Live podcast session (recorded March 17, 2020) by Ryan of Capitalism.com in the 1% Facebook group offering guidance for entrepreneurs facing COVID-19 disruption. Core advice: control your focus and energy (turn off news/TV), set small actionable goals (health, customer outreach, fulfillment), be curious and create value, and use community resources to pivot (3PL, direct fulfillment, creative packaging). The episode mixes motivational framing (ownership, service, leadership) with practical business ideas and promotes a YouTube video and a 10-day course called The Other Half.

Chapters
Right now, the world needs ownership, creation and service more than any time in our lives. Ownership of our own mental state, of our own physiology, of our own focus.
Because sometimes that is the only thing that you can control.
No matter what happens, you are in control of your own focus, if nothing else. And most of us are choosing to spend it watching TV at a time when all of us know what that does to our mental health. It takes one free person to create change. This is the show for them. We are the creators of the free world. This is capitalism.com and we are the 1%.
Hey, capitalists. Ryan just went live today, Tuesday, March 17, 2020, in the 1% Facebook group to talk about what else? I mean, the coronavirus, how this pandemic will affect you, your family, your business, and the steps you can take to remain calm and move forward. This group is all about community, about social media, supporting each other, taking ownership of problems and being of service. So if you want to join us inside, visit capitalism.com 1. Let's go.
Hey, capitalists. Listen, I just wanted to hang out with y' all for a little bit. I just wanted to spend some time with you and talk a little bit about what's going on and to provide some certainty for you during some chaotic times. I know right now that if you're a normal entrepreneur, you're dealing with fears of what does this mean for my business, of what does this mean for my retirement? What does this mean for my investments? What does this mean for the path I thought I was on? What about the progress that I thought that I was making? I know that it's really easy right now to feel that way and to feel really uncertain. And so the reason I'm going live with you today inside the group is just to provide some certainty for you. We're going to talk about some good news, we're going to talk about some opportunities, but most importantly, we're going to talk about your response to this and how your response to this is going to determine how you grow or retreat during this time. If you're watching live, say hey in the comments. Hey, Phil. Hey, Jason. Hey, Torin. Good to see you guys. So listen, the reason we feel anxious, the reason we feel anxiety, the reason you feel uncertainty is because we don't know what to predict. We don't know what's going to happen. And so as a result, we feel this wobble. It's looking for a home. It's energy looking for a home. Please remember this anxiety is energy looking for a home. Right now, we've had a lot of energy moving forward. We've had a great economy, a great stock market, and we've had so much good stuff that we've had to create anxious environments for ourselves by arguing about dumb shit on social media, by arguing about ridiculous things the President says, by arguing about meaningless shit that didn't matter. That's how much energy there was. And you know where it's going now. It's looking for a home because we feel uncertain. So the appropriate response is for you to give it a home. Right now. In our desire for certainty, in our quest to find leadership, we're all watching the news.
Don't do that. All that is meant to do is to get your energy riled up again so that it has to find a home. Your job is to give it a proper home. You know how you can do this? Here's how you can do this. You can do this by coming up with small goals, by coming up with some small thing to focus on, some little win that you can give yourself. You know what that might look like? It might look like, you know, I'm just going to use these next two weeks to go all in on my customers, to just listen to them, to find out what they need to find out. Can my business even be of value in a way that I don't see it right now? Curiosity is a lot better of a feeling than anxiety. Curiosity has more certainty to it than does anxiety. You know how else you can do it? You can do it in your personal life by saying things like, you know, I'm gonna put all my energy into getting fit these next four weeks. That's what I've decided to do. I've decided to lose the extra. You can't see my pinch, but the 10 pounds that's been lingering around since my last bulk, that's how I'm gonna spend these last. These next couple weeks. Because I am certain that I can do that. I am certain that I can follow a routine that gives me a specific outcome and that progress is possible no matter what the economy is doing, no matter what the media is doing, no matter what the stock market is doing.
So because of that, that gives me certainty that I can move forward, that I can use as leverage. So your job right now, first of all, first of all, for certainty, in times of chaos, is to control where your energy goes. And that is dictated by one thing, and it's your focus.
That's it. That is the only thing you got in order to direct your energy, your focus. We are, as a Community focused on one thing and it's the uncertainty caused by this crisis. Your job as a leader, as a capitalist, as a founder, is to put your energy towards creating change. You start by doing that within yourself. How will I use this to create change within myself? My advice is to just pick something small. I'm going to be podcasting a lot, I'm going to be creating a lot of content, and I'm going to be working out and eating clean for no other reason than for my own mental health. That gives me something to focus on that is of value to someone else. And you know what that does? That progress drives out fear. That progress creates momentum. That gives you something to pull out of this, because sitting around watching bad news will do the opposite. And then second, it is getting curious and creating from that place of certainty when there is more demand for it than ever. The world needs.
That type of certainty in its leadership and it's begging for it. And you have that opportunity to be that for your customers, for your clients and for your followers right now. If you are willing to buck the trend. The trend being fear, uncertainty, scarcity. If you can buck that trend by maintaining a focus of opportunity and optimism, positivity and service, you will come out on top.
This will be when energy that is looking for a home in billions of people right now and it flows to you and your business.
Are you willing to buck the trend? Are you willing to take a stand? Are you willing to be positive? Are you willing to be optimistic? Are you willing to be curious? Are you willing to be giving? Are you willing to be giving when you're feeling scared about your business? Are you willing to create when you feel scarce? Are you willing to take ownership when everybody else wants someone else to take ownership? Because if you do.
You emerge as a leader. Because if you do, the world opens up for you. Because there is so much pent up, nervous, scared energy that wants to go somewhere.
Give it that chance.
Give it that opportunity to come to you. Because you can.
Because you create.
Right now, the world needs ownership, creation and service more than any time in our lives.
Ownership of our own mental state, of our own physiology, of our own focus.
Because sometimes that is the only thing that you can control.
No matter what happens, you are in control of your own focus, if nothing else.
And most of us are choosing to spend it watching TV at a time when all of us know.
What that does to our mental health.
We fell for it. And I don't mean fell for lies about a conspiracy theory that I don't believe. In, I mean, falling.
For the trick of losing our focus.
It's normal.
It happens.
But it's the only thing you control, is the only thing that gives you a sense of certainty.
What can you be certain about?
What can you find.
Certainty in?
Can you find certainty in your faith?
Can you find certainty in your routine? Can you find certainty in one person around you?
Because if you can, you can create it for someone else.
And if you create it for someone else, they are with you forever.
If you find. When you find that certainty.
When you take ownership of your own focus.
And you feel that sense of certainty, that's when you can create again. And creating is the way that we serve. Creating is the way.
That we are in the greatest service to our fellow man.
Coronavirus. Or just a chip that went down the wrong path.
That is your job right now.
Jason. Put in the comments. Your competitors are not doing this. You're right.
This. There has never been a better opportunity to take market share. Never. You know all that competition that has been nipping at your ass for the last three years? They're scared.
And the marketplace is waiting for you to be certain.
About anything.
This is when you step up.
This is how capitalists create change.
Now is the time. If you're watching tv, turn it off.
If you're listening to anything that does not feed you or fuel you right now, turn it the fuck off.
You've had enough.
It's doing nothing. It's helping nothing. It's changing nothing. Your job is to maintain your focus. Focus on what? Focus on the how. No, listen to me. You know what's gonna drive you even crazier than the news? Trying to figure out how you're going to get through this.
Trying to figure out the steps you're gonna take.
To pull yourself out of this.
Because that is putting the cart before the horse. The only time that you've got a plan that makes any sense is when you feel safe and certain again.
So you know what the dumbest thing to do in the world is? Read all about the stock market and what's crumbling and who's sick and how many people are dead today. And then going, I need a plan.
Because you will only create a scared plan.
You will only create what will make it worse.
Instead, you do.
It's me turning off the tv.
And you get real quiet.
And you say.
What do I have right now?
Not, what did I have a week ago when the stock market was higher?
That doesn't do anything.
You say.
What do I have right now?
Do I have food? In the fridge? Yes.
Do I have someone to love? Yes. Maybe not in my house, but do I have someone to love?
What else do I have?
Do I have opportunity? Probably somewhere. I'm not sure where, but maybe.
Do I have my breath? Yes.
Do I have my focus? Yes. What can I do with that? Focus on what I have right now.
Do I have a bed? Yes. Do I have running water? Yes.
That's a good start.
What do I have right now?
What can I.
Focus on right now? I can focus on those things I have.
I can focus on the fact that there's opportunity even though I don't know where it is.
I can focus on the fact that I know that there are people I know that there are circumstances in which other leaders, other people have created and come out of this in times of worse chaos than this is, even though they didn't know how they were going to get through it. I can focus on the fact that there are people who have come before me who have done good things, created good things, come out on top, created new things, who have created opportunity out of times of worse chaos than this. I know that I can focus on that. I know that I can even think about the fact that maybe if I get into a rhythm of looking for the opportunity that maybe I will find it. And I don't know what that is right now, but maybe I can focus on the even hope that I have that I can pull out of this. Maybe I can just think about the fact that there's some creative way that I'm going to pull out of this. Even though I can't see what it is. There's something that I can't see right now that is going to create more opportunities, more influence, more positivity for myself and my family and the type of freedom and the type of life that I want to have that I can't see right now. So I can get excited about the thing that I can't see right now that is going to move into my existence. I can focus on that.
Now.
Some will say, ah, but you are deluding yourself. You're putting your head in the sand. Well, I'll tell you what is also putting your head in the sand. Watching TV and being buried by bad news and listening to all the negativity going on that is also putting your head in the sand. What sand do you want to live in, boys and girls?
What sand would you like?
You want the sand that gives you a shot.
Or the sand that feels like shit?
Which one would you like?
Because you can have either one. Depending on your focus.
You can focus on whichever one you want.
And guess what? They're both true. It's just a matter of which one do you want? If I can get on that rampage of just thinking about the opportunity that I can't see right now and being excited about this, the fact that there's some opportunity I can't see right now that is going to allow me to pull through this. And if that's all I think about and if ever I get distracted, I can come back to that thought. Can I journal about that? Can I start asking my customers about it? Can I start writing to mentors? Listen to me. Remember the exercise inside the other half. It's in your members area. Go watch lessons 1, 2 and 3 and the 1%. Do this exercise, make a list of 10 people in your life that you want to get close to and you write to them and said, I've decided to be opportunistic right now. I've decided to take the setbacks that are coming my way and to create a new reality out of it. And I just want you to know that you're one of the people that inspires me to even think about new opportunity, who even thinks about creating a new reality for myself. You're the type of person that inspires me to be better, who tells me that there is something more, that tells me that there is another way, that tells me that there is opportunity even in the midst of chaos. I know I can't hug you in person right now, but I just wanted to say thank you. Send that to them and watch how fast your opportunities open up. Watch how fast your life and your business changes when you're the one person with a rational head on your shoulders saying that you're going to turn crisis into opportunity.
You can't do that when you're scared.
You can't do that when you're focused on the shitty sand.
You can only do that when you're certain.
When you're focused on creating something new.
What do I have right now? Do I have time? Yes. Do I have opportunity? Yes. Even though I can't see it right now.
Do I have my sense of humor? Only when I focus on what is good.
Your focus determines the next outcome. Talk to me. What's going on? Say hey in the comments. Listen, I'm just here.
To be.
That source of certainty for you.
Because the world needs you. Kevin Anson. Your customers need you. Rebecca Turner. Your customers need you.
Matt. Your people need you.
Greg Johnson, Your people, this community, the people around you need you. Greg, you are a consistent voice of optimism. People need that right now.
Craig. And whoever will not receive you nor will hear your word, shake off the shitty sand off your feet. Yes.
Listen, your family, your.
Surroundings, your Facebook feed needs you. Hi, Sharon Hart. Now listen to this very carefully. Dan Sullivan gave me a good piece of advice. He said, in times of crisis and I was going through a hard time, I had just found out that I was going to be a dad and I didn't know what I was gonna do. I was pretty scared.
And Dan Sullivan said to me, during times of crisis, I like to ask myself one thing.
30 years from now, how will I be proud that I handled this situation?
30 years from now, how will I be proud that I handled this situation?
Did I do it.
By committing to grow through it or did I cower in fear?
And what determines that is what you put your focus on now, practically. Do you realize how many competitors are going to be scared out of the marketplace right now?
Do you have any idea.
How many investors.
Are looking to back certain entrepreneurs right now? By certain, I mean confident entrepreneurs who have momentum, who can go to them and say, even when the world melted, I doubled down. Do you know how many.
Media companies want to feature stories of people who are being good to their customers right now? Do you have any idea what, what kind of a wave of E commerce buying this is going to usher in? That's just practically speaking.
So what do you want to focus on? I mean, if you don't run an E commerce business right now, the world just moved to you because.
Now your messaging is clear. All you have to be is certain. You don't even got to be good. You don't even gotta be a copywriter.
You just have to be confident. You just have to be hopeful. You just have to be clear. That's it. That's all you got? That's all you gotta do. This is the time.
I just needed to give you a dose of optimism and clarity and confidence. Matt Ohms is posting about FBA pausing shipments to their warehouse. People are freaking out. Listen, when Pete, when Amazon shuts down its FBA shipments, you go to a 3 PL company and you do third party fulfillment. You go, you, you just created a business opportunity for the 3PL service that is still in business right now because somebody was willing to say, you know what, we'll help some entrepreneurs right now. We'll send out the packages.
That entrepreneur said, there are businesses who need supplies right now and we're going to go to work there's look there.
Get.
Get this. There's more pent up demand now than ever. Pivot. Go back to work. Listen to your people.
Be a beacon for your followers. Brandon is starting to fulfill his own orders. Good. Put thank you notes in the packaging. Say thank you for choosing us during such an uncertain time.
Put hand sanitizer in the package. Say, just in case you ran out. Put toilet paper. Write a note on the top end of the toilet paper and say just in case you ran out and put it in a big package and ship it out to one of your customers. Do you have any idea how fast that will go viral on social media? Boom. Opportunity created. You just put everybody else out of business because now everybody is choosing you. Fuck. That's a good idea. Kevin. Anson, I'm working on some video ads for 50 million coronavirus masks being made in China. Can I turn on the funnel? Is that being too opportunistic? No. I deviate from most people's opinions on this.
Somebody called me out on.
YouTube.
Accusing me of trying to profit off of scare tactics.
I was like, dude, this is the time when people have more demand on certain products and services than ever.
If you can't give them that at high prices and profit from it, what do you want? You want us to run out? So no, Kevin, do your thing.
Do your thing. Sell some shit. Sell lots of masks. Kevin Martin. I worked for Apple and have managed our warehouses for the past seven years. I manage three pails for a living and know their business inside out. If anyone needs help, give Kevin Martin a shout. That's community way to create change. Kevin. Good fucking work. Brandon. I'm glad you liked that idea. Put hand sanitizers in your packaging. Go for it.
Okay. I love you all. We're in this together. We'll get through this. And if you play this well, you'll come out on top. We'll be here through it all.
Be positive, maintain your focus. Appreciate you.
All right, capitalists, you heard the man. Limit your news intake. Focus on what you can control and get back to work. Couple of housekeeping items to clear up the new YouTube video Ryan is referencing here, which received some criticism is called Price gouging is good how to succeed during coronavirus and the upcoming recession. So please go check that out for another daily dose of optimism. Should you find yourself with 23 minutes and you catch yourself feeling anxious or uncertain and the course Ryan was referring to here the Other Half is a video series. A ten day challenge that reveals the habits of the other half and the secrets of creation, connection, status, cash flow and long term health and happiness. If you find yourself wanting to use this quarantine time, take advantage of this time and to put positive thoughts into your brain. We highly recommend visiting capitalism.com theotherhalf but don't take my word for it. Listen to this testimonial.
I have to ask since the other half is kind of this, this new training that we, we just put out. You're the first person, we've sold a bunch of them, but you're the first person to say I went through it. And so I'm just curious what was impactful for that or what did you pick up from that?
Hang on, let me put this into words. So it's. I need to. Need to understand.
Basically it, you took who I am out of all this callus and.
This shell I've been living in for 10 years and you took that, that program basically took that person like it cracked open that callus and it's like, whoa, this is, this is what I want. This is who I am. This is where I'm going. That's it. I know now to sit up straight. I'm a lion, baby. Okay. All right. And even when I walk down the street, when I'm picking up my son from school, I'm walking with my head up high. You know, I'm putting on my best boots now when I go out. Not my crappy 8 pound trainers, my hundred pound boots now. Right? I'm walking proud. I'm feeling strong. People are reacting around me differently. You know, I'm going to tidy up my house this weekend. This weekend I'm going to clear out. No more messy crap in my house because that's not who I am. And you made me realize that, you know, I don't, I can't. And also I really want to learn about the investing piece that you put in there. That, that is my next goal. Okay? So I really want to learn how to nail that. And just about the being happy thing, everything in there, oh my goodness, I don't even know where to begin. It's just, I'm gonna do it again and again and again. You know how when you like what Travis said recently, when you got a good book, you need to read it a few times. A book that changes your life, you can't just read it and put it down. You need to reread it. That is what that program is to me. That's my book, you know, that I want to re. Go through every time. And I just, just. And I think it's actually ridiculous, the price you put on that. It's ridiculous. It's like, what are you. Ryan, man, I know you love us, dude, but it's like life changing stuff.
People are gonna think I paid you. They're gonna think I paid you to say this.
Honestly, I just want to tell everybody I meet that you gotta do this program anyway. Yeah. Thank you.
That's amazing. That means. That means the world to me.
Thank you.
All right, capitalists. If you want to check out the other half course, visit capitalism.comtheotherhalf and remember, we'll get through this. It's entrepreneurs like you who create the change we need in this world. Wash your hands and stay safe.
