Welcome to Freedom Fastlane. I'm Ryan. Daniel Moran. Nice to meet you. Hey. Today I'm going to be talking about one of my success hacks, if you want to call it that. It's actually an elaboration on a strategy. One of the, one of the two things that I say you actually have to do, you've got to do them in order to be successful. If you recall from a previous podcast on that topic, it was taking result driven activity and surrounding yourself with people who can stretch you to the level that you desire. And today we're going to be elaborating a little bit on that second piece of surrounding yourself with successful people. Because I'm going to be talking about my strategy, really my habit I have, of developing what I call your success network. Your success network is that group of people around you that supports you on your quest to be successful in whatever area of your life you are attempting to be successful in. And hopefully you're trying to be successful in every area, in every area of your life, including your fitness, your faith, your finances, your free time, hopefully every area of life you are striving to be successful. And we all know that you become a product of the people that you hang around with. We all know this. We know this to be scientifically true. It is a biological fact that you become like the people around you. We are built that way as a way of survival. We are built to become like the people around us. So if you are surrounded by people who are overweight, the chances of you having a six pack and are very, very slim. They're not impossible. Nothing is impossible. But the chances of you having a six pack when you're surrounded by people who are 100 pounds overweight is very difficult. So if you want to change, if you want to be successful in a certain area, then the quickest way for you to biologically stack the deck in your favor is to change the people that you are hanging out with and elevate your success network. You could also think of your success network as your board of advisors, your success board on the path to achieving your goals again, in whatever area it is that you want to be successful in. You see, people are the number one influencers in your life. So if you don't have a good set of influencers, stop whining about it and start doing something about it. We're gonna talk a little bit about how to start doing that in today's podcast. If you want to achieve something, if there's something in your life that you wanna Change, then the first thing you need to do, One of the most important things you need to do is to start associating with those people that you want to become. Like someone is very financially successful, if that is a goal of yours, then the first thing you need to do is to start associating with the people that you see around you that are most financially successful. And the more financially successful they are, the better habits and the better strategies and the better mindset that they will be able to teach you. It's a funny thing about success is that oftentimes one of the biggest factors into your success is mindset. It's not always strategy, it's not always the right genetics. A lot of times it's just having the right mindset. Now, things like genetics and strategy can sometimes play a factor depending on what your goal is. But much of the time, your mindset can play the largest factor into your success. And a funny thing about mindset is that it can change and it can change very quickly and it can really be transferred from one person to another. You can, you biologically again can pick up the mindset from other people, providing that you are getting that mindset from someone else. This all goes back to building your success network and why it's so important to associate yourself with people that you want to become like. So when I wanted to elevate the group of people that I was surrounding myself with, the first thing I did was I was 22 years old. Naturally, I wrote a $20,000 check to a mastermind group to force myself to be around people who were at the multi million dollar level. At the time. I was not making.
Nearly enough money to be able to qualify for this group. I don't even know why they let me in, but I wrote the check, I had enough to join the mastermind, and I went in specifically for the reason to elevate my mindset. I knew that a strategy wasn't going to change my life. I knew that meaning one person wouldn't change my life as much as changing my philosophy and my mindset would change my life. And the funny thing about that is that it continues to play dividends today, years and years later, and it will continue to pay dividends when I'm 70, 80, 100, 110 years old. So if you look around yourself and you don't see people that you want to become like, if you look around yourself and your goal is to lose weight and the people around you are overweight, if you look around you and you want to be rich, but the people around you are poor. If you look around you and you want to be successful, but the people around you don't have a growth mentality. They don't have a success mindset. It's time to get some new friends and good news. But biology's on our side. We can actually hack a shortcut to success just by getting around some people who are a few steps ahead of us. Now the question becomes, how do we get around those people? How do we surround ourselves with those people? I wrote a big fat check to get around those people. Not a viable strategy for everybody. So I have developed a few habits. One in particular that I practice regularly that builds my success network. And we live in a time where the Internet is prominent. People communicate through these boxes called computers. And very few people pick up the phone and chat or meet in person or write letters anymore. So if you do any of those three things, you will stand out in the minds of successful people. Now, if you've listened to my podcast Interview with Greg Reed.
He talks about how successful people are often the easiest to get ahold of. He talks a little bit about how to do that. If you just go back and listen to that podcast. It's called the Success Equation with Greg Reed. He talks about how when he wants to learn something, he just calls up the best people. Now he's got some connections. Now, if you don't have connections, I can tell you how to get in touch and how to stand out from everybody else who is trying to connect with people who are at a certain level. I think it's fairly simple. It's just, how do you stand out? It's how do you do something that's a little bit different from everybody else who's trying to get the attention of certain thought leaders? So here is the habit that I practice regularly, and it is simply sending out thank you cards. Everybody says to do this. Very few people actually go and do this. And I get so many compliments about this. Just the fact that I put pen to paper and tell people that I really appreciate the fact that they had a certain impact on me goes a really long way to get those. And when I get thank you cards, it stands out to me. And it doesn't even matter to me if they're trying to get my attention. I just appreciate it so much because no one does this anymore. So every person that you meet that has an impact on you, if you send a thank you card to them, you will build your success network very quickly. But here's something that you should do today in order to start building your success network and that is take inventory of the people in your life that you would like to have influence you or that you would like to become more similar to. So it could be the neighbor next door who's got a really fancy car and you just know that he's doing something interesting with his time to make money. Or it could be your girlfriend's cousin who's just got this shredded six pack and these bulging arms and you're like what the heck is he doing that I'm not doing. Or it could be somebody that you have worked with in the past that really had their stuff together and you really wish that you could get around that person more to become more like that person. Start taking inventory of the people in your life, in your life who has touched you in some way in a positive way where you would like to become more like that person. It could be people at your church. It could be people who coach your kids baseball team. It could be the guy in your building who drives that car. It can be anything. And start writing them down because we're going to send thank you cards to to those people. And don't worry, I have a simple outline for you to write this thank you card. It goes something like this. And again.
You will knock people's socks off. Even if you don't know them that well. If you just let them know that they touched you in some way and that you appreciate it. Doing that simple thing will start to build an incredible success network for you just out of the people that you know. Because we all have a network. Most of us aren't actively trying to build it. Most of us just let it come to us. But if you actively build that network, it's amazing the things that you can accomplish. Just amazing when you have the support of people who are well connected. Because we can do almost nothing alone. We can do almost anything with the power of a well connected success network. All right, so here is your outline for your first thank you. Your first thank you letters. Again, this is going out to the guy in your building who drives the nice car or the coach of your daughter's softball team or whoever it is that you want to become more like. And that has some sort of piece to your success puzzle that you think would complement yours. Alright, so here's how the letter goes. It goes dear so and so. I just wanted you to know that you inspired me to blank. I really appreciated blank. As a result, I have decided blank. If I can help you by.
I Look forward to getting, you know, getting to know you more. Signed your name so it might sound something like this. Dear George, I just wanted you to know that you really inspired me to take control of my finances. I really appreciate the fact that you can drive that car and look so cool in it. As a result, I have decided to start a business to allow me to live the type of life that I've always wanted to live. If I can help you in any way, please contact me. I look forward to getting to know you more, Bill, the guy that lives in apartment 315. Or you could change this. Depending on your goals, it could be. Dear Chris, I just wanted, you know, I just wanted you to know that you inspired me to get in shape. I really appreciated the fact that you take such good care of your body and that you're passionate about talking about it. As a result, I have decided to commit to losing 10 pounds of fat this year. If I can take you out to lunch sometime, a healthy one, of course. I would really appreciate the opportunity to getting to know you more. Sincerely, Bill, your cousin's boyfriend. You see how this works? It's simply letting them know how they have impacted you, what you appreciate about it, what you've decided to do as a result, and making a request. If I can take you to lunch, if I can hop on the phone with you for 30 minutes, if I can talk to you about what my goals are and how you might be able to help, I'd appreciate it and I look forward to getting to know you more. That is it. That's all you're doing. You are letting them know that they are appreciated without asking for too much. It is simply saying what you appreciated and how they made an impact on you. This is a habit you should get into regularly. Every person you meet that has some sort of an impact on you that you would like to become more similar to. Drop a note in the mail to that person. If you don't have their email address, get it. I'm sorry, not their email address, their physical address. If you don't have their physical address, get it. If you don't know how to get it, message them, call them, email them, send them a note on Facebook, text them, call them, do what you have to do to get their address. If you can't get any of that.
I don't know, write somebody else. I mean, you can call them, text them, email them, Facebook them, ask them. I just ask them if I'm like, if I meet somebody, like, hey man, can I get your address? I want to drop you a note. That's it. Yeah, sure, whatever my address is. Alright, so that's what you start doing. Now. Some people say, well, can I, can I email this? No, you can't email this. It's just not nearly as cool or memorable to email it. If you're going to do anything virtual, what you can do is record yourself in a message on your phone, on your computer and you can send that to them. You can email them that video, you can send them a Facebook message with that video. You can put it on YouTube and send them a link to it. You can do all of that, but don't just put it in text. It should be in a handwritten or in video format. Handwritten is most preferable. Video is number two. The reason is because we know how much effort went into each of those things. Video is a little bit harder than writing an email or sending a Facebook message. And putting pen to paper is harder than that. And we intrinsically appreciate effort. So if you do that, if you just send notes to people that you meet or videos, but preferably, preferably pen to paper notes, you will start to build a success network. And you can start that with people that you know right now. Now, if you need to get new people in your life beyond that now, chances are you've got enough people in your life where you can have a pretty nice success network, a group of people, a board of advisors supporting on your path to success. But if we need to get new people in there, here are some places where you can meet those new people. Look, there are meetups everywhere for anything that you could possibly want to know more about. The important thing is going to them, going and meeting good people and asking them who they know. Go to meetup.com, find groups of people who are passionate about what you're passionate about and go meet them and then go find out who they know and get in touch with those people. Now, can you do online meetups? Can you do forums and Facebook groups and stuff like that? Doesn't have nearly the effectiveness, Just not nearly the effectiveness. It takes a lot longer to build up a relationship with somebody who trusts you and will introduce you to other people online. Takes a lot longer that way online than it does when you are in person with somebody sharing some sort of unique experience. A unique experience is a biological friendship maker. It's a biological trust builder. If you have a unique experience with someone, you biologically are forced to like them a little bit more. You're biologically forced to trusting them a little Bit more. So these need to be in person connections that you make. And when you follow up with these people, getting an in person connection is best. If you want to use the Internet, there's one way you can do it and it's by just posting on your own Facebook and saying, hey everybody, I'm looking to connect with people who can help me. Blank. If you know anybody that I should meet, please put them in touch with me. And then of course you meet those people, you drop a note in the mail and all of a sudden you're starting to build your success network. And the best way, in my opinion, is to go to conferences, is to go to conferences on your topic, is to go to physical meetups where people are getting together and talking about whatever topic it is that you're trying to be successful at. There are health and fitness conferences, there are business conferences, there are investment conferences. Go to them and and meet people and ask them who they know and drop thank you cards in the mail. Reserve time for conferences and building your success network. It will pay financial and happiness dividends for years and years and years to come. Now what the heck do you do with this success network? Well, again, these are the people who are going to be supporting you along the ride of your goals, along the path of you achieving your goals. So when you are creating a strategy for accomplishing that goal, run it by the best person to talk to in your success network or the best couple people. When you have something to distribute, when you have a something that you want to get out to the world, take it to your success network. Because they know people who are influential, who can help you market or spread the word of something that you're putting out to the world. If you need a tweak in your strategy or something goes wrong on your quest to achieve your goals, go to your success network for tweaks in that strategy, for feedback on what went wrong. When you are at a certain level and you need to meet people who can take you to the next level, your success network will help you do that. They will introduce you to other people in their own network. They are the cornerstone to you growing and being successful. No matter what it is that you are looking to be successful at doing. This is the way that you hack success. This is the way that you beat your competition. It's by meeting and networking with people who can take you to that next level. Because if you are only thinking the same level of thought as everyone who are your currently surrounding yourself with, then you have pigeonholed yourself into getting the exact same results as the people who are you are surrounding yourself with. And you have to ask yourself the question, is that the level that I want to play at? If it is, congratulations, you're successful. Keep hanging out with those people. People. If the answer is no, then it's time to get some new. It's time to see some new people. It is time to build your success network and I hope that this is a helpful strategy for you to begin to build that success network. Hey, I'd love to hear your thoughts.
