Day 29 ILF Roles

Brian Walch breaks down life roles into primary (father, husband, friend), secondary (job titles, hobbies), and tertiary (soccer-mom, board member). Map each role on two axes: how important it is to you and whether it energizes or drains you. This shows where to spend your time.

We are at day four of the Integrated life Framework, and we're talking about roles today. So we started at the very center with the self, and then moving outward, we went to practices and then manifestations. And now talking about roles, which are simply all the different parts we play in life, you can probably think about a bunch of them. I think that this is rather obvious, but sometimes when things are obvious, they can also be overlooked. And so just spend a little bit of time thinking about all the different roles, and you may even want to try to classify them a little bit. So, you know, there's kind of the primary roles, which would be like, for me, father and son, husband, you know, friend. So there's some kind of these primary roles that I would list, and then there's a bunch of secondary roles. So things like my title at work, maybe ways that I identify myself, or, you know, you might have different ways you identify yourself, but like runner or if I'm a gardener, things that I. That I do. And there's probably a bunch of those. And then there's all the little ones that we do, the tertiary roles, which is like being a soccer mom or being a foodie, being maybe a part of a group like a church member or a board member, um, it's. It's probably limitless, but there are all these little small parts we play in life. So there's not strict rules on these, but it's a kind of a way to organize and just expand your thinking and, and identify what are all the different roles. And that actually can be a pretty exhaustive or pretty long list. But then as you, as you think about those, ask yourself two questions. So how important is that role? Obviously, my role as a husband is very important. My role as a foodie is maybe not that important. How important is that role? And then does it bring you energy or does it drain your energy? And using that information, you can actually make decisions about things you want to do in your life so that you're doing the things that are important and you're doing them with maximum energy. I actually sent out a practical technique to my email subscribers about how to. How to make decisions on the different roles. And I will try to get that updated on my website under the Simple Sundays list as soon as I have some time. So that's rules, real brief today. Tomorrow we'll talk about environment, which will be the last circle and is actually my 30th LinkedIn video. So stay tuned for that on our Friday and I'll see you then. Thanks.
