John Assaraf: Decoding The Law Of Attraction
11 Dec 2025 · 49 min
John Assaraf separates the Law of Attraction hype from what actually works: clear goals, a strong reason to pursue them, and focused mental rehearsal. He calls it the Law of Goya because thinking alone does nothing. Neuroscience backs it up.

Hey everybody, welcome to Freedom Fast Lane. This is Ryan Daniel Moran. Have you ever seen that movie the Secret? I think that movie is a bunch of hooey. I think it is a bunch of overhyped, over marketed nonsense that preys on people's wishful thinking. Now, my guest today knew that and he was featured in the Secret and he offered to come on to Freedom Fast Lane. To set the record straight, my guest is John Assaroff. Now John has been featured on Larry king, I think seven times. He's been on the Ellen DeGeneres show and he was featured in the Secret. He's built and sold 5 multi million dollar companies and is extremely successful. The reason I asked John to come on is because I wanted him to dispel some myths and I wanted him to challenge the beliefs that I had about the law of Attraction. Because everywhere I go, my successful friends talk about how much of an impact it's had on their lives. But all I see is the overhyped BS that is all over the media. So I asked John to come on and talk about it straight with me without all the marketing, without having to sell a book or a movie. And the conversation did not go as I expected. John was very frank with me and he agreed that a lot of what is popularized is really overblown. And so he leveled with me and really gave it to me straight about what he believed to be true without any overhyped nonsense. It's a very straightforward and very enlightening call. And I think you'll get a lot out of this chat with John Asaroff. Hey everybody. Ryan Daniel Moran here with Freedom Fastlane. And today we've got a good one. Today we're joined by John Asaroff, who has had several billion dollar companies. He's been featured in documentaries with Richard Branson and the Dalai Lama. He was featured in the Secret, which is a little bit about what we're going to be talking about today. And now he's focused on brain research, brain science. So, John, this sounds like an interesting conversation. Thanks for hanging out with us at Freedom Fast Lane.
It's great to be here, Ryan and I look forward to hopefully giving you and your audience a couple of pearls that have helped me with my life and we'll go from there.
Well, John, you know, we talked previously about the reason why I wanted to have you on was because a lot of my guests talk about the law of attraction, which at least in the way it's presented to me, I don't like. I'm tired of Hearing about it, I wish people would stop. I didn't really care for the secret. I didn't really want to hear about how you can sit in the corner of your room and think about what you want. That doesn't, that doesn't jive with my logical brain. We'll get to that because I know you have a different way of looking at it. But first of all, before we go into that, can you give us like an overall philosophy that you, that you talk about? You've got quite an extensive list of credentials here that it's, it's hard to intro you. So can you give us a brief 30 to 60 second overview on you?
Sure. I started off my young career in my late teens when I was 19, selling real estate. And fortunately for me, I had an amazing mentor who really understood the power of our mind and thinking about the right things every day, including how you think about yourself. And he also had an amazing ability to teach me how to believe things about myself and what was possible that I never thought was real or possible for myself. But he also did something that I guess very few people do, is he taught me that thinking without acting is really hope and prayer. And he said hopes and prayers are not good strategies for success. And so he gave me the benefits of what I call as winning the inner game and winning the outer game. And that's how he really looked at life and business. He basically said to me, said that imagine if you think of your health as a game and money as a game, and spiritual growth as a game, and relationships as a game. He said to me, says you can choose to play the game at one of five levels. And he said level number one is playing at the kindergarten level. And that's just, you know, just basic having fun. So then when you get to the grade school level, you can, you know, learn a little bit more. And then you graduate, hopefully and go to high school level, it becomes a little bit more competitive. And then you go to the university, if that's the path you choose to, where you gain more knowledge and you develop more expertise and you upgrade your knowledge and your skills. And then if you really want to play at the highest level of the game, that's the pro level. And that's only reserved for the top people on the field who have not only the skill but the relentless desire to play at the highest levels possible. And so when I was 19, he had me, you know, sit down and write out what my goals were for each area of my life. And at that time, I had no Goals. I just wanted to pay my rent and, you know, be able to borrow my brother's car and put enough gas in it so that I could go out there and try and sell some real estate. But what happened for me specifically was the art of writing down my goals, even though I had no idea how to achieve them, caused me to think about things differently and caused me to upgrade the level of the game that I was playing at. And my mentor, Alan Brown, was relentless at the truth and really taking a look at was I putting in the work necessary to get to the next level of the game? Was I building my skills and my knowledge and was I practicing and then re evaluating the results on a daily, weekly and monthly basis so that I could consistently hone my skills and my ability to, to become what he called back then was unconsciously competent, which means that I could do something without really thinking about it. It was just part of my nature. And so fortunately for me, after having gotten into so much trouble with the law and in school, up until the age of 17, 18, I found a mentor who really understood the power of the mind integrated with the power of doing the right things in the right order in health and business and relationships. And he was just an amazing mentor that set me off on the right path many, many years ago, 33 years ago. How's that?
So when you started this process, were having billion dollar businesses one of those goals?
Oh God no. Back in 1980 when I started working with him, it was June of 1980. You know, I set a goal initially when he asked me to write my goals down to make $25,000 a year, and he didn, that was enough. He had me reset my goal when I was 19 to $100,000 for the year. And I didn't reach the goal in the, in the 12 month period time, I made $55,000, which was more than double what my father made as a taxi driver. But the following year, by following the process and the planning that he had me do, I made $151,000. And then somewhere around seven years later, I purchased the franchising rights for a REMAX of Indiana and moved from Toronto to Indiana and set a goal for a billion dollars in sales. And in 1992 we hit $1.2 billion in sales. And so it wasn't an overnight success. It took us from 1980 to 1992 for me to really be able to get my head around a billion dollar goal. But by that time I had 12 years of practice and growing myself as a human Being and upgrading my knowledge and my skills. And since you mentioned the Law of Attraction earlier, really keeping myself in the right vibration, which I could explain more of why that's so important from a neuroscience perspective, but also from a goal achieving perspective a little bit later.
All right, first of all, I'm impressed because having lived in Marion, Indiana for four years, I have no idea how anybody is buying $1.2 billion worth of real estate or why there people are moving to Indiana. But you touched on, you're starting to touch on the subject that I really drew me to your attention because everything that we've talked about up until this point just sounds like good advice. Write down your goals. I do that every morning. Analyze the steps that you're taking and see if they're lining up with the goals that you've set for yourself. Thinking bigger in order to change the thoughts that you have to have. But then there's kind of the, the world of the secret that seems to preach that if you, if you sit on a rock and think about what you want, a butterfly will float it down to you, which doesn't resonate with my logical brain. You come at at it from a different perspective and I know, I can tell you that's my perspective because that doesn't bother you because you have a different perspective. Share with me, Set me straight. Where am I getting this wrong, John?
Well, you're not getting it wrong. Most of the world is if you think about the Law of Attraction. Unfortunately in the movie it led people to believe that all you have to do is think, believe and you'll achieve. And what I've told people before the movie and since the movie is that if you just think and you believe and you think you'll achieve, they're going to come and take away your furniture. And the reason for that is the Law of Attraction has a corollary law that goes with it that we didn't talk about in the movie. And it's called the Law of Goya. G O Y A and very, very few people have ever even heard of the Law of Goya. And the Law of Goya is the get off your ass law.
Yes. Amen, brother.
Yeah, and what I mean by that is there isn't a monk that I'm aware of that's been sitting in a monastery who believes in the abundance of the universe that is in harmony with everything in the universe, that all of a sudden a plane load of money falls into the monastery. I haven't heard of that on any TV station or radio Station or in any magazine. However, I have heard of monks who come up with an idea, who actually end up making millions with that idea because they actually do the right things in the right order, including being in the right vibration. And what I want to say about that is when you research a little bit about quantum physics or neuroscience, we know that our body is made up of atoms. Those atoms are made up of protons and electrons that are all vibrating. And we are nothing more than tiny vibrating packets of energy or otherwise known as quanta. And so think about this for just a moment. Have you ever thought of a person and all of a sudden your cell phone rings or your home phone rings and they're calling you? Or have you ever walked into a room and you know something is wrong, but nobody has said a word? Well, everybody's had that experience of whether it's getting an email, a phone call, or knowing something is up without the physicalness of it being evident initially. And that's because we have 100 trillion cells in our body. Every one of those cells actually is emitting a frequency Based on the thoughts that you have and the emotions that you have. And emotions are nothing more than energy in motion. And we have a faculty of our brain called intuition that picks up on the vibration around us and within us. So if you think about the word feeling, Feeling just means conscious awareness of the vibration my body is in. It could be an unpleasant feeling, it could be a pleasant feeling. It could be a feeling of anger, it could be a feeling of love. These are nothing more than electrical signals that have been released in the brain, Followed by a chemical that produces the feeling. Feeling. And the feelings that we have are not limited to our own body. All of the research points that somehow this connected web of energy Is in constant communication with all other forms of energy in the universe. It's called entanglement. From a quantum physics perspective, Everything in the universe is entangled. And so if you think about how a radio wave works and how a radio works well, when you tune in to, let's say, a jazz station that you like, or rock and roll station you like, or punk rock station you like, or classical music that you like, the receiver is tuning in to a frequency that's already in the room. And then it's being output, the music is being output through the speakers of the radio. Well, we have a brain that's nothing more than electromagnetic switching station that is receiving light in through your eyes. It's receiving sound waves that we only hear a fraction of the sound wave spectrum. We Only see a fraction of the light wave spectrum into our brains to decipher what is happening in our external world through our senses. Hear, see, smell, taste and touch. Those are the physical senses we've been given. We also have higher faculties of mind, one of which is intuition, where we're able to pick up, viscerally, pick up this feeling, this vibration of everything that's happening around us. Now, where this law of attraction thing works is if you thought of your brain as the receiver and transponder of information, of thoughts, of emotions, what happens is that when we are in what we call is neural coherence, brain coherence, between the goals that we want to achieve and what we believe at the implicit part of the brain is we actually achieve something called neural coherence. And that means that 100 trillion of yours and my blood cell, blood.
Cells, excuse me, our cells are vibrating at the level of the goal or the we want to achieve.
Okay, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Okay, whoa. Yep. So this is a little bit outside of the scope of what my logical brain thinks about on a regular basis. So I want to make sure I understand. If, let's assume that all this, if I can put my disbelief, suspend my disbelief for a second, then what you would be arguing is that all of our thoughts have a frequency and that when we think about what our goal is, we get ourselves to vibrate at that frequency. Am I correct, understanding that?
You're 100% correct in understanding that part of it, yes. There's another part.
Well, would you tell me first, before we move into that other part, would you tell me how that affects the results that we would see in the real world?
Well, that's the next part of the whole equation. And that's if you think about your brain and you think about, let's say, your eyes, most people think that they see with their eyes, but they actually don't see with their eyes. It's their brain that sees. And so your eyes do nothing more than allow light into the retina. And so your brain is actually looking for things in the physical world that it is cognitively primed to look for. And what does that mean? If you buy a brand new car, how is it that all of a sudden you start to see that type of car all around you as soon as you make a decision or you actually are driving that car, or if you happen to be pregnant, if your spouse, significant other is pregnant, you start to see people who are pregnant more than you ever have before? Well, the reason that happens is your brain is not only responsible to keep you alive, but it is looking for things in the physical world on an ongoing basis based on what you are giving it instruction to find. And so your brain has its own GPS system, just like a GPS system in your car that once you enter the direction. I'm sorry, you enter the address of where you want to go, your car will navigate you there through the interaction between the car and the satellite system. Well, our brain has its own GPS system. And the more we focus on what it is that we want to achieve, the more we're giving our brain the instruction to allow anything that seemingly looks like or sounds like that thing. It allows us to become consciously aware of it more than if you were to maybe look at your goal once every month. And so through a cognitive priming strategy or through cognitive priming techniques, whether it's reading your goals every day, whether it's visualizing them, whether it's emotionalizing them like a Hollywood actor or actress would emotionalize a part that they've just gotten the script for to become that part. The more we cognitively prime our brain with what it is that we want to achieve, the more we're giving it the direction at the conscious and unconscious level to help us find that. And now what happens is, instead of only seeing about 2,000 bits of information per second that are based on what we have been conditioned to see and observe and feel and think about, we now start to retrain and rewire our brain to see things that it normally didn't see, to have our body resonate and vibrate with that new vision or idea of what we want. And all of a sudden, we start meeting people that we didn't meet. All of a sudden we start to discover things about ourselves that we didn't know before. All of a sudden our awareness starts to expand. And that in itself starts to evoke what I call is the law of resonance versus the law of attraction. A lot of people mistake this law of attraction as if it were a magnet. That you think of something and something's magnetized to you. We know that when you put two magnets together of the same polarity, they'll actually repel. So from a.
Simple physics understanding, we know that they'll repel. However, we also know that people that have like mindedness like to hang out together. Losers like to hang out with losers, winners like to hang out with winners. People that resonate, that are in the same vibration because of their values, their likes, their goals, their dreams tend to hang around together as well. That starts to Set off a resonance factor in this field that appears to be physical to us, even though everything, whether it's your car, the chair you may be sitting on, the computer you might be looking at, is actually nothing more than vibrating packets of energy. So the more you're in alignment with what it is you want to achieve and you focus on that consistently and you learn the skills and the strategies for making that a reality, and you really cognitively prime or train your brain to consistently look for things for people, for books, for courses, for whatever you need in order to make that a reality. The more that seems to work in this physical experience that most of us are having, that is the lower part of our abilities, meaning we have a physical body, we have intellectual functions and emotions, and there's the spiritual side of our being. And I believe we're all spiritual. And so how do we work from a higher order of operation? And that's a spiritual operation versus a physical modality of making things happen through sheer hard work.
John, part of me so resonates with what you're saying. Part of me so appreciates the strategy that is being very clear on what you want and having a daily check in of what that is, so that your brain is open to the possibilities that can serve that and is smart enough, if you will, to eliminate the things that are distracting us from those goals. But then you keep using this languaging like the vibration and staying in the vibration of our goal. And that, that. Well, that doesn't get past my BS meter yet. And so you could address that and explain to me more of the science of it, because I know you have extensive background there.
Yeah. So if you look at your hand right now.
Your logical mind would tell you that your hand is physical, right?
It does, yes.
Right. And so if you were to have an electron microscope and you were to look at the palm of your hand or the back of your hand, what would you see?
I'd see a bunch of cells interacting with one another.
Right. And if you looked a little bit deeper, you'd see the vibration of those cells.
So if you looked at your hand and you'd see through electron microscope cells, if you kept magnifying it, you would see that those cells are actually vibrating. The deeper you go into the cell, the more you're going to see the electrons and the protons vibrating and circling one another. And so the reason I bring this up is we know that every thought that we have changes the speed at which the cells vibrate at. And so no differently than if you had A block of ice, it would be in a solid state or a solid vibration. If you added heat to that block of ice, it would melt and turn to water. If you added heat to the water, it could turn at 212 degrees to steam vapor or gas. And with steam, we could actually move a locomotive. It's Nothing more than H2O, you know, water molecules in a higher speed of vibration. And so when we're thinking about our goals and we add focus to those goals. The ability to focus on one's goals does the exact same thing as focusing the sun's energy. The sun's energy will heat up a general area. If you add a magnifying glass in between the sun and a piece of paper, you'll be able to focus that sun's energy, alter the vibration of the sun.
And get the paper to burn. If you take that same sun and you focus the sun's energy into single protons, now we have a laser. So it's the exact same energy focused, that causes the ability for us to utilize it differently. So when I talk about keeping your focus on what it is that you want. Unfortunately, most people have ADHD and they can't hold on a thought long enough for it to become powerful. They are focusing on 10, 20, 30, 50, 100 things at a time. And what we know in order to achieve success, you have to have the discipline of focus and your thoughts. We know we have 35,000 to 50,000 thoughts a day, Most of which are the same thoughts we had yesterday and the day before and last week and the week before that. And so part of the. I guess I don't know if it's a trick to success or a staple of success is the ability to train your mind to stay focused on what it is you want to achieve. And we know that in the act of staying focused, we know that that is affecting every cell of our body. We know if that's affecting every cell of our body. People around us can feel it. If we wanted to stretch what is known about quantum physics, we would say that our thoughts are nothing more than ripples. Just like a ripple in the ocean or ripple in a pond that is seen after a rock has been dropped into it. And so the person who's able to focus relentlessly on what he or she wants to achieve, that's step one and then step two. That's part of it, is to be able to channel that focus towards doing the right things. And I'm going to give you one last bit of all of this. There's something new that's happened in the neuroscience field in the last several years, and that's the discovery of mirror neurons. Like mirror, like the one you look at yourself in the morning, maybe when you're brushing your teeth or say, or shaving. And what happens is if you see me, for example, eating an ice cream, the neurons in your brain fire as if you're eating the ice cream yourself. And so the act of seeing me do something or the act of thinking about something fires those neurons in your brain. And we know that electrical signals and chemical signals have a vibration associated with them. If you don't believe me, just stick your finger in electrical socket and see what happens.
John, is this why the idea of the four minute mile, the barrier of something being unseemingly impossible, when that gets broken, so many other people are able to achieve that same thing?
Well, absolutely, when you think about beliefs, right? Beliefs are nothing more than neural, neural patterns in the brain. And so when, when somebody breaks the four minute mile, which was Roger Bannister back in 1954, May 6, 1954, I believe, is when he broke the four minute mile. Within weeks, other people started breaking the four minute mile because they now believed that it was possible. And so the belief that was possible created a whole new set of possibilities. And when you create a whole new set of possibilities, there's always going to be the person who is the front runner, the leader, the innovator, the Edisons, the Steve Jobs, the banisters of the world. And beliefs are what drive most of our behavior. And obviously our habits do as well. And so one of the keys to understand is beliefs emit neurological frequency. When you think of something that you believe, when you behave in a certain way, you're behaving in a certain frequency. If you ever have, I don't know whether you have kids or you don't, but anybody who may have kids or may have a friend or family member, you know, that's feeling a little down and feeling doldrum. And you say, come on, pick it up, pick up the pace, come on, you can do it. Well, what you're really telling to do is pick up your energy state. And so everybody knows that everything is made up of energy. Most people have never practiced.
The energy frequencies within themselves. And we have five different brainwave frequencies. You've got beta, you've got alpha, you've got delta, Delta, you've got theta, and you got gamma frequencies. Gamma is the most powerful frequency in the universe. And as of about five years ago, Dr. Richard Davidson @ The University of Madison at Wisconsin started to measure gamma brain wave frequencies in monks who are considered the Olympic athletes of meditation. And up until that time, a gamma frequency was only known as a burst of energy in the cosmos above our atmosphere. And we have now learned that our brains are capable of producing that kind of frequency, which is an extremely intense, high focus frequency like a laser. And so when you are able to think and get yourself to eliminate all of the distractions in your external world and in your inner world, and you're able to focus like a laser on the achievement of a goal, Most people's energy, Ryan, is diffused. It's diffused in thinking, it's diffused in behavior, it's diffused in skill, it's diffused in knowledge. And they're wondering, how am I going to achieve my goals? Well, there's an old saying that you've got to win the inner game first. And so when you win the inner game, that is the game of really having the beliefs, the habits, the vibration of 100 trillion cells that can act as transistors and receivers for you. You start to see things you never saw, you start to hear things you never heard before. And you start to really take advantage of the gifts that God gave us with our physical abilities and our non physical abilities. And just because something is not seen doesn't mean that it's not working. Think about this. When was the last time you saw.
Window? Never in a dream maybe, but.
You don't, but you don't see wind, you see the effects of wind. When was the last time you saw gravity? You don't see gravity, you see the effects of gravity. And we're not at the stage yet where there's enough empirical scientific evidence that says here are two or three or ten or a hundred double blind studies to show that your thoughts affect the physical world. That does not exist. However, just because science hasn't caught up to that, not existing because we don't have the measurement tools by which to be able to measure at the infinitesimal level that we're talking about, doesn't mean that there isn't something happening that we still yet don't understand the scientific basis for. But I can share with you from personal experience how many times I've thought of one of my sons or my mother and I get a text or an email or a phone call, or I'm focusing on hiring somebody very, very specific that I'm looking for for my company, where I've written it out in great detail and I focus on it and all of a sudden I get a call or an email from a friend saying, hey, one of my friends is looking for a job. And the description matches exactly what I need. I've had my own experience, you know, that I talked about in the Secret, where I cut out a picture of a magazine and focused on it every day. And then five years later, even unbeknownst to me, I was actually living in the house several thousand miles away from what I was living when I cut out the picture. I've had enough experiences of my own that I know that something is happening between my focused attention, my intention, and then creating a state of no tension where I allow the intelligent universe that's around us that makes it possible for the planets to orbit around the sun in an elliptical fashion, that it makes it possible for me to develop or create 10 million cells per second as 10 million are dying. I know it's possible only because we have the most powerful tool in the universe right between our ears, this three pound piece of gray matter called our brain, that we're finally. It's only in the last 10, 12, 15 years that we're able to look inside a human brain to know where the pleasure circuits are, the fear circuits are, the doubt circuits are, the motor cortex, the parts of our brain that cause us to be negative or destructive versus the part of our brain that comes up with solutions and answers for our goals. It's only in the last several years that we're able to understand a little bit about how our brain is working to either act as a tool of mass construction or to be our biggest weapon of mass.
Destruction. Hmm. So, John, to somebody who is on the journey of success or somebody who wants to experience a certain change in their lives, what practical steps do you suggest people, in order to harness that energy? Regardless of how people perceive it, if they look at it as just the logical side, like I tend to, of training my brain to look for something or more. On the neuroscience view of what you're talking about, of operating at a certain frequency, what habits or practices do you suggest people do on a regular basis in order to harness that.
Energy? Well, first and foremost, I suggest that everybody, and we get every one of our clients. I've got tens of thousands of clients around the world. First and foremost, the most important key is to pick your bullseyes. And what I mean by that is, is there a goal that you are absolutely 100% clear on that you want to achieve? So do you have the what clearly defined? What is it that I want to trade my life for that I'm committed to achieving. And whether it's in business and finances and charity, your body, your physique, your relationship. So you start off with what you want to achieve achieve. The second part of it is to really write down why. Is it critical for you to achieve that? And the reason I say that you start off with the why is because most people don't understand what it's really going to take to achieve their goal. And if they don't have a big enough why, they won't do what is necessary. Many years ago I was taught the difference between interest versus commitment. And interest is when you'll do what's convenient and commitment is when you'll do what it takes. And so imagine if I said to you, Ryan, or anybody who's listening, imagine for just a moment the person you love the most in the world. And it can't be yourself, but the person you love the most in the world. A sibling, a friend, a child, a parent, somebody. Imagine if I said to you after you had the goal that you wanted to achieve, if I said to you, if you don't achieve that goal by the date that you have set to achieve it, you will never see that person that you love the most in the world again.
Would your thinking change? Would what you do change? Would you reduce the amount of excuses that you have? Would you reduce the number of stories you tell yourself? Would you get out the door right now and find out the knowledge, the skills, the people, the resources? Would you become more resourceful than if it was just a half assed effort? And everywhere I go around the world, the answer is, well, yeah, if I wouldn't see the person that I love the most, of course, you know, I would do everything it takes. Well, guess what? Well, why not do everything it takes if you really want to achieve that goal? And as soon as you start to have a big enough why something that is really more than you just eating a bigger steak or you having a nicer home or a nicer car, something that has a higher moral or social purpose, that gives your life more purpose, more meaning, that gives you a feeling like your life matters, that you're loved, that your, you're cared about because of your contribution and who you are. When you start thinking every day in those terms, what you're willing to do is different, what you're willing to tolerate in yourself changes. And what you hate doing or shouldn't be doing starts to diminish because now you are lasered, focused on an outcome and it's no different, Ryan, if I said to the people listening right now, hey, let's put on our running shoes, put on your shorts and a shirt. We're going to go run a marathon, 26.2 miles. Most people would say, well, I can't do that. And I would say, that's right. But what if we made the decision that, let's say 12 months from now, every single person who's listening to this is going to run a marathon. And that's our goal. And the reason we're going to do it, our big why is when we finish the marathon, we're going to have enough Money to do 20 heart plan surgeries for people who need us to raise enough money to do it. And then we said, okay, great, we need a nutritionist to help us with the right diet. We need a trainer to teach us how to each train properly for our level of fitness. Would we be all be able to run a marathon 12 months from now? The answer is yes in 99.9% of the cases. If we gave us 12 months and had the right development of skills and had the big enough why and we all collaborated, we would all run a marathon. And so what changed? What changed is we set a goal with a long enough time frame, we gave ourselves a big enough why that's bigger than ourselves, and then we added specialized knowledge of what do we need to eat, how do we to exercise, how do we to stretch and take care of ourselves and gain the stability, and then we will all achieve that goal. That may seem impossible right now because a, we haven't set the goal and B, we haven't created a big enough why. So when you start to use your brain properly and you start to use, you know, the resources that are available to you, and you have a big enough why to achieve the goals, the how becomes a lot easier when you think of it in those terms. Most people don't spend enough time on the how. When people ask me, you know, how have you achieved the success you've achieved? I said, I always start with.
A big enough why.
A why before the what or a.
What. And you decide why after the what. I decide what I want to achieve. Then I ask myself, why is it critical for me to achieve.
That? Now, John, I'm in 100% agreement with you. I find that a lot of people who don't have very clear whys often don't really have a good grasp on what it is that they want, on what it is that would light them up on what that Thing is, that's a worthwhile goal for them to put all of their mental focus on and maybe.
Achieve.
Correct. What would you say to somebody who hasn't yet found that deeper why or hasn't yet found those things that will really light them up? Because I hear from a lot of people who listen to Freedom, Fast Lane or follow anything that I publish, they say, how do I find out what it is that I want? And that's an interesting question because I think it's subjective. But I'd love to hear your perspective on what you do. In the case of I don't know what is going to really light me up. That's worth me coming up with a why for that's worth me putting all my energy and mental focus.
On. Yeah. The first thing I have all of my students do is write down all of the things that they really love to do, all the things that bring them joy, all the things that make them feel like they have a purpose in their life, that they have. They have value here on this little blue planet of ours, this beautiful blue planet of ours, and the things that they're skilled at. So what is it that's easy for you? What is it that makes you joyful and makes you really committed to doing it? I don't care if it's sports, I don't care if it's making hot dogs. I don't care if it's taking care of kids. I don't care if it's creating products that will save people's lives. Every single person has been given a set of gifts that when they apply those gifts, they can really be in a state of flow and play. And what I mean by that is this. There are certain things that when you do it, it's really work and other things that when you do it, you're really having a lot of fun. So you start with the things that are really a lot of fun first and the things that you love to do. The next part of this is to ask, what are your natural skills? Are your natural skills? You know, people skills are your natural skills. Mathematical skills are your natural skill.
Comforting people. What is it that you have as natural skills? And you start to ask questions and then you say, well, what could I do with these skills? What could I do with the things that I'm really passionate about? What do you read? Who do you hang around with? What do you talk about? What TV shows do you watch? What hobbies do you have? And you build a scenario around if you could mix and match all the Things that you love either work for somebody else or create your own business around that. What you'll find with over 7 billion inhabitants, there are people who really resonate with what you do naturally and normally. And then if you start to excel and get better at what you do, then what happens is you start to have more fun. And ultimately you're doing something that I call is trading your life for what you love. And every moment of every day, we're doing stuff. The question is, are you trading what you're doing for what you love, or are you trading for what you're tolerating or hating? And if you're trading it for what you're tolerating or hating, the question is, why are you doing that? What belief do you have that's causing you to trade your very essence, your gift from our creator for some of your tolerating or.
Hating? That's a powerful question.
John. Oh, yeah, it's a very, very powerful question. And most people say, well, you know, I went to school because I was supposed to. I went to college and took these courses because my parents told me I'm supposed to. That's what society says. Well, you know what? Some of our parents were wrong. Some of society is wrong. And, and you're meant to love your life. You are meant to feel vibrant, you're meant to feel alive. You're meant to feel like you're trading your life for what you want. And that doesn't mean that it's going to be easy. It means you're going to be doing it because you love it. Whether you're a professional athlete or a professional entrepreneur, there's hurdles, there's challenges. There's highs and lows and ups and downs. And that's just called the law of polarity and the ebb and flow of life. But when you're doing what you. You get back in the game and you sharpen your skills and you get better and better and better and better. And then all of a sudden, you see you go from the kindergarten to the grade school to the high school to the university, and all of a sudden, through practice, drilling and rehearsing the right things in the right order, you're honing your skills and you get to do more of what you love for a whole lot more money that will then allow you to live the lifestyle you want, then ultimately allow you to leverage the money and the time that you have to help other people. And there isn't a greater joy in the world than helping others, whether it's your children Your family, your siblings, or even people that you don't know. And because of your passion and your excellence, you're able to touch the lives of another human being or an animal or nature. And you can go, wow. Because I'm doing what I love to do. I'm being rewarded for doing it really well. And that reward means that I can take really great care of myself and my family and I have more than enough to do more. And so people go from the four levels of success. And there's a lot of people in a state of scarcity where they think that there's not enough and their whole life is based on there's not enough, there's not enough, there's not enough, there's not enough. And by focusing on that, that's what their experience is. Then the next level is people that are in the second level, which is a space of security. And the space of security is there's just enough, and there's just enough for me and no more. Maybe a little bit more. Then when you become a little bit more aware of the power within you and the resources that are available to you and you move to a level of success, and that's when you know there's more than enough for you and there's more than enough for many others. And when you move to the fourth level of significance, that's when you know there's more than enough for everybody on the planet. And there's more than enough food, there's more than enough water, there's more enough money, there's more than enough great people, there's more than enough resources, natural resources that we consistently rediscover because we're using the power of our focus, the power of our brains. And so what I love to suggest is, why not set your life on a course of significance? Because at a certain point of each of our lives, we're going to arrive somewhere. And what I want to make sure that I'm a part of with my own life is that a I have no regrets that I could sit in that proverbial rocking chair and say, wow, what a journey I lived. I did as much as I could. I gave. I was a philanthropist, I helped people, I cared about them, I loved them. And I'm prepared to pay the price of discipline today so I don't pay the price of regret later.
On. Amen. Amen. I'd say regardless, John, of where you are in your journey or what your opinions are on goal setting in this whole process that there's so many different opinions on these are our lives we're talking about here. And if not, and if there isn't something that's compelling enough to get us off our butts and to get off your ass, then we need to rethink the thoughts that we're having on a daily basis. We need to start asking our questions, like what would get us excited to get out of bed in the morning? Because that's when we really start to live fully.
Alive. That's totally correct. Absolutely. And so that's really, you know, when I look at, you know, what is my life's purpose and vision is to help millions of people release and remove the mental obstacles that hold them back from achieving the greatest biggest version of their lives. And that's really where the brain research we do and the products that we've created to help people retrain their brains about what's possible is so critical for me because there's new research and new evidence and new methodologies of how to do that. And so that's what drives my every.
Day. Well, John, thanks so much for sharing with us what is available. You have made a profound impact in many different areas of the world. So keep on changing the world, buddy. Thanks for hanging out with us at Freedom Fast.
Lane. Appreciate it.
Ryan. For so long I have imagined these followers of the Law of Attraction as hippies who are meditating in their room trying to attract what they want to magically appear. Forgive me if you're one of those people, but it was so great to hear John, one of the most respected people in this community, come on and say that no one talks about the Law of Goya. The law of get off your ass. I was so glad to hear him say that today on Freedom Fast Lane. It's also really great to hear him come in and explain this theory without all the marketing BS that we hear thrown around about the Law of Attraction. And when I hear John talk about it, it's a much more attractive message to me. Regardless of if we agree on every little detail, it's a much more attractive message to me than what is so often peddled around circles to people who are buying things that aren't true. I want to personally thank John for coming on and dispelling these myths. And if you liked this chat, it means a lot to us when you leave a good review for us on itunes. It helps us spread our message of freedom, of inspiring, educating and empowering people to live extraordinary lives. Thanks for listening to Freedom Fast Lane and I'll chat with you soon.
