minute that you are moving, be learning new ideas that can help you to be more successful in your business and personal life. And the second key is to attend every seminar you can. A good business seminar that makes it to the market is usually based on thousands of hours of research and experience by the person giving the seminar. You can go to a seminar and in a few hours, for a few hundred dollars, you can save yourself hundreds, thousands of dollars and thousands of hours of hard work, expense and study in learning the material all by yourself. Remember, your job is not to read hundreds of books, which you never will anyway. Your job is to build your business, to sell stuff, to make a profit. And if you can get your information and knowledge on the cheap through audio learning and through taking seminars, you can become one of the most knowledgeable, one of the smartest, and one of the highest paid people in your field.
