Stop trying to analyze it of who it's going to be for. You know what you want, dude, right? You know what you want to do.
Stop.
Stop stifling that. Stop using what you don't know to justify what you're not doing, right? Start doing it.
Okay?
And the people will show up, who show up.
All right?
And then you can zone in on speaking to them a little bit more specifically.
What would be three actionable steps, immediate action steps that I can take over the next, say, four weeks.
Build a business, invest the profits. I'm Ryan Daniel Moran, and this is Freedom Fastlane.
Hey, fastlaners, do you ever get in your own way, do you start thinking 10 steps ahead and stop yourself from making the first step? Or maybe you know someone who's in the same situation? John was in here. Ryan and I were at a business conference where there were a lot of ideas flying around. Different business models, all kinds of content ideas, and different platforms you can play with. And John came up to our capitalism business advice booth, looking for a little direction. The audio here is a little noisy. There's kids running around in the background and whatnot. But we think you're really gonna like this short episode about getting started and taking action. Enjoy.
So, John, why don't you tell me a little bit about what you're trying to accomplish?
Well, I'm a teacher by training. Been involved with teaching for. Not for the past 15, 20 years. I don't know the things, but teaching is where my heart is. And.
I've always wanted to do something outside of teaching or something that has to do with teaching, but that will add something to what I do. I don't see myself retiring as a teacher like a lot of my colleagues who've been in education a lot longer than I have. But I like to continue doing it and at the same time add something to it. I'm passionate about three things. I'm passionate about education, learning, teaching. I'm passionate about traveling, foreign languages, foreign cultures, and I'm passionate about volunteering, making the world a better place, and whether that be through a humanitarian effort, an environmental initiative, through mentoring, that sort of thing.
So tell me what you're trying to accomplish.
Well, I have a lot of ideas in mind, and I've been toying with the idea of starting something for the past 15 or 20 years. And sometimes I kick myself for not starting something back then, when a lot of the now big names started, like Pat Flynn, and I think he started, you know, a little over 10 years ago, and it was around that Time that I had my ideas as well. I was doing a lot of research, but I feel like I got caught in the paralysis of analysis. I was thinking things too much. I was overthinking, you know, ideas.
Tell me what you're trying to accomplish.
Like, right now, I'm trying to explain this.
In a nutshell. I don't know. But one thing that I try, at least start with something. That was the number one goal for this conference. Hit start, regardless of what that was. And right now, it's a podcast. And the podcast could lead to something else, to classes.
It could lead to projects in what area or market.
It would be learning, traveling, and volunteering. It will encompass those three fields.
Okay, got it. What type of content do you want to be creating?
Well, I like to create content, Content that inspires people to travel. Because travel has become more affordable, much more convenient than it was, say, 20, 30 years ago. People had to pay a lot of money to, say, travel overseas, and it was inconvenient. There were a lot of things that people had to do. So now it's still not the easiest of things. But if you have something that complements just the trip, because a lot of people don't just want to go to a place and spend a weekend.
So are you wanting to do a travel podcast?
Yes. It will talk about traveling, but I will also, in addition to traveling, we'll talk about opportunities that people have for learning and for making the place you're visiting a better place.
Okay, so give me an example of what that might look like.
Say, for example, someone travels to Puerto Rico, and they will have.
You know, as a basic vacation, people will just spend the weekend at a resort, go for, you know, a round of golf or something like that. But from where I see it, people can spend, say, still do that, still spend, you know, sometime at the beach. But at the same time, they can learn Spanish, they can also learn about the history of the island, and they can be involved in, say, a reforestation project in one of the big forests on the island. So they wouldn't be just.
Getting something. They'll be giving something back to the place that they're visiting.
How are you most comfortable creating content on a consistent basis?
Definitely speaking. I'm more comfortable communicating the my message through, you know, an oral form and expressing my ideas, whether that be through just a podcast in an audio. As a teacher, I'm used to talking or through video. I'm less comfortable with video, and another one will be through writing. But I'm not really fun of Writing.
Do you have a podcast name in mind?
Not yet, and I was hoping you could help me with that.
Tactful Traveler Why the Impactful Travel? So this is a. This is a blog or community that is mostly about travel.
Right.
Which is a very lucrative market because you can be an affiliate for travel points, credit cards for vacation packages, for flights and hotels, for Priceline, for a whole bunch of things. There's lots of opportunities there. And your unique spin in the marketplace is that you have very specific recommendations that are unique from all the other travel sites because they have some sort of an impact on them. They have some sort of meaning to them. There's some reason why someone should go there that is beyond just their own enjoyment.
Right.
There's a big movement of.
Young people traveling who are at the same time looking for meaning in their lives.
Correct.
So the meaningful traveler or the impactful traveler is kind of your unique positioning in the marketplace.
I really like the meaningful traveler even better than the impactful traveler.
There you go.
And I like the one word that you use, community. Because community evokes something that people are attracted to. Something that sounds less formal and less.
I can envision people going on trips together. Okay, you have a Facebook group. I'm going to this place. Who wants to go do this volunteer project with me.
Right.
That would give you all kinds of feels.
Okay.
I get the sense that would make you very happy if you saw people who are following you traveling together and doing something meaningful on their trip.
Absolutely. Now, you mentioned Facebook. So would you say that Facebook would be the ideal platform?
To me, the platform doesn't matter.
Right.
It matters what you are comfortable doing consistently.
So this starts as a blog.
Podcast.
So when I say blog, I mean there's a place where it gets housed. You might be able to do the whole thing within a Facebook group. That might be possible. But I think your play is to be talking about travel with a unique spin on it being meaningful for the rest of the world, and you talking about your trips and highlighting other trips and also making trip recommendations.
And highlighting shelters or volunteer opportunities that exist in specific places so that you are bringing awareness to areas that need more of that impact. And so you're the hub for that.
I like that.
I think it's your play.
Okay, well, and.
A lot of the. This isn't a new concept. This is not like I'm coming up with a groundbreaking concept.
There are other companies that do it, for example, EF Tours, but they focus mostly on, say, high school and college students.
I'm sorry. To interrupt, but I think you're about to give me a list of excuses of why it's not a good idea.
No, actually, I'm not. What I'm trying to say is that if I were to focus more on something, I will probably segment to people who are either in college or people who are just graduated from college and they're say, I think you're a gap.
Early to figure that out right now.
Okay?
I think you need to go make some mistakes.
Okay.
And go make some noise.
In what way? What would you say?
You've been thinking about this for a long time. Stop thinking about it.
Okay?
Stop trying to analyze it of who it's going to be for. You know what you want, dude, right? You know what you want to do.
Stop.
Stop stifling that. You stop using what you don't know to justify what you. What you're not doing.
Right?
Start doing it.
Okay?
And the people will show up, who show up.
All right?
And then you can zone in on speakington a little bit more specifically.
What would be three actionable steps, immediate action steps that I can take over the next, say, four weeks.
Pull out your phone.
Okay.
Speak into it and talk about your favorite trips and why they were impactful. That's number one. Do that three times. It's your first three episodes. Then make a list of three volunteer organizations that make a meaningful impact in the world and find someone on them to interview. Publish the first five episodes, start a Facebook group and put on your personal Facebook page, your own page, what you are doing, why you are doing it, and how they join the group and make mention of that Facebook group and every podcast from there on. Those are your three things.
All right? I like it.
Got it.
All right, so three. Three and then one.
All right, my email is ryanapitalism.com and I want you sending me an email in four weeks telling me that you did those three things.
Sounds good. Game on. Got it.
Talk to you in four weeks.
Thanks, Ryan.
Thanks, John.
Hey, team, real quick, shameless plug here. If you've ever seen my company logo for capitalism.com, it's a red sea with a flame at the end. And the reason why that's the company logo is because I believe that our purpose as a company and my purpose as a leader is to light other fires. And that means creating content for entrepreneurs who go on to build great companies, working with entrepreneurs to help them break through their plateaus and to invest in companies that really have a shot at breaking out. Teaching this stuff so that more success stories get created. I like to light fires. That's what I'm here to do. One of the ways that I do that is inside of our monthly membership which is called the 1%. And inside there, we send out a monthly newsletter which features case studies of success stories, what's working right now from some of the best people in the world who are doing this stuff or building businesses and investing the profits. And we feature business ideas that you can literally rip off and steal. We often even just throw keyword lists at you and say, go for it. Hey, we might even invest in this post. In the community, you'll probably find an investor too. And the idea is to bring together investors, entrepreneurs, influencers in one place where we can light fires really, really quickly. We also have a year long curriculum that is made to help you build businesses, invest the profits, increase your profits, create the change you want to see in the world. You can't not change as a result of going through this. So you can find out more@capitalism.com 1 if you've been listening to the podcast and you're missing community, you're missing opportunity, you're missing connection, you're missing being a part of a movement that is gonna make you a better entrepreneur. This is gonna fix that for you. It also gives you discounts on our events and our other products. And it's more than worth $10 for every dollar we charge. That's my rule as an entrepreneur. I don't collect a dollar unless I know I can provide 10. And this absolutely meets that. So that's@capitalism.com thenumber one hope to see.
