We're in Alaska!
Oh, he's so close! Oh my gosh!
Yeah! Hallelujah!
What time is it now?
4:15 AM. We need this coffee.
Let's roll. We're just gonna have to go.
We're in Sitka, Alaska. Right now we're waiting in line to get on the shuttle bus. It'll take us downtown.
Good morning.
Today we're exploring the Sitka National Historical Park. We're on our way there and we already saw 2 bald eagles. We're out in the woods now. They said there's a bear warning. So if you see a bear, make lots of noise. I'm praying we don't though. It's so beautiful here. The trees are so tall, and we're on the hunt for some totem poles. Oh, here's a totem pole. We worked up an appetite on that walk, so now we're downtown grabbing a bite to eat. We're trying Russian dumplings for the first time. I guess Alaska was a Russian territory, so there's a lot of Russian influence here. We'll see how it tastes.
Ooh!
It's steaming hot. Wow, this is so interesting. It's like mini mandu. You could choose between potato and beef. I ordered the beef filling, and it's served with a slice of bread. It has curry powder, sriracha, and cilantro on top. I'm gonna burn my mouth. Mmm, that's really good. It's like a meatball inside. Tastes really nice with the curry powder. I love it. Russian dumplings get my stamp of approval. We are heading to a fish shack. It's a small restaurant operated by one man. There's no menu. You just show up there and he'll give you a fish skillet. And it's whatever fish he caught that morning. Doesn't get any fresher than that.
Hi.
Hi.
Yelloweye and lingcod.
You're triumphal. If we can't finish them, can we get like a to-go box kind of thing? We're gonna do one of each, please.
One of each?
Yep. Can you break $100?
Oh yeah.
Okay, thank you so much.
Alrighty.
I recommend you tear the bag down, then it's like a little placemat, and if If you go corn on the cob, they'll fall into it. This one's the ribeye of the sea. This one's the croissant of the sea.
Okay.
This one is not fishier. This one is oilier. And then that's where people love loading that taste up with malt vinegar, although there is malt vinegar in the secret sauce.
Alrighty, thank you.
Looks good.
You guys on a love boat?
Not quite. We're with 13 of my family members. We have 4 generations on the boat. We came from South Korea. You know Jeju?
See, I want to go there bad because I want to learn how to make the abalone porridge.
Oh yeah.
All right.
That is so good. Oh my gosh, it melts in your mouth.
Wow.
Did you try with the salt though? I didn't put anything on it. I dug right in. Oh my God.
Which one do you like more?
Oh, I knew you were gonna ask that.
I kind of like I like the texture of this one.
Of the ling?
Yeah.
3 out of 10.
It's good. All right, you gotta get in on this.
God, I gotta say, this is the best fish I've ever had.
Really?
Yes.
Hey, thanks, bro. That place was kind of a hidden gem. I definitely think it's my highlight of Sitka. Scotty was such a cool guy. We're heading into a local dive bar. We're gonna put our dollar bill on the wall here. Wow, it just feels wrong to write on a dollar bill like this. Kelly Sim. Here we say quack quack knock back. Quack quack knock 'em back.
Cheers!
I left my mark in Sitka. Hello, there are 2 seats left still for the seaplane. We'll take them. Just help me with the name sign, the room number. Okay. We're going on a seaplane tomorrow in Juneau. We got the last 2 seats. It's our lucky night.
We're floating on the water.
Welcome back, Gina. I really hope you enjoyed it.
Thank you, John. Thank you. We just got off the seaplane. It was such an incredible experience flying over the ice fields and the glaciers. It looked unreal. Now we're walking downtown. We might grab a cup of coffee, meet up with my family, and we want to eat Some king crab. Korean corn dogs at the donut shop in Alaska. What?
The drip house brew or Americano?
Drip house brew, please. And room for cream? No, that's all right.
Anything else?
Um, I think we're gonna do a Choco Pebbles donut, please. Thank you so much. We're satisfying our sweet tooth. We got a chocolate donut and some coffee. It's a good rainy day treat, and I heard that this donut shop is pretty popular in town. That's rich. I like how it's crunchy on top though with the cereal. Oh my gosh, it's dripping!
Help!
Is it good? She always shops the sales. How can you not? She loves a good bargain.
One more purchase. This is for Grandpa, 3rd one in this store.
Hello, can we please do one Crab Shack Combo with the red and another one with the golden, and then we're also going to do 3 Alaskan Summers? I think that's it.
$219.68.
Okay, thanks. Hi, do I have to show you this for the beers or?
No, you're gonna go.
Okay, good. Thank you. I didn't see your ID though. Oh, oh, thank you. I'm getting carded.
Oh, okay.
Thank you. Thank you. You heard that, right? That's a big old crab leg.
They are.
You use these to crack them.
Okay, so you crack it at the joint, and then you take this and you just kind of cut—
Work your way down?
Cut through it, and then you kind of pull it apart.
Let's see.
Wow.
There's all the meat.
Oh my gosh.
Okay.
Mmm.
Maybe I do like crab. It just has to be the super expensive kind.
Whoa!
This is crazy. Look at all that crab meat.
Whoa!
There you go. I heard this place was kind of a tourist trap, but I think it's really good.
I do too.
Even though it's pricey, still good.
Yummy.
I would like to buy the sauce that was served with our— yes. Is that it? Yes. And I want 2 of these. Thank you.
Yay!
It was amazing.
We're going to the whale watching spot to board another boat there. It's pouring out, so I'm putting on a poncho. It rains everywhere we go without fail. We made it on the boat. Now let's go see some whales.
Welcome aboard, everybody. This over here is our captain. My name is going to be Sebastian. I'll be your deckhand and naturalist for today. If you don't know what you're looking for, just kind of play a game of spot the difference. Use the whites of your eyes in order to kind of catch movement out there. So if you see something, try to focus in on that. From there, let me know what you see, and then we can talk about it.
Yeah, we're picking up speed. Pedal to the metal. I'm trying to watch closely. I don't want to miss one. He told us all to keep an eye out for the whales. We spotted an orca. We can see its fin. Whoa, 4 of them, 5.
Oh! Wow!
It's frigid out here. I'm like shivering. Oh, oh, he's so close! Oh my gosh, he's going for a little bit of it.
Yeah, we're gonna get it! Yes!
Yep.
Oh, oh, that's a sea lion behind him popping his head up. He's cuddling.
All right, thanks Grandma, Grandpa!
Do you think you could help us Can we please take a group picture too?
Oh, absolutely.
Thank you.
2, 3, we're in Alaska! Woo!
Huh. No, that's funny.
Yeah, Callie, I have right now probably 10 purses listed on Marketplace.
Can you hand me my bag? This purse?
Ta-da!
Kelly, don't cry.
It's just me. Oh my God, God, now you make me cry.
Why do you do that?
Kelly therapy.
I love it, love it, love it. Good.
Don't just be posting that one in Marketplace.
It won't be. It will not be.
Today we're walking around Creek Street, one of the most famous spots in Ketchikan. We came here hoping to see the salmon swimming through the creek, but on our way there we got a huge surprise. We looked under the stairs and saw a massive black bear. It was so close, and I definitely wasn't expecting to see one right in town.
I was kind of freaked out, actually. People were all around him taking pictures, but he didn't budge. Very chill. I guess there's a lot of salmon in this creek here. That's probably why the bear is close by. He probably comes down and eats the salmon. Hi, do you have any tickets available for the 9 o'clock show? Perfect, thank you so much.
Today's show is a competition, ladies and gentlemen, and your seats determine who you're cheering for. Everybody on this side, you all are cheering for Spruce Mill, the USA home team. Make some noise, Spruce Mill! Now that we know who we're cheering for.
All right, hot dog delivery. Had to get a glizzy. It's basically chopped up pickles. Pretty good. It's a classic concession stand food. Don't want to be late for our last shuttle. We made it just in time.
Alaska is largest state. There are 2,670 registered Alaska is the largest desert island here in Alaska. Alaska has largest seaplane fleet. Alaska has more earthquakes, more volcanoes than rest of the United States. Alaska supplies 60% of the seafood for United States, while seafood farming is not allowed here in Alaska.
It's like a warehouse It's full of souvenirs. It's perfect for us because we're buying our last-minute gifts. I see a big clearance sign over there. Let's head that way. What are you looking for? I'm buying a sticker for my dad and stepmom. It sounds like a silly gift, but their refrigerator is full of stickers. This one's kind of cool with the bears. Oh, this one's good. That's pretty nice. At the count of three, say one or two. We're gonna vote for which sticker to buy. One, two, three, two. All right, we have a winner. Milk chocolate covered peanut butter filled pretzels with toasted coconut. Wow, that sounds like my jam. How much are these? Twenty bucks. What a ripoff! I don't know if they're into Legos, but I think Legos are cool. Look at the dog sleds! How much is this?
15.
This is cheaper than the chocolate. I think I found the perfect gift for my dad. A carved slingshot. This looks like a total dude thing, but I have to remove the sticker before I give it to him because it has a Made in China sticker. Alrighty, see ya! This trip flew by. Alaska is definitely a unique and amazing place to visit, so if you ever get the chance to come here, I highly recommend it. I hope you enjoyed exploring it a bit with me, and I'll see you next time.
Bye!
