Well, hey everybody. Ryan Daniel Moran here with another episode of Freedom Fastlane. Today is a topic that actually I'm doing because I'm interested in. I'm going to be bringing back Elon Fergman from the performance enhancing podcast in satoriprime.com he's been on the podcast before, but he happens to specialize on a topic that I am personally very interested in and that is brain enhancement and nootropics and this new wave of things that entrepreneurs that I know from all over the world are taking and experiencing in order to basically hack their productivity and hack their success. Before we get into the call, I need to make absolute sure that you do not take this as health advice or even as a recommendation for anything because I don't even know how I feel about any of this stuff. But I wanted to get some information about the stuff that I hear a lot of entrepreneurs saying that they, that they really like and that, that they're, they're seeing good breakthroughs from. But from a health perspective and from, you know, how it affects your body, I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. I don't know what the government says about it. So please do your own research before taking any of this as advice. But it still is very interesting to see that there's some, some breakthroughs being happened in nutrition and with supplements to basically increase your productivity without doing anything illegal or frowned upon. So that's what we'll be talking about in today's chat with Elon Ferdman. Hey everybody, Ryan Daniel Moran here with a Freedom fast lane first. This is the first time ever that we're having somebody back on the podcast. Elon Ferdman is back with us. Your show is so popular that we decided to do it again. What's up buddy?
I'm living it up. Lovin life.
What does that mean by definition exactly? Living it up.
Living it up, yes. Loving life. What does that mean? That's a really good question. I just think enjoying everything life has to offer. I mean, I just went upstairs, made myself a delicious green peanut butter banana berries smoothie, my 20 month old daughter ran up to me and gave me a whole bunch of kisses and now I'm talking to you. So, you know, I don't know the.
First two, but talking to me is pretty awesome, I'll give you that. I wanted to have you on the show because at least my perception of you is that you have some insider knowledge that the government doesn't want us to know about. About brain power, about Things you can do to supercharge your brain. And, and this is something I've been really interested in and yet I have, I haven't, I have not experienced this for myself. And I want you to dispel a bunch of the myths that have happened for us. So is my perception correct that you're one of those crazy brain biohackers that somehow has inside knowledge on how to upgrade your brain?
If I said no, would we stop talking?
Yes.
Then yes.
This has been another episode of Freedom Fast Lane.
What does that mean, Elon?
What is this crazy trend that's going on that is supposedly how to biologically upgrade your brain?
So it's interesting because kind of like you, I had no knowledge that this was happening behind the scenes whatsoever. And I went to a mastermind group and there's about 25 people there. And I just keep hearing this word like nootropics, nootropics, brain drugs. And I'm just like, what the fuck are these people talking about? And out of 25 people, and these are like high, you know, multiple, six, seven, eight. I think someone in there was even a nine figure earner. And out of 25 people, about 20 of them are all taking these brain drugs. So now you get curious like, well, what is this? What is this? And it turns out that for the last, I'd say 60 plus years or so, there have been supplement based things.
That are very safe for you. I guess that our government does not want us to know. But in the uk, they use it to treat kids that have HDHD and ADD and all that stuff. And they have a lower lethal, lower lethal dose than salt. And ultimately what they do is they have your brain work at optimal conditions. So that means more oxygen, more blood, more synaptic connections. So like the neurons actually fire better. And the result to you can be multitudes of things. So enhanced memory, enhanced learning.
Better mood, some of them better reaction times.
They're not. The one caveat is they're not energy stimulants. So the first things first, like you still have to have a good diet and good sleep pattern. So if you're like one of these people that wakes up on three hours of sleep, it's not like Adderall where you take Adderall and you're like, I hate. My caveat is I hate Adderall, by the way.
You don't fly to the moon and feel like a robot. They enhance, but you still have to take care of yourself.
And I've experimented with a bunch of different ones. There's everything from supplements. There's also.
More Nutra. What are they called? Nutraceuticals. And there is botanical. So, like, have you ever heard of Yerba mata?
Yeah, like the, the tea stuff.
The tea stuff, yeah. That's also a cognitive enhancer.
Okay. And I've heard of like Modafinil, which I think is a prescription drug.
Those are the, those are the pharmaceutical ones.
Okay. And the one I've experimented with is aniracetam.
Huh.
Which I saw, which I felt nothing. Nothing from. So. So first of all, why don't you kind of dispel what. Each of these. Which each of these are. I mean, what you mentioned, Yerba mutt, however you say it.
Yeah.
How does that, something like that compare to caffeine or compared to one of the acetam's. Piracetam, Aniracetam. Okay, you know my ignorance on this topic then, so no worries. Would you explain these, these different categories to the person that has never heard that you can do something to enhance your brain?
Yeah. So interestingly enough, you mentioned aniracetam. That's actually what's in my shake that I'm drinking at the moment.
Okay.
So there's different ones. So pharmaceuticals are what you describe, like Modafinil and a daftinil. Those are designed by the government. This is how they came to this. They had Air Force pilots who were flying these, like super long missions where they had to be in a plane for, you know, 20 odd hours and then had to go bomb like a toothpick in the middle of some desert. Right. And so they used to give these people, like caffeine pills and all this kind of stuff. And you know, all that stuff makes you very jittery. So they wanted to create something that kept people super focused for a long period of time, didn't have all that negative effects. And that's when Modafinil and all the pharmaceutical stuff came out. I actually haven't messed with those because I kind of hate pharmaceutical drugs as a whole.
You and me both.
Yeah. I just try to avoid them like the plague. Now, I know people have taken them and get like amazing, amazing results, but it's just not one of those things that I want to mess with anything pharmaceutical.
To me, I fear the health of my liver and the rest of my body. But I know people like Dave Asprey, the bulletproof executive, swears by Modafinil swears. And I know other people that are like, I took Modafinil. It made me really jittery. It Made me, it made me really paranoid. But there's other people who just swear by it.
Yeah. One of the things you have to realize, and you said, you know, like you tried aniracetam and it didn't, you didn't feel anything. So one of the things that I figured out after talking to a lot of people and also testing different things on my body is that everybody, like physical body is different. Every person's brain chemistry is, is different. And so what will work on me might not work on you. And that can be from a multitude of different aspects. So the diet, the type of diet we eat, lifestyle, different energy levels, I mean, it can be so many different things. Having said that, these things are so safe to play with that if one doesn't work, you can always try different ones. So like the last time when I first started, a buddy of mine basically told me. So Racetam is the supplement stuff that I was talking about.
Before we go into there, I just want to ask a quick question. Go for it. Would Adderall then fall into the pharmaceutical grade stuff of like Modafinil and whatever the other 100%. All right. And then there's, you're starting to move into these, these Racetams which are not supplements or they're not prescription drugs. They're supplements, Correct? Correct. Okay.
They're labeled as supplements. The, the term that they use is nutraceutical. So like more like nutritional based supplements. And there's a slew of them. I mean there's different things, like you can take like all sorts of different extracts from different plants and all that kind of stuff. But let's just talk about Rastam because it's the easiest place I think, for people to start and it's really cheap and you know, really safe to test. So when I first started, someone told me, try piracetam, which is kind of the most simple basic of the Rastam family. And interestingly enough, the dosage on it is kind of high. So I think the proper dose can be anywhere from like 2 to 4 grams. I know certain people that take 10 grams of this a day, which is.
A lot. I've taken as high as I think.
I think the most I took was 6 or 7 grams in a day.
And forgive my ignorance and I'm sorry for interrupting, but what the heck are they exactly? Because they're not, they're not plant based or animal based. What, what are, what are they? What are these racetams? Exactly.
So they're different, different chemical chains.
And.
Each one is just kind of Created differently. So I'm just pulling up like the actual. Oh, interesting. The site that I usually go to is down.
The government doesn't want us to know this information.
But.
But I know they're like precursors to neurons, whatever the heck that means. But.
But the.
The chemical itself, where's it come from and what does it do in your body?
Yeah, I mean, it's created in a lab.
And like paracetam, for example, was developed. I think it's like 50 plus years ago. And I mean, there's a lot of science here, so it's gonna just be like a whole bunch of different words to people. Like. All right, so here it was developed by Romanian chemist in 1964. So exactly 50 years ago. It was created by converting 2. And here comes the part that Elon can't pronounce. 2. Pyrrolidinone into an amide. Who the f. What the fuck does that even mean?
Are you reading Wikipedia right now?
Is that. No, I'm on.
Is that what you're doing?
I'm on peakneutropics.com.
Okay, so. So I know they're precursors to neurons. They're made in a lab. That kind of creeps me out. But you say they're safe. I know you're. I mean, heck, you're drinking a green. A green drink right now. So you're. You're as hippie with your food as I am.
Tell me.
Stuff in a lab usually freaks us out. Why do you feel safe taking this stuff?
Well, I did. First of all, I'm like. Kind of like you. So I did a ton, A ton of research before just trying to look for, like, you side effects and things to watch out for. I mean, the side effects are so minute, even if people have them. The most common side effect is headaches. And the reason that people get headaches is because there's not enough choline in their body. So choline is basically to give it, like, a real simple term. It's this fat that the brain use. Well, not just the brain, but cells use to actually make the membrane. So imagine that there's like a membrane around the cell. The fat actually makes that membrane soft so that things can go in and out of the cell. When those things are hard, then, you know, things. Certain things can't penetrate it. Now what happens?
Like I said, you're basically sending more oxygen and more blood into the brain. And some people tend to get these, like, little minute. It almost feels like pulsing on the side of your head as that happens. But as soon as you up your. Like, if you take choline with it. I think I take like 2000 milligrams of choline in the morning.
Or you could just eat some eggs, right?
You can eat some eggs. Yeah, I supplement. I work with this pretty intense functional medicine doctor who from my blood type, not blood type, but what happens in my physiology. I'm actually. And this also goes for anyone that does a lot of thinking throughout the day. Like, really intense work type stuff. Choline is really, really good to do. It kind of like, for lack of a better term, lubes your system. That sounded really gross as I just said that.
All right, so choline is. Is a fat that basically gets your brain ready to accept the new neurons that are going to be created from whatever supplement it is that you're taking.
Yeah, just kind of imagine it like oil for the. Oil for the brain.
Okay, got it. And so we were starting to talk about these racetams, where they come from, what they're made of. You mentioned piracetam and you were starting to talk about your experience taking piracetam and that there's people that take like a thousand grams a day. And then I. People?
Yeah, people take a lot. People take a lot. Yeah. So that's what I did. And the guy that introduced me to it basically said, look.
You need to take more than you would think to get the effect. So here's what I recommend. And I just did it. And what I found was.
It does keep you awake.
It's not a stimulant. So, like, why do I hate Adderall? I hate Adderall because the one time I took it, I remember, was in college to study. I ended up sitting in a room for 13 hours shaking. Not shaking like. Like withdrawal shaking, but like my hand just shaking violently, my leg shaking violently. The last thing I can focus on was studying my body. Just felt like the most foreign thing was in it.
You know, I've done like recreational drugs. This was by far the worst my body ever felt putting anything in it. I was like, this is a horrible thing. So that was the first thing I was looking for, was how does my body feel when I put this stuff? And it was very, very subtle. And it wasn't.
I didn't have more energy, I wasn't shaky, I wasn't nauseous, I didn't have headache anything. What I did find was.
I would have conversations with people on the phone. And if you could imagine that when you talk to someone.
You'Re kind of searching for the answer, you're kind of like, searching for what you want to say. And the way that I always see it, it's like your brain pulls up all these little cards, and you're kind of like, wadding through the card to see what's the thing to say. Right. And then when I felt like I was on paracetam for the first time, it was like the perfect card was always there. Like, the perfect thing to say was always there. I could listen better, I could focus better. The work that I was doing, I was just, like, in the zone all the time.
So just things are firing. You're able to think sharper and faster. Okay.
It almost like Clarinex or Claritin commercial, where they're like, remove the fog. Yeah, that's what it kind of felt like to me. And it wasn't from the standpoint where I was like. So that was the first thing I was looking for, like, physical, because my body's actually pretty sensitive to all this stuff. So first thing was, like, body reaction. Is my body liking this, rejecting this, do I feel weird, etc. That was number one. Then two, I took it for two weeks, maybe even more. I took it for, like, three weeks during the week, not on the weekends. And then I stopped, because what I wanted to see was, if I don't take it, is there some sort of, like, withdrawal? Am I not as sharp? Am I, like, yearning for it? All that kind of stuff. And what I can say is you definitely notice that you're not as sharp as when you're on it. But it wasn't like I couldn't function. You know, I was just functioning like I normally would.
So it wasn't like people who drink a ton of coffee for basically similar effects, but once they stop taking it, they feel like they need the coffee in order to just function in the morning. It was not like that.
Not like that at all. Interestingly enough, that you bring up coffee. One of the things I cut out about three, four years ago only because I had an experience, but I later found out that it was actually smart, was caffeine, because I was drinking caffeine every morning. I have a great coffee machine, and I just love coffee. So I did that every morning. And then I went to a seminar, and I probably drank about, I don't know, like, six or seven cups of coffee because I was exhausted and I was just downing them. So on Monday, when I got out of the seminar, I was like, you know what? I'm just not gonna drink coffee for the next two days or for those week. And I just had a pounding headache for about three days. And I realized how addicted to caffeine I was. I found out later that if you drink one cap of caffeine or one cup of coffee a day for two weeks, you are fully addicted to caffeine. It when you wake up in the morning and someone's like, oh, I need my cup of coffee. Basically all they're doing is bringing themselves back to baseline, not, like, to some sort of peak performance. It's your body actually can have flu like symptoms if you don't drink caffeine when you're addicted to it. That's terrifying. Yeah, it's crazy. Now here's the problem.
I drink coffee a few times a week and really enjoy it, but I don't feel like I need it for a baseline. But that kind of scares me to think that even my body might be slightly addicted to it.
Yeah, two weeks, one cup a day, your body is addicted. Now, interestingly enough, caffeine also has some really good cognitive enhancing properties. The problem with caffeine, though, is that when you get a cup of coffee, you actually have no idea how much caffeine is in that cup of coffee. It can be anywhere from 40 milligrams up to like, 500.
And so depending on how many milligrams of caffeine you put in your body. Do you ever have too much caffeine and you just feel, like, weird? Your body's kind of. Yeah, right. So what I started doing was I started switching. I just drink decaf because I still love, love, love the coffee flavor. I actually drink bulletproof coffee in the morning, but with decaf. And then I bought caffeine pills, like 200 milligram caffeine pills that I split in half. And I take them with l theanine. And if you ever want to experience just like a really. What caffeine is supposed to do to you, that is an unbelievable mix. Like, take 100 milligram pill and an L theanine pill. You will feel amazing. And that's like one of those things if you, like, wake up and you're groggy, you're not feeling so hot, take one of those for the next six hours. You will feel amazing.
Would you say that combination again and also comment, how the heck is that different or less make you less dependent on something like coffee?
Okay, so here's the deal with that. So it's just a caffeine pill. They're usually sold in 200mg. I would prefer like, don't get the capsules, because then you can't, like, undo the capsules, but get pills that you can cut. And I take 100 milligrams, and the other one is L thyanine. And that's just kind of like. Some people get really jittery when they take caffeine, and that just kind of mellows out that process and gives you just like, a really nice, clean, alert feeling. Now, the caveat to that is you cannot do this more than twice a week.
I rarely take it. I mean, I maybe take it like, four times a month or something like that.
And that's to limit your dependency on caffeine, correct?
Yeah, because I'm just very, very aware of my dependency on caffeine. So that if you just want to try, like, that actually will give you a nice nootropic feeling. But the difference is that that doesn't actually help your learning ability, your memory ability. It might enhance a little bit of the mood, I'll actually say that. But all like, the increased learning, increased retention, memory, stuff like that focus, that has nothing to do with that. That's all more in, like, the Racetam family.
All right, so let's move into that. So we covered how caffeine makes you feel, and I think that's a good baseline for people to compare to because most people have had caffeine in their lives. Sure. What's the difference then, when you take something like a piracetam, since that's the one you brought up so far.
Yeah. So for me, again, like, one of the things that I really.
Loved about Brass Game was the focus. You just.
Have this ability to focus on your daily tasks in such a.
Profound way that almost like I took Ritalin, I think, in college for a little bit.
And that my body actually didn't mind so much. It still felt very foreign, but, like, at least I. You know, I could sit in the library for 12 hours. This is not to that level, but it's that same feeling without having, like, a drug, like, feeling in your body so I could retain information better. I was. I just felt more in tune with people that I was having conversations with. If I was working on a project like creating videos, writing copy, editing videos, any of that stuff, I was literally in the zone. I could set a timer, and I just got shit done and done fast. And anything that detracted me, where usually Facebook will pop a message, you'll get a text, and you're kind of off in another world, I was like, no, fuck that. I'm getting this task done. And after about two weeks, I remember I was talking to my brother. We were doing a webinar, and he goes, dude, I don't know what you're on, but you sound like you're on fire.
Hmm.
And I was like, huh, Interesting. And then I sent him a bag of piracetam and I went on vacation. And I remember I came back. So I was like, so how is that? He's like, I don't know what the fuck you gave me, but I'm a machine.
And this is. This is just piracetam and choline. Correct.
That's it. That's all I started with.
Okay. And that's like a couple grams a day with. With some choline, correct?
Yep. Okay.
Are you mixing this with anything or are you just taking it as a pill or a powder?
So you can do both? There are pills, I think they have like 800 milligrams per pill or something like that.
The problem with that is that once I saw the amount that you need to take, I was like, well, this is gonna be an expensive habit. And then you can go to a website like peaknutropics.com or.
Nootropics depot.com and like you can buy. This is gonna sound like super drug, right? You can buy a kilo of this stuff for 70 bucks.
So when I did that, I just bought the kilo. It lasted me a year plus same same amount. Right. And I was pro. I probably take like.
I'm now at a point where I probably take like between 2 to 4 grams a day if I take Pracetam. And what I do is I just mix it in water. Like I put a scoop in water, I mix it, it tastes a little bitter at first, but after three days, I didn't really taste it all that much either.
Okay.
And yeah, just that with choline and good to go. I would take it with breakfast in the morning and then I would take another dose in the afternoon, usually around like one or two.
Okay. And that keeps you firing at all cylinders for the full workday.
Full workday.
Okay, so that's piracetam. How is that different from the other racetams? And what can you tell us about those racetams?
Okay, so each, it's called the Racetam family. And what I didn't know when I first started, I actually learned this from my doctor friend, is that each one actually has its own properties. So like, certain ones improve memory, certain ones increase learning, certain one are more focus based, certain ones are more like sensory perception, certain Ones help your reaction time. So each one has a little bit different effect and flavor. And not flavor, like flavor.
Yeah.
And then also because every. Like I said before, everybody's physiology is different. Certain ones are going to resonate with your body where others aren't. So for example, Ryan, you said that you tried aniracetam and it didn't do anything.
Right?
Right. So what I did after I found this out, I kind of went back and bought. This is gonna sound so crazy. I bought like a sampler pack.
Of six of the different racetams.
Okay.
And I was just kind of like tracking, you know, by day, I would say, like, you know, I took this today and then kind of like cogn. Just be aware that I took it and think, like, how did I feel that day? So my favorite ones actually become this. This one called fennel phenylpiracetam, which is P H E N Y L. And I had a really funny experience. I was like bringing my. My son to school, and I'm. I'm walking around and I'm just like smiling everyone. I'm like, hi, how are you doing? Good morning. And I'm not a morning person at all. And so I get back in my car and I was like, huh, that was interesting. And then I come back and I'm like, oh, like, I took phenylperoxam and I read what it was, and one of the things was it was a mood lifter. So I was like, oh, interesting. But like, phenylpiracetam is extreme focus agent. So whereas, like, paracetam is just a focus, you know, like enhanced focus. This is extreme focus. And then let me see. Aniracetam is one of the things that it has, is decreased anxiety, improved mood, increased learning. So each one of them kind of has its own little thing.
Okay. So I was expecting a more coffee effect or an enhanced focus effect when I took aniracetam, but that particular flavor of that racetam is enhanced learning. So I might want that one if I'm reading a book or if I'm going through some videos on how to learn something or if I'm learning a language.
Exactly.
But if I wanted to focus, then I. I would be looking at piracetam if I wanted to have, like, for example, I took aniracetam when I. When I have, like a long list of things to do. Maybe not the best enhancer for that, but if I want to learn something, that would be good for that. I didn't know that. I thought that they were all just modifications of the same effect.
No, I didn't know that either. I didn't know that either. And I'll tell you that everything you, you have to kind of test it on yourself, right? Like just because you read something, you know, this is what it's supposed to do to you. What I found that like oxyracetam, which is supposed to be like one of the stronger ones.
You know, improved memory, advanced learning, greater focus, stuff like that, that one for whatever reason just doesn't vibe with my body. Like I just don't get a good effect from it. Other people that I talk to, they're like, that's their favorite one. That's their go to when they have to do the busiest, craziest days. So again I recommend if you're going to try this, first of all, I think piracetam is the easiest place to start because it works on about 85% of people.
But the best thing to do is get a little bit of five or six of them. They're really cheap. I mean I bought like a sampler pack of six. I think it cost me like 120 bucks or something for six of them. So you can try one for a few days, then try another one. Like you're gonna feel a difference between them. I know when I took phenylpirastam the first time I was like, holy shit, this stuff is amazing. I did find out that it's also outlawed in the NFL and the Olympics as a performance enhancing drug.
Interesting. That's a nice little transition here to the side effects and the long term effects on their body. I know that Tim Ferriss has said, I forget which book it was, but he says inside of one of his books it's talking about the racetams and nootropics. And he says, I think people underestimate how helpful and dangerous nootropics are. But he didn't comment further on long term effects or their danger. Do you have any experience or any knowledge on this?
So I had a podcast where this is how I met this functional medicine doctor amazing guy, Dr. Beck. And that was one of the questions that was kind of on everyone's mind. It's like from a physiological level, what is happening and can this really hurt us? And he unequivocally basically told us like.
The.
The only things that you could possibly look for, like that these things, you know, kind of like what people say about certain drugs where it can like burn your neurons and decrease your serotonin levels and all that kind of stuff which could be really dangerous things.
Right.
For the body. But he's like, I've tested over 10,000 people, like, their actual blood work, not just like, how do you feel today? Like, physically went under the hood. And he's like, I can tell you from my personal experience that I've seen none of those effects. When I got my blood work done, I'd been taking Racetam, like some sort of Racetam for a year plus almost every single workday, not on weekends. Serotonin levels excellent. Like neuronal activity, excellent. So I kind of took that test to figure out, well, am I causing any damage to my body? And under the hood, everything looked great, at least in that respect. You know, there's other things I needed to work on, but so, no, I'm not really worried.
Interesting. Okay, so you take them on a regular basis without any fear of them having long term effects and you're pretty convinced that they're safe.
Yeah. And I mean, you mix them up. So like Yerba Mata, like I said, is a really good.
Natural cognitive enhancer. You can absolutely start with that. For those of you guys that are drinking coffee, switch to Yerba Mata. You'll have a way better experience. Maybe not the first few days because you're probably going to be going through withdrawal for about 10 to 14 days. But it will make you feel, it's so much cleaner and there's no crash.
You actually get better focus, better energy.
I don't think it tastes as good, but, you know, I want to come.
Back to this one. Before we, before we go there, are there any other Racetams that we should know of? I know Piracetam and aniracetam. Are there any others that you experiment with?
With? Yeah, so I've experimented with paracetam. My favorite, like I said, is fennel, piracetam.
Aniracetam, oxyracetam.
Whoa, whoa, whoa. Tell us about oxyrastam.
They're all, I mean, oxy is considered to be one of the strongest ones, but that's the one that I told you. Like, I, I don't really have, I didn't really have a great.
Reaction to it, but I know people that have and they, they swear by it.
They say, like the one the government wants us to know the least.
I actually think fennel paracetam is the one that they want you to know the least about.
Interesting.
Yeah, because I mean, if, if it's banned in the Olympics and the NFL, they've basically found that it obviously gives people an advantage. And I'll tell you, like, I Play tennis pretty seriously. And so I went to this tennis camp and took it beforehand.
I probably played the best tennis of my life.
Interesting.
So I don't know if that was like a psychosomatic thing.
Or not, but now I take it before tennis matches, it's. It has almost this feel where you like, laser focused on the ball somehow.
Which for tennis is excellent. So.
Okay, give us a quick round of the rest of the raster Tams.
I'm trying to think which one we missed.
Aniracetam.
If you can't think of it, it must not be that important.
So that helps I at least understand now why I didn't have the effect when I took it. Because it wasn't the right flavor of Racetam I was looking for.
Yeah, yeah.
And now I'm a little bit relieved about the safety of them. If your doctor friend or whatever he is, seems to think that they're. That they're okay.
Yeah. This guy's a wizard. By the way. The other one that I forgot about is Prama. Racetam, I think is also considered one of the. Oh, that. That one is actually the strongest. Not oxy, but pramiracetam is the strongest. But again, they're all kind of like better learning, you know, that one is an extreme focus one. And this one also throws into the mix advanced logical thinking. So, like, if you're trying to solve problems, Pramoracetam might be what you want to look for.
Interesting. Okay, so I am clear now. Let's move now into the. Do we call them total natural ones? Like, what did you call them?
Herbal, botanical or.
Okay, yeah, and you've mentioned yerba mate and I want you to clarify a bit on that and the difference of that and caffeine and tell us about some of the other Britannic things that you take.
Yeah, so yerba mate is actually the only one that I take. It's a super high antioxidant tea. They drink it in Argentina, almost like it's their exclusive drink. They have these, like, cool little cups. They drink it all day.
My experience, though, is that it's just a much cleaner.
How do I describe it? So it feels like when I take the caffeine and L. Theanine pill combination.
But if I drink a cup of coffee.
Now, like, I'll get a little bit of a kind of, you know.
Enhancement. But the problem with caffeine for me, like in a cup of coffee is that an hour, hour and a half later.
It just all goes away and it doesn't bring you back to like where you started, it just goes way lower, right? And then that's where people, like, keep going back and back from our caffeine. And that's a horrible thing.
With the racetams also. That's the other nice thing. There's no coming down. There's no effect where like, oh, I'm on a drug, it's leaving my system, I'm done, right? If I just take it in the morning and don't take it the rest of the day, I don't hit a low. It just kind of like leaves the system. So with Yerba Mata, I found that it actually gives you a nicer flow, flatter energy, and then you just kind of come off it. You don't feel down or, you know, any of that stuff. Other things that, you know, this. This doctor that I work with swears by, but I've never tried, there's different oils that you can take. Like a lot of the wood oils, like saddle wood and cedar and all that kind of stuff. And he swears by it.
That just sounds weird, man.
Exactly. Even to me. I was like. I told him, I was like, doc, you know, that sounds a little weird for where I'm at right now. He's like, look, they're great, but I have not experimented with those at all.
I think we should just skip the oils and go straight to eating paper.
They're fibrous, they're nutritious, and you get all the oils.
Is it blotted with acid?
Yeah. That's something also I've never experimented with. So let's do it.
There's a nootropic that'll help you think differently.
That'll open some eyes.
I feel like I though I need to make a legal disclaimer that none of this is a recommendation, that this is all for experimentation in your own private views. And I have very little experience in any of these, including acid.
I don't recommend that you guys go out and do acid. I'm just saying let's.
I want to dive into this a little bit further, further about the fact that I see a bunch of entrepreneurs kind of obsessed with this idea of brain hacking and performance enhancing. And heck, you have a podcast called the Performance Enhancing Podcast. So what is the overall effect that people are going for by trying to up their brain game? What is it that they're trying to accomplish? And why do you think it is so common with entrepreneurs specifically?
That's really interesting question because I've actually had these conversations with people. So before I started, I told you I was in that mastermind group. That's really what I was trying to find out. Now, what was interesting to me was that out of a group of 25 people, 20 people were taking it. And these were like super successful entrepreneurs. So I've come to this and after having many conversations with people that.
I believe if you're like a worker bee getting a check.
Your performance, and I'm not trying to demean anyone that has this lifestyle, I'm not saying, like, entrepreneurs are better than that. I'm just kind of like from the outside looking in, right?
That person is getting a paycheck, right? They just need to show up to work, do what they got to do, go home, they get a paycheck. An entrepreneur. And most of these entrepreneurs, their livelihood depends on how well they perform at their daily tasks. Okay, now, if you're like a supreme athlete, right, why is there so much talk about steroids in the NFL and baseball and all this stuff? Because, look, you're competing against the best in the world. You're always, I believe if you're in that world, you're always looking for an edge. You know, like the Philadelphia Eagles brought in this crazy ass Navy seal, like.
Physio guy. I don't, I don't know what he even dubs himself.
That's the technical term, physio guy.
Yeah, we'll go with that. And he basically has all of them on like a strict diet, strict workout regimens for their whatever position. And these guys have said like, one of their cornerbacks just came out publicly and said, like, I've never ever felt this good by week nine in the NFL ever.
So there's a lot to be said about that. And I think entrepreneurs are of that mindset. We're always looking for how we can improve what it is that we do. And when I noticed that like out of a room of 25, 20 are on it, I'm like, you know what? This is at least worth a try. And then once I kind of saw the results, and then you see those results in your actual, you know, bottom line quote, unquote, and you're like, all right, look, this shit works.
Do you know anything about the protocol that the, the NFL team was taking?
No, I don't. But they actually spoke about it, I think on Monday night.
I saw them. The TV was just muted, but I saw them kind of like make one of the shakes that he makes for them. And the guys were just laughing. Like, when I turned it on, I didn't hear what was in it, but they were already laughing like, this isn't even food. You know, like something crazy like that. And then they were saying how the team just feels amazing.
So it's, it's nootropic stuff like what we're talking about. Probably a mix of.
I don't know what he gives them as far as nootropics, but I'm saying, like, from a diet perspective and like a certain workout regimen, that's what they're working on. I'm just saying that athletes are always looking for something. So if the NFL banned phenylpiracetam, clearly there's enough people doing it that they even. I mean, how would you even test for that is beyond me. Like, so. Yeah, and in the Olympics, like, people got medals taken away from being found on it.
Okay, so this now, now you're sending up my, my scary spidey senses again, where if it's banned, it must be bad. What's, what's the reason why you would ban something that is supposedly perfectly safe in a sport?
It gives you an unfair advantage.
But if it's. Eating greens gives you an advantage, taking fish oil gives you an advantage. And those are things that are all healthy and unbanned. So what would make a racetam different?
Well, think about this. Like hgh, for example, which has been proven to have some amazing health benefits, right? But the NFL is banning that. I think what they're. I think from a sport level, what they're always trying to do is keep the playing field as, even as possible.
You know.
What'S his name? Lance Armstrong? When he was doping, what he was basically doing was blood transfusions. He would take out his own blood, they would super, super oxygenate his own blood, and at the end of every race, you'd basically have like a blood transfusion. It's called blood doping. Now that's perfect. I mean, if you could do that every day, like, you'd be the healthiest person on the freaking planet, huh? But it gives him a massively unfair advantage, Right? That's why he's such an obese in the, in the hills, huh? His blood was just super, super oxygenated. So I don't think it's necessarily like they ban things because they're bad for you. I think they ban things because something from a sport level, I think it just gives someone an unfair advantage.
Interesting. I had never thought of it like that.
Well, that's why we're talking, Ryan.
I guess, you know, that's. That's what you get from. That's the knowledge that you get from taking acid all the time.
I'm actually on it right now.
Oh, you're on acid right now. Okay, great. I've. I don't even know what it looks like. So that's why, you know, I'm so ignorant on, on, on this topic. All right, so back on the, on the, the more natural side of things, you have your ba mate, right? Which is a tea. A tea that you take on a regular basis. Is there anything else that we can consider nootropic or brain enhancer in that family?
Again, just as far as I know, just the oils. There is a product that I think Dave came out with Dave Asprey a while back called Siltep. And I think they used some like.
Extract of. What the hell? Wow. I'm just asparagus. Like it was asparagus extract or something like that. So there's definitely things out there. I haven't experimented with those.
Okay, and.
You'Re taking these. Do you only take them when you want a certain effect or are you taking them more as like a. Almost like a multivitamin to keep you at your best?
Good question. So my kind of baseline, like Piracetam, my body really, really enjoys. So it's just like kind of my go to. If I'm just having like a normal day, that's what I'll take. And then I have like, if I know I have a day where I'm making videos or I have a lot of phone conversations, then my favorite one to take is phenylpiracetam. So I'll take that one. If I know just I have like another busy day, but I'm not really making videos or whatever it is. I might take something like aniracetam or. So I try to take it every work day. If I'm not working, I don't take it.
Okay, got it. Now final question. Where the heck do you get these things? Where the heck are you getting these Nootropics. I found them very difficult to find.
They are kind of difficult to find in the US because they're not like they used to be FDA approved or they were going through some fda, I don't know, whatever, but they're. They're not.
So I go to either two websites, peak nootropics.com, which is nootropics by the way, is spelled N O O Tropics.
And then the other one is nootropics depot.com. those are the two that I usually go to.
Okay, well, your. My mind is blown, so apparently I need some Nootropics or, or some acid in order to process all of this. So, Elon, thanks so much for enlightening this topic for us. Go ahead and tell people about your podcast and where they can find you for more.

So thanks so much for coming on.
Absolutely. Thanks for having me, buddy.
As entrepreneurs, we are constantly looking for an edge and this is the, dare I say, cutting edge stuff that a lot of entrepreneurs that I know are just absolutely swear by. And again, I don't know how I feel about it. I don't know what the long term health risks are. So none of this is advice or recommendations. But it is interesting to see what a lot of entrepreneurs are doing to stay ahead. Heck, you know, Steve Jobs said that he had some of his best breakthroughs when he was on, what was it, acid or mushrooms. I've never done acid or mushrooms and this isn't a recommendation for those things. But it's interesting to see how entrepreneurs will do anything to get an edge. And this is one of the things that a lot of people I know are experimenting with and having good results with. So it's very interesting. Obviously do what you think is best for your body and your health. But it's, it's an interesting conversation to see that what things are doing biologically to hack their success. And I know people who follow certain diets. I have recommended a ketogenic diet in the past, which is a very fat ridden diet that I feel like gives me the most energy and the most clarity of mind. So everybody is different. Do what is best for your body and your health and your family. And this is what some entrepreneurs are doing in order to increase productivity and happiness and increase the results that they're seeing in their business. This is probably the longest outro I've ever done, so I'll wrap it up. Thanks so much for listening to Freedom Fastlane. Do me a favor and if you're not subscribed to the show, go to itunes.
