Donna Genie advises studio owners on turning September—a typically slow month—into a high-activity period by repurposing slow-moving inventory into discounted events. Recommended tactics include buy-one-get-a-friend-half-off promotions, bring-a-friend nights, lower-priced kids classes, and other targeted discounts to introduce new customers and stimulate reorders.

The September slump is coming up. We all know in studios that September tends to be the slowest month of the year. But I'm going to tell you how to make your September a whopper of a month. You've got some slow moving stock. I know you do. I've seen it. You're going to take that slow moving stock or maybe you want to stop doing something in your studio and get rid of mosaics or painting or canvas or some other perspective. We're going to take that and we're going to turn it into September events. I want you to do some discounted events. I say discounted, I don't mean cheat. I mean we're going to do a buy one, get a friend half off, bring a friend night, bring some new people into the studio. We're going to do some kids classes, get things in there a little lower price. But we are going to push out that slow moving inventory. We're going to get that stuff moving. And I'll tell you, I have seen it over and over again. A lot of times when you do these slow mover events, all of a sudden these slow movers are fast movers. I've seen a lot of people reorder that stuff because all of a sudden it's turned into a new thing.
