This is Ryan Daniel Moran with another episode of Freedom Fast Lane. Hey, before we kick things off, I just want to say thank you. Thank you. Thank you to all of you who went over to itunes and subscribed and left reviews. We jumped to number one in marketing and number three in business and our still way high up on the charts and showing up in what's hot sections on itunes. So thank you for showing your support for Freedom Fastlane. Also give away some Kindle fires to random subscribers. And I just again want to say thank you for helping me make this show a success. And I could still use your support if you go over to Freedom Fastlane and hit the subscribe button or if you just go to itunes and subscribe to Freedom Fastlane, it'll help us rank higher in the itunes store. And that's what all this is about. So thank you so much for those of you who contributed to not really a launch party, but the big push to get higher up in the itunes store. I really appreciate it. So today I want to talk about Amazon selling in 2015 and I am going to attempt to make this the last podcast for a while about Amazon specifically because those of you who aren't Amazon entrepreneurs are probably getting tired of me, of hearing me talk about it. But you know, there's. We're reopening the tribe now and it's going to be open for a couple of weeks. You can get details over@freedomfastlane.com and the tribe is my mastermind group that I mentor people through their first Amazon business. There's actually two parts to the tribe and you'll see why things are changing here. This is the last time we're doing the tribe to the public. The way that it works is, is I put together the tribe as a mentoring group to go through my favorite Amazon selling course, which is called Amazing Selling Machine. It's open now and you can buy it. And if you use my affiliate link to buy it, then you get my free mentoring while you're going through the course so you can ask me questions and you can have a multimillion dollar mentor walking you through the process. And it's really, really hard to fail when you have a multimillion dollar mentor walking you through it. We have unbelievable case studies that came from that group. There's Tina, who hadn't had a business before and now does $30,000 a month. Joe, who was an experienced entrepreneur but looking to make a change, did a lot of things wrong, but still is well past the $100,000 a month, Mark. And he did it in like six months. There's Zach, who he was doing okay. He's actually stuck in a business he didn't like at all. He started an Amazon business, started doing okay, sat down with me, I created a plan for him to take it to the next level. And he went from like $25,000 a month to $100,000 a month. There's people like Brian who are just incredible success stories, who had never had a business, was an accountant for years, had a business that's done as much as $700,000 a month. The stories are just, are, they're wacky that come out of the tri because there's something special that happens when you combine a good strategy, a good course, a good group of people, and a really successful mentor walking you through the process. So we get on Google Hangouts every week. We go through the course material together, we answer questions together, and you have access to, to a bunch of other people who have gone before you. There is no better incentive, there is no better way to ensure your success in a business like this. So this is my long. This is probably the longest pitch I've ever done on a podcast, but I'll wrap it up. So that's the tribe. That's what the tribe is and what it started as. And this is the last time we're doing it publicly. And you can find out information and you can, if you, if you buy Amazing selling machine through my Link, which is freedomfastlane.com ASM if you buy it when it goes live, you get the mentoring with me for free. Now it's the last time that we're doing it publicly. At least that's my plan for it to be the last time. Why is it the last time? The reason it's the last time is because the tribe is going to be changing from a mastermind of a lot of people to a mastermind of a small group, group of really successful Amazon entrepreneurs. And this big group that we've been doing has all been to create a bunch of really awesome success stories so that I can sell a very expensive mastermind. And it's a mastermind that people have already paid to be in. And we're starting to bring people who have been successful in the big group into the small, intimate group. Because I want to have a group that's dedicated to going through.
Not just to the $100,000 a month level, but the million dollar a month level and beyond. That's the type of businesses that I'm interested in. Building and helping people build. But currently the tribe consists of a large group of people who are just starting. So this is your last time to jump into the big group, get your business started, get it to that 50 or $100,000 a month level, then come over, then you can pay me, then you can join, then you the big group or the small, the small intimate group of big businesses where we're really helping each other and mentoring not just to the six figure level, but the seven and eight figure level. There's my long play. There's my secret plan to take over the world. Now if you, if you think you qualify for that intimate group, if you're at the $50,000 a month level or beyond, you can apply into the mastermind www.tribeof25.com the numbers25tribe of25.com you have to apply. We'll get on the phone, we'll see if it's a fit and then you can, well, maybe you can come to, to our meetings every quarter. Okay. So I say all this because the tribe's open now. You can get an info@freedomfastlane.com or if you just want to go buy Amazing Selling Machine through my link, it's www.freedom freedomfastlane.com asm. Now, if you're already an ASM member, how can you get in? Well, I've had some mixed success with this. The tribe really exists to mentor new people through Amazing Selling Machine and through building their business. But there's a lot of people message me and say, hey, I'm already a member. Can we work something out? And I've done this for a few people. So if you are an ASM member, go to Facebook, go to facebook.com Ryandaniel Moran send me a message and we'll see if we can work something out. Alright, so I want to go over a little bit about where the market on Amazon is changing so that those of you who are thinking about getting into this business know what to expect. And if you've listened to my previous podcast, you know that I think that the, the last frontier is now like the last frontier on Amazon anyway or physical products business is right now. And that's gonna close in September of 2015. And what is it gonna look like to build a business right now and over the next coming months before September of 2015? Well, there's a few things that you can take to take to mind that will set you apart from everybody else who's rushing into this business. So you don't, you're not competing with a bunch of people. And most of the people getting into this business are thinking about what product can I white label? Which means that you find something that's already being sold, you sell it better, you make money. That still works. It works just fine. But the increase of competition is making it more difficult. Where there are opportunities, is taking things that are already selling, improving them just a little bit, and then selling the heck out of them. Now, what I tend to do is I will start off white labeling something because it's cheaper to white label something than it is to get a custom version of something. So I will go to my supplier, see what they have that's selling well, or look on Amazon to see what's selling really well, then go over to the supplier, see what they have, and then I will sell that for a little bit. And once it is selling even a little, then I'll go back and I'll make some changes to the product to make it a lot better. I'll do this based on customer feedback. I'll do this based on polls that I'll do to my audience. And I just. I work to find out, okay, how can we now make this the best product possible versus how can I sell the same thing that everybody else and their mother is selling? Now, if you look at Amazon and the top sellers, this is already starting to happen. If you look at mass markets where people are just gushing into the market to sell something, there's usually like 10 people doing a ton and then a hundred people doing okay, and then a thousand people going, how come I can't get a piece of this pie? The reason why the thousand people can't get a piece of that pie is because they're selling the same stuff everybody else is selling. Because you can only market a piece of poop so many ways.
If you put a change on the product, you really start to stand out. Now, this can be as simple as the quantity. It can be as simple as the potency. If it's something like a consumable, it can be as simple. Sometimes it can just be the quality, but something's different, something's improved upon. Our yoga mats are a different type of material. We emphasize environmentally friendly. We emphasize that very heavily in our marketing. That's our differentiating factor. The material is a little different. The environmental friendliness is pushed heavily.
That is why we're able to stand out in the market. But most people enter competitive markets just trying to sell what everybody else sells. So if you just add a little spin.
You'Ll be way, way ahead of everybody else. Now, one of the ways you can do this, and this is kind of another way to really succeed in Amazon in 2015, is focusing on ridiculous quality and going high end. If there's people in your market that are selling products for 25, 26, $27, most people will come in and they will say, I want to be competitive with these prices. But what's interesting sometimes is to come out with a product when everybody else is selling for 25, 26, 27. If you come out with a product for 80.
And it's a much better product.
Sometimes you get some very, very interesting results. My main business right now, my men's fitness company, one of our main competitors, we don't even consider them a competitor because they don't seem to take away from our business. We're the number one product in our market, far and away number one.
And there's this product. We're friends with them, we know them personally, we've done a little bit of business together. They sell a competing product, even though it doesn't really hurt our volume. They're. They're basic. They're really a competitor. Their price is twice our price. Now. We do a whole lot more volume than them, but they get a lot of volume just because they're more expensive. We get more, but they still get a lot.
Because they're priced so much higher than us. And since they're priced higher than us, I will confess, their images are a little bit better. They look a little bit more elegant. Our product is actually better.
It's actually better. But they have it positioned as a premium product, which allows them to basically own the expensive part of the market, which is almost like its own market, because there's people who want to spend the most amount. So that's the second way that you can kind of differentiate yourself on Amazon.
First is do something a little bit different than everybody else is doing. The second position. Consider positioning yourself.
As the premium person in your marketplace.
There's this push right now that everybody thinks that Amazon is a race to the bottom, to the cheapest price. I don't think it has to be that way. I actually think. Look, marketing has always been about zigging when everybody else zags. It's always been about that if you want to set yourself apart in business, you go where everyone is not and people tend to follow. I mean, was it better to be on Amazon now or three years ago? There's a. There's more customers now, but there was also zero competition three years ago and everyone followed when the volume got really high. Was it better to be in podcasting two years ago or today? Two years ago, you could get anything ranked on itunes. Freedom Fast Lane would be a front page show with this size. With as big of an audience as we have now, we're, you know, we're number three in business at its peak. So if you zig when everybody else zags, you always stay ahead, assuming that you're doing a good job, you have a quality product and your marketing is good.
So if you do these things, if you run away from the crowd, you position yourself to have a business that lasts for years and not one that gets creamed in September of 2015.
And the last way that you can really, really succeed on Amazon is to think of your backend. And what I mean is to think about how you can take customers that you get on Amazon and create a backend, which means a way to market to those customers that doesn't just sell Amazon products. If you can go into a market that is large enough where if you get a customer lead and you sell them other products that are much more expensive. For example, if you were in the weight loss market, you sold weight loss supplements, as a lot of people do, and you had a way to follow up with your customers and sell them weight loss coaching or in person boot camps or.
Customized meal plans.
That is something you could charge a high premium for. And no one is doing that. In fact, all of your money is going to come from that back end. So you can invest your entire marketing budget on acquiring new customers, which you just destroy the competition at that point because Amazon is becoming more competitive. It will become a place where the person who can spend the most wins and the person who spends the most is going to be the person with the best back end. So if you market other products on the back end of your customer acquisition, you will win the game of Amazon because you'll have more money to invest acquiring front end customers. And if you're getting lots of sales in the front end, you win the Amazon algorithm, which means you get lots of natural, organic sales as well. That is where it's going now in order to succeed. If you're just getting into this business now, if you're just getting into Amazon now, then focus on good quality products in large markets that you can improve a little bit upon and position as a quality product more expensive than average. We could think about your back end later when you're in the tribe, we can sit down and talk about your back end. You can have $100,000 a month business just selling products on Amazon.com we'll talk about blowing it up into a million dollar a month business with a really successful back end once we're sitting down in person sometime. But for you just getting into this business, I want you to keep in mind that the time frame to success in this business is about a year. So if you're getting into a business like this or really any business with the intention of being successful in three months.
You'Re toast from the beginning because there really is.
About a year time frame where you have to be invested in this business before you start pulling cash out at least eight months. And the costs, the cost can be anywhere from $1,000 to $5,000 depending on how aggressive you want to be. When I started I was being super conservative. I had just, you know, shut down my last business so I was being a little bit conservative. Too conservative really. I white labeled a product, just took what the manufacturer gave me, bought a hundred units at six bucks a piece. So it was six hundred bucks. Ran a couple ads to it. So I probably spent 8, 800 to $1,000. My first, my first go. I wish I had been more aggressive and I would have been successful a lot more, a lot faster. But those are your costs. You're looking at about a thousand to $5,000 to get up and going into this business.
And it's about three months before you're really seeing consistent success come in. If you do things right at about the three month mark, you're like, hey, alright, this is really going somewhere. I can really grow this now. I know all this really doesn't sound exciting. I'm just trying to frame your expectations.
But I want you to know what you're getting into. I'm doing a little bit of. It's not really doom and gloom. I mean when I, when I say that there's a consolidation coming and when I say that it takes a few thousand dollars in a year to really be successful in this business. I'm not trying to scare you. I mean this is a fantastic business. It's the best business I've ever been in. I make at least two times more money and work about half the time that I did at the peak of my other businesses. My life is so much better as a result of this business model and it continues to grow. I'm on pace right now to have a record month again. It's becoming commonplace record months in this business and we just continue to grow and grow and grow and grow. So I'm very high on this business model and that's why I'm encouraging you. If you're going to get into this business, it's time to get in. Now again, there's a few changes you can make compared to Amazon a year and a half, two years ago that will set you apart in this market. And they're making your product a little bit different than what everybody else is doing. Positioning yourself as a high quality product, pricing wise and to start thinking about going into markets where you can establish a back end and you can sell lots of products in. By the way, one of the common threads among people that I see who are really successful is that they're in markets where they can sell multiple products, not products where they just have one product. They put it on Amazon. I know so many. Actually, let me address this. A lot of people will ask, who are the people that fail? It's a fantastic question. The people who fail are the people who looked for a product and not a business. People who sell like really weird products. And they say, well, it met all the criteria that I thought I was looking for on a product. But it wasn't the foundation of a business. You didn't have a target demographic. You weren't going after building an audience. You were going after a hole in the market that you were trying to fill. The really successful people are the ones who can immediately identify three to five products that they'd like to sell in this same market. And they start with.
Say, roll out one, get it successful, roll out two, the company grows, roll out three. And now the company is exploding. Those are the people who are really, really successful. Those are the people who are doing $100,000 a month and beyond. People who can roll out a suite of products, not people who are going after one product. It's a major, major difference. So these are the things you need to be thinking about as you're going into this business. But it's the best business I've ever been in. It's the most fun business I've ever been, the most profitable, and I work the least amount of time on this type of a business. And if you want in on the last time I'm doing the Tribe publicly, then this is your time to step up and decide to make a change in your life.
