4 of 30: A Life Motto

Brian Walch's life motto is "eat, drink, fly, right, run." Eating and drinking mean enjoying food and wine with people. Flying is his aviation hobby, "right" is his creative outlet, and running is his exercise. He uses it as a filter when deciding what to do.

I have a life motto. It is eat, drink, fly, right, Run. It actually used to be eat, drink, fly, run. And I added the right because I know I needed a little bit of creative outlet in my life motto. And that's kind of the reason I think it's important to have a motto. I developed this like many years ago back when I had very limited amount of time for personal endeavors. But I had a lot of things I wanted to do. And so I spent some time just thinking about what are the things that are important to me that make me fulfilled that I really do enjoy eating and drinking. Not just fulfilling the Maslow's hierarchy of needs, eating and drinking, but actually spending time with people, having a bottle of wine together and building relationships, cooking and enjoying good food. That was important to me. And all that entailed flying as a personal hobby and something that I love doing. And then running. Exercise is very important, and running was my preferred style of exercise. And I always wanted to make sure that that was part of what I was spending my time doing. And then as I said, I added, right. So these were the things that were fulfilling and important to me. So then when somebody like me who has a lot of interests and a lot of different things that I would love to do, new things would come along. I could very quickly just say, well, my personal motto is eat, drink, fly. Right, Run. How does that fit? And if that didn't fit into those things that I had spent time really evaluating and understanding, these are important, and these are what brings fulfillment, then it was an easy, no, I'm not going to pursue that. So maybe a life motto is something that will help you gain clarity on where you spend your free time. Eat, drink, fly. Right, Run. That's mine. Hope this helps. See you next time.
