Day 23 Podcasts

Brian Walch listens to just one podcast regularly, The Knowledge Project, and uses others strategically: for entertainment when he has downtime, or to learn fast when starting something new. He searches for specific episodes rather than subscribing broadly, avoiding information overload.
Chapters
All right, this is the third video and I guess what I'd call the resources trilogy. So we did books, we did people, and then this one's podcasts, and this one will be a little bit different because I actually don't listen to a ton of podcasts on a regular basis. There's really only one that I try to listen to religiously, which is the Knowledge Project by Farnum Street. And that one's great. Has a lot of excellent content, really in depth interviews, excellent guests. When I have time, I kind of take a just in time approach to podcasts. I have a really hard time finding ones that I'll stay consistent with. I tend to get kind of information overload. There's so many that look interesting and maybe I want to subscribe, but then I forget about them and there'll be periods of time where I just won't listen to podcasts for a while. So when I have some time, I just do kind of a search and look, find ones that are interesting at that time and listen to them. So one way I use podcasts is for entertainment, and I go and find ones when I've got the time that match my mood and I listen to them and enjoy them and don't worry about subscribing. The second way I use podcasts is when I'm coming into a new role or having to learn something. I'll go and do some research and listen to podcasts. And I find that I gain a lot of context for the subject area, the different audiences, the different people, you know, the people that are leaders in that particular space. And so podcasts are really beneficial when you're kind of learning either a new area or a new role and want to start getting some ideas of where's the industry heading, what are the trends? So those are two ways I use podcast. Entertainment and learning new things, learning new roles. And really the only podcast that I faithfully listen to is a knowledge project. I'd be curious to hear what podcasts you listen to and how you use podcasts. Thanks.
