Brian Walch identifies three things managers need: validation that they're doing well, since leadership success is hard to measure; help managing their teams, which many feel unprepared for; and support for their own career growth, which they often neglect for the job.

There are three things that I think managers need support in. The first is validating their experience. When a manager gets into that role, they often won't feel successful because they don't know how to gauge their success. So they need validation that their experiences are successful and are going well. Two, they need support for helping their employees. They understand they've taken this big responsibility and they feel unequipped to deal with it, but they don't want to speak that out. Third, they need support for their own career development. They are so busy doing the work for the company that they can often push aside their own career aspirations. They need that support for them to be asked what is important and what do they want for their career.
