QuickBooks Failing You? Here’s Your Solution

Donna Genie (speaker) addresses common complaints about QuickBooks and urges listeners to stop dwelling on its flaws and switch to alternatives. She states her firm stopped using Intuit/QuickBooks about 13–14 years ago and now uses Xero (cloud-native, user-friendly, integrates with other software) as its primary bookkeeping platform; she also mentions FreshBooks as an invoicing-focused alternative worth considering.

I hear people complain all the time about QuickBooks. They use QuickBooks Desktop or they don't like QuickBooks Online. And I'll hear the same people complain for years about it. It costs too much. I don't like it. It doesn't work like I like it. It doesn't help me. Well, folks, let's get off the stool and let's talk about some alternatives to QuickBooks. If you followed me for any amount of time, you know that I Our firm does not use any intuit products or QuickBooks at all. We haven't for about 13, 14 years now. A long time ago, we switched over to use Xero for all of our clients and all of our work internally. We found that it was a software that offered the benefit and the ability to take care of all the bookkeeping. And it also played nice with others. It allowed you to integrate with other software without having kind of this slant to only using one company's products. We also find it simple for our users. It offers a friendly interface so that people aren't scared by all the options they have. It's very clean and straightforward. I use the example of a PC versus a Mac. Anybody who's been using a PC and takes a look at a Mac, you feel like it's really clean and smooth and streamlined. That's the feel of zero. It was originally designed in the cloud. There's never been a desktop version of Xero. So it's built to work the way we work today. One of the problems with QuickBooks Desktop is that many people aren't giving it up. They're holding on tight. But folks, it's a dinosaur. You've got to give it up and they're going to pry it out of your hands one of these days. They've already said they're not updating it, so you're just dealing with the old trash they have left over. And they've dedicated all their resources towards online. And that's a whole different problem. It offers a lot of other things and it's come a long way in the past 10 years, but it's still not my cup of tea and many people are mad about it. So another alternative, if you want to take a look at Xero, but Another alternative is FreshBooks. FreshBooks is a fairly new player. They started out just doing invoicing. So most of their system is focused on the invoicing and the payables part of accounting. Not necessarily what accountants use, but they're friendly for accountants too, and have an accountant's pro program just like 0quickbooks do. So take a look at those. Stop complaining about QuickBooks and make a move. Get off that system and onto something that works for you.
