And you may not know Nicholas right now, but you're going to hear a lot of him over the next year. Plus, he's the author of the Unbreakable Spirit of the Unbreakable man. And he's going to be sharing his story that is going to be especially inspiring to those of us in business. Nicholas, thanks so much for hanging out with us at Freedom Fast Lane.
Thank you for inviting me, Ryan.
Nicholas, I want to give you some time to share your story because it is one of the best stories that I have heard in a very long time.
Thank you. Well, just to be brief then, Ryan, several years ago, my background was I was a business development person in the in the corporate world, working with large corporate companies or startup companies. My role was to win new customers and identify their problems and develop solutions for them. So that was my business background, if you like. I was a problem solver and I thought I had a fantastic, very fulfilling life. I had a beautiful wife who was my soulmate, an amazing son, two dogs, lived in a gorgeous house in an English country village, which was something that maybe Americans see on television quite a bit. It really was that picturesque type Eng village. And I was very physically fit and healthy, able to afford most luxuries in life. And as I say, I seem to have it all. But unfortunately for me, the first cracks in my perfect world appeared roughly in 2003 when I was diagnosed with an illness which cut my career short. It was an illness for which there was no cure.
So unfortunately for me, as I say, my career is over and I had to try and cope with that. Luckily for me, though, I had the finances to cover all my medical bills and retire at the age of 40 quite comfortably because obviously I'd had quite a successful business background. And after a couple of very, very huge operations for me, I retired to France where I had a 500 year old chateau which used to be owned by a nobleman that was under King Louis xiv. So that's my type of background. And after being, if you like, recovering from these big operations and things seeming to get back on track, one of the biggest or traumatic tragedies, I think I could say in my life occurred. I was actually paralyzed from the neck down. I was in a freak accident. A tree fell on top of me.
And I was paralyzed completely from the neck down. I was told that I would never move again. I was rushed to hospital. My wife at the time was told, don't expect Nicholas to recover from this tonight. He'll probably die. He won't even recover from his injuries. They were so bad. My spinal cord was crushed, my neck was broken, and it was actually like a bayonet. So if you imagine a bayonet on the end of a rifle, that's what my neck was like. So there wasn't much hope for me. I was flown to a specialist hospital and after waking from my operation, which I did, thankfully, I couldn't feel any part of my body. There was nothing at all. There was no numbness, there was absolutely nothing.
And all I could do was just lie there and just call out to the doctors and ask what's happened to me. And they just calmly and coolly came over to me and said we were very sorry, but there's nothing we can do. You're paralyzed from the neck down. It will be an absolute miracle if you ever recover. Your spinal cord is crushed. You're going to probably end up in a home for the rest of your life being taken care of. And even now it's very emotional for me because that brings back memories of just anger and hate, bitterness, sadness. I was obviously, as you can imagine, extremely scared, very frightened. But the first thing that came to mind was, you're wrong. I told the doctors they were wrong that I was going to walk again. And I just started screaming and shouting at the doctors, completely going mad with the nurses having to try and calm me down.
Now, Nicholas, before you complete this story, I mean, you have up until this point what most people in business consider having made it. We all kind of dream of this idea of one day being comfortable enough to where we can retire to a Chateau France and live with our beautiful wife and our family and do whatever it is that we please and still be in good health and fairly young. You were exactly that. And I guess all those dreams could have been snatched from you had you accepted that fate. So I want to know, at what. At what point in this experience were you able to say, no, I'm going to get through this?
Well, actually, Ryan, it was when the accident happened, when the tree fell on top of me and I was lying on the floor. There were actually some workmen at the chateau, and they came running over, and I said to them, look, guys, can you get the tree off me? I can't move. And they said, the tree's not on you. There's nothing on you. And from that instant, I just said, look, I'm paralyzed. I can't feel anything. Nothing from my neck down. I'm paralyzed from the neck down. But I said to them there and then, but I'll be fine. This is going to be absolutely fine. This isn't a problem. And I think it was because Ryan, there and then, I already told my brain at that point, I wasn't going to give up. I could have just laid there and just thought, that's it. My life's over. I'm finished. But I didn't. Even when my wife came screaming over, crying her eyes out, telling me that she loved me and trying to comfort me, and I had blood pouring down my face, I was going in and out of consciousness, I just kept saying, look, I'll be fine. I knew at that point I would be absolutely fine. I said, I will be okay. And that's what I did all the way through my rehab with the doctors, I just kept telling them they were wrong. Everyone kept telling me, your life's over. Your life is over. It's not going to be the same. And I just said, it will be. I will recover. And the only person that believed me was my son. My son said, dad, if you're going to get better, that's fine. Just get better. You know, I'm here. And we had fun when he used to come and visit me in hospitals when I was paralyzed. From that down, we would carry on as if nothing had happened. Obviously, I'd be lying in bed and couldn't move, but he would still be laughing and having lots of laughter in my life, but everybody else around me was doom and gloom. The doctors were telling my wife that I had to come to terms with being paralyzed and never being able to move again.
All I did was just keep Going in my mind, I will be okay. I will overcome this. I'm not going to give into this. And that's what.
And, Nicholas, tell us what happened then when you. You made the decision that you were going to be okay, that you were going to walk again while everybody else was telling you no, why don't you finish the story for everybody then?
Well, basically.
I started visualizations, very powerful visualizations. I rewired my body where the damage was. I put, if you like, I rewired it with a red cord going from my brain down into my body. I sent white lights going from my brain down into my body to tell my hands to move, my legs to move. I used to be into the gym in a very big way, so I knew how muscles worked. And I would zoom in on. I would close my eyes and visualize my body working. I'd visualize lifting weights. I'd visualize doing strongman competitions. I visualized I was playing golf against Tiger woods, and I could actually visualize. I would close my eyes and I would actually feel my hands and see my hands close around a golf club, and I would hit a golf ball, and I would actually feel myself walking. And obviously, I would beat Tiger woods. And I'd feel elated and happy, and I would just zoom in on all my muscles when I was lifting weights, like a video camera, zooming in and seeing the muscles working. And while I was doing this, I would be sending signals from my brain into down through my body to my arms and legs on this red pop wire past my spinal cord, which was damaged to make things work. And to cut a long story short, Ryan, one night I was visualizing and I dreamt, if you like, I actually left my body behind because I was a prisoner in my body. It was dead. It was no good to me. And I actually dreamt that I went and visited my son and I actually kicked a football, and I actually felt pain in my toe. And when I woke up, when I came back to my body and woke up, I actually had pain in my toe and it started moving. I called the nurses and I could feel my toe. But I was told at the time that someone that's had an injury like me, maybe you would get a bit of feeling back in a finger or a limb, a slight movement. So they weren't too impressed. The doctors weren't too impressed. But at that point, I knew I would recover. And then over the next few months, I kept visualizing. I kept this process going. I kept trying to remember how to walk and to Move. Till eventually, on a Monday morning, I told the nurses that I wanted to stand up out of my wheelchair. And I did stand up, and they were amazed. And I fell back down into my wheelchair again. I stood up, I fell down. I stood up, I fell down. I kept doing it. It wasn't a pretty sight, but I was doing it. And then by the Friday, I actually started walking. I was a bit like Robocop, but I started walking. My arms and legs didn't work, but I started walking, and I promised my son that I would make it home for Christmas. And I made it home for Christmas. And that was the biggest, biggest Christmas present for me and for him and obviously for my wife at the time as well. So complete elation, complete miracle. And when I went back to see the surgeon who operated on me, I told the nurses that I was with, I had to walk in the room to see him. And I walked in to see him. I got off the stretch, they take him in the ambulance, and actually walked into his room, and he collapsed in his chair and said, you are a miracle. He couldn't believe it. He just went, this is impossible. And I said, nothing's impossible. I said, if you really believe it. I said, if you really believe it, you can do anything. I said, and I'm going to continue to heal. The biggest thing for me was I'd lost so much of my health. I'd lost over half my body waste. I looked like a prisoner of war. I looked terrible. But that didn't phase me. I was walking, and I knew I'd recover. The only thing for me, Ryan, was after this event, my wife left me. I just recovered, just got home for Christmas, and then she told me that she didn't love me anymore, she didn't want to be with me, that I wasn't going to see my son anymore because I wasn't a real man. I couldn't be a real father, that it would be better off if I was dead.
And it wasn't until that point that.
I changed. I went from a man that had everything to live for, that kept telling himself that I was going to live, and I can do this, and I will do it against all the odds, to being told by my soulmate and the woman I'd loved and been with for so many years that basically she hated me. And to know that I wasn't going to see my son again. I actually went back to hospital, laid in my hospital bed, and just said, it's time to die. And two days later, I had double pneumonia. So that demonstrates how powerful the mind was. I was there with the will to live, the drive, the determination, everything. Willing myself to live, healing myself, forcing myself on. Until that point, I just went, that's it. And that demonstrates how powerful the mind is, because I just turned off and my body then tried dying, and I was in and out.
Nicholas. I'm sorry. I'm sorry to interrupt. But it is amazing, Nicholas, how we as men can have the drive and determination to overcome something like paralysis. But losing the love of the one person that we desire most can be so soul crushing.
Yes. And it was. And for me as well, you know, it was my soulmate. I felt completely betrayed, but it just wasn't the betrayal of that. It was the thought of never seeing my son again. Because obviously he was my inspiration. Not only my wife, but he was my big inspiration. I had to live for him. I had to keep going. He had to have a father. But as soon as she said, you're never going to see him again, and she actually pulled him from my arms to say, that's it, you're never going to see him, I just thought, what's the point of living? My body's broken. My arms don't work, my hands don't work. I've only just learned to walk. I'm half the weight I used to be. I look like a prisoner of war. I look terrible. And this is just hard work. And I really can't be bothered with the hard work anymore, because as we all know, if you want anything in life, it is hard work, and you have to fight for it. Life can be really tough. Life can keep knocking you down, and you've got to keep getting back up and fighting. But I'd had enough by that stage. I thought, well, that's it. So I had double pneumonia. As I say, I was in hospital for three weeks on antibiotics, and the doctor was trying to treat me, and I just kept trying to die. I didn't want to live. And it was obviously touch and go for quite a while.
But something clicked back in me which just said, for goodness sake, pull yourself together. You will see your son again. You have to fight for him. You can't give it up on him. If she doesn't want me, that's fine. But I cannot give up on my son. And I owe it to myself to live. I have to live. And with that, I pulled myself back together, got back to the hospital I was in. And you got to imagine, Ryan, this was all in a foreign country as well. I didn't have any friends there to support me? They were all back home in England. I didn't even really speak the language very well, so I was completely by myself. It wasn't as if I had visitors every day to help or support me.
Really. I was by myself at this point. So what I had to do was I had to ring up my mother in England when I actually got back out of hospital with pneumonia. And I just said to her, I'm really sorry, Mum, but I'm gonna have to come home, because if I don't come home, I will die. I have to come home. You're gonna have to look after me until I can get myself back on my own two feet. Which, obviously, she welcomed me back with open arms. But she then became my carer for the next few months, along with nurses coming to visit me at home. And I went into mass depression. For three months, I didn't get out of bed. I just cried because my wife kept ringing me up, leaving messages saying, it'd be better if you died. If you were dead, we'd be much better off. And it got to the point, Ryan, where I actually started thinking how I could kill myself, how I could commit suicide but make it look like an accident so that my son could get the insurance money. That's how low I got. I was at the lowest point of my life. You've got to think my legs sort of worked, my body was a mess. I was a completely broken man. I was absolutely at the bottom. But after three months, I just said again, for goodness sake, pull yourself together. You can't let this person beat you down. I can't let life beat me. I've got a lot to live for. I want to see my son grow up. I want to see him get married, and I want to have grandkids, and I've got a lot to offer. So with that, I pulled myself together and I said, that's it. I'm going to start my own rehab. I'm going to get my friends to take me back down the gym, get me in the swimming pool, help me to start walking again and start moving and building my life. But the point was, again, that just as I decided to do that, my throat stopped working. I couldn't eat or drink anymore. They had to take me back to hospital. Just at the point I decided to move on with my life again and get going. And eventually what was found was that my throat had been ripped apart. And for the next seven months, I had to be fed through a tube in my stomach. So I Had to be fed for 16 hours a day through a tube in my stomach, just sitting there doing nothing. It was awful. Until they could really work out what they were going to do with me. And the end result was again, to cut a long story short, where they put a cage in my throat to hold my neck together. It had failed, so I had to have my neck broken and the cage taken out. And the spinal surgeon, the one in England, said to me, this is a highly dangerous operation, I could potentially paralyze you. To which I answered, you won't paralyze me, just fix me and I'll work on my rehab, I'll be fine, just fix me. Which he did. And I also asked him, because the French, we have a little joke with the English and the French, so it's a love hate relationship. When they put my head back on after the initial accident, they'd put it on at an angle so it was slightly to the right. So I would always pull to the right a bit like a car does when one of the wheels is out of tracking. So when I was walking, I'd always pull to the right. So I asked the surgeon if he could put my head back on straight, to which he replied, again, I can do, but not on this operation. And if I do do, potentially I could paralyze you. And I just said, you won't, I'll be absolutely fine. Just do the metal work, fix me and I'll take care of the rest. And that's what happened. I had the operations. Eventually the tube came out of my stomach, my head was put back on straight, and then it was a long road of recovery and rehab, which I had to do basically by myself, with the help of friends getting me in and out of a swimming pool to learn to walk again. And I would spend hours a day in a swimming pool walking or trying to walk up and down and move and doing rehab. And I took it upon myself for the next couple of years to do that with help from family and friends.
No professional physios, but I did it by myself. And what I did was I set myself goals every day. So I would set myself a goal and I would achieve it. And when I was on my way to doing the task for the day, I would visualize myself achieving it and I would tell myself, I can do this, I will do this, I can beat this. And that was my attitude all the way through. So if I was going to walk the length of a swimming pool, I would tell myself, I can, I will do this. And once I achieved it. I would tell myself I'm fantastic, I'm absolutely great. Now let me do it again. And that's what I've lived by, Ryan, for the past several years, which is you have to have a can do attitude. Anything is possible. And my three principles are, now anything's possible. You must never give up. And the power of the mind is absolutely incredible. If you want something in life, you can achieve it. Don't let anyone tell you you can't. Because if I'd have listened to those doctors, I'd be dead. If I'd have listened to my wife, I'd be dead and my son wouldn't have a father. So don't let anyone, don't let anyone tell you that you can't achieve or do anything. But it's what you do. It's how you use your mind. It's your mindset that if you want to achieve something, you can and you will.
Beautiful, Nicholas. Now you have overcome odds that most of us, thankfully, will never have to experience. And I know today you're walking again. You've said, except for like a crink in your neck, no one would ever know that anything had ever gone wrong. Is that correct?
Yeah. When people meet me now, they always say, you've got a bit of a stiff neck. And I always say, yeah, it's broken.
And that's it. But I mean, I look physically, I look very well. I mean, as a person, obviously I'm not very well. I metal from top to bottom. I've got incurable illness, which is something else which I haven't got into. But I get on and I make the most of every day because you're only on this planet for a short while and in an instant anything can happen to you. And that's my purpose of talking to you today, really, Ron, is to say to people, look, I've been through so much in the past several years. I had everything, or I thought I had everything. But when I was lying in a hospital bed, I realized that I hadn't achieved anything in my life, really. Yes, I had a beautiful wife, Yes, I had a fantastic son. And I had some material things, but I hadn't really lived life. I hadn't really achieved what I wanted to in life. And that's why I've decided that I've released this book now to outline my story so it can hopefully inspire people to show that anything is possible using your mind. But I now want to get a message out to people that, look, we all need to be happy in life. We all need to be healthy, we need to be wealthy. And that's what everyone should strive to be. And it's down to you to do it. It's not down to anybody else except yourself. If you want to be happy in life, if you want to be healthy in life, and if you want to be wealthy, then it's down. You can seek guidance and help from mentors, you can go to people to get help and seek advice, but it's down to you got to get off your ass and you've got to decide whether you want to change or not. And that's why I want to help people, inspire people and work with people to prove to them that I overcame paralysis, I overcame massive depression, I overcame a marriage breakup, I overcame huge things which I wouldn't wish on any anybody. But I think if I ask the question to anybody now, if I ask the question to you, Ryan, do you want to be anxiety free? Do you want to be stress free? Do you want to be happy, healthy and wealthy? The answer's got to be yes. And the only way you can now achieve that in your life is decide today. I'm going to change. I've got dreams, desires and goals and I'm going to achieve them. But how am I going to achieve them is always the question. And to achieve them, you've got to be financially free. You've got to have financial abundance in your life, and you've got to take a chance and don't be afraid of failure. Go for it.
Now, Nicholas, you again. You said it looked like you had it all, you had everything. And then you lost all of these things and you almost lost your life. And you said through that process, you said that you really hadn't been fully alive. You really hadn't. You really hadn't gotten what you wanted. Being on the other side of that and being recovered emotionally and physically, what have you found are the things that we as humans really want. Because from the outside.
We often think, especially as men, that we want to arrive at this point that you had. We want to have the wife, the chateau, be retired and do what we want. Then you lost it all. And now you're on the other side and you're saying, wow, I finally get what life is now. So enlighten us, those of us who are still striving for the chateau and the retirement. Enlighten us what it is that you've learned about what's really important in life.
Okay. What I've done is Ron and I go back to what I wrote down was I actually looked at myself as a person. And I wrote down and said to myself, what does being happy really look like? What does it mean to me? Everyone's going to be different. But I wrote down, if I could be happy, what would it look like? What would be my perfect tomorrow be? If I was happy, what would it look like? And I wrote down everything that makes me happy or would make me happy if I could achieve it. I then wrote down what looking healthy would be to me. Now, obviously, my health compared to yours is going to be different, but I wrote that down as well. And I actually put, if I was healthier, how would that make me feel? And the people around me feel? If I was happy, what would that look like? How would that make me feel? Am I really as happy as I could be or want to be? And then I did the same with wealth. And wealth could be many things. It can be financially free, or it can be wealth in love or happiness or joy or a mixture of everything. So I did an exercise where I actually wrote down all of this. And then I tried looking at how would all of this actually make me feel if I had true happiness and health and wealth in my life again, what would it look like? Is it actually having a chateau? It may be to some people. Or is it, in my case, now, being truly. When I wake up every morning, I can say, do you know what? I'm happy because my son's happy. I am happy. I'm making a difference to people's lives. I'm helping inspire people to change their lives. So my perspective is now.
I'm building my life again, but I'm building it to help others this time. It's not just going to be all about me. I know that if I can be happier, healthier and wealthier, if I can have no anxiety or no stress in my life, then that makes me a really good person. And for what I've been through, I think I've been spared. There's obviously a reason I've been spared, and I think it's to help inspire people and help others to realize their full potential, to help them realize what their goals and dreams are, and that they should actually take the chance and go for them. Don't be frightened. Face your fears and go for them. Because if a man can overcome being paralyzed and walk again and do what I'm doing now, then you can achieve anything.
I find it interesting, Nicholas, that after everything that you've been through and all the messages that you've learned and want to Share with people that you still make financial freedom such an important part of living an abundant life. Some people would argue that after, you know, almost losing their life, money isn't important to them anymore. But you still make the case that, that having financial abundance and having financial freedom is a key to being fully alive and living a life that is meaningful. Why do you still keep that as part of your emphasis?
Well, this is the real world, Ryan, isn't it? How do you pay a mortgage? How do you pay rent? How do you become debt free? How do you increase your savings? How do you put your children through college? How do you put food on the table? It's all about money. That's real life. You have to have money to do that. How do you go and visit these amazing countries? Because what I also try and say to people, the world is an amazing place. There is so much to see and do. And when I was lying in my hospital bed, I was lying there thinking, do you know what? I haven't taken my son to China. He hasn't seen the Great Wall of China. Why not? He hasn't been to the pyramids. Why not? I had all the money to do that. I had all the money to travel the world and I didn't take him to certain places, which I should have done because I always kept saying, I'll do that next year, I'll do that next year. I'll do that next year. And then look what happened to me the next year. I was paralyzed. So this is real life. If you want to pay off your debts and have a great life, look after your children or your wife or your partner, enjoy yourselves, enjoy life and go out there and see there is a real world out there. There is something to visit and enjoy. You need finances in your life. You need financial abundance. I'm sorry, but that's the real world and you have to achieve it. If you are in a 9 to 5 job going well, I'm happy, but I'm really struggling to put food on the table and I can't find the rent each month. And I'm full of anxiety and I'm full of stress. Change your life. Stop moaning, get off your ass and do something about it, because you can.
Amen, brother. You're preaching to the choir here. Because, you know, I talk to people all the time who have such these mental blocks around money and as a result have so much limitation around what they can experience in life. And I'm with you when I say there's so much to be experienced and life is not about money. It is about the experiences that we can have. But money is the tool that gets us there. So what do you say to that person that is in that 9 to 5 job that is anxious about money? They're looking at you and they're like, you've overcome the world. I can't even pay my bills. How do you address that person, Nicholas?
Well, all they've got to do is they've actually got to look at their life and say, right, write down what is it you want to achieve. Just write everything down. It doesn't matter how far out it seems there. If you write down that you want to pay off your mortgage and you want to go and visit two or three different countries a year and you want to have a great time, but the most important thing is if you don't want any anxiety or stress in your life and you want to be happy, healthy and wealthy, write it all down and just look at what's stopping you from doing that. And a lot of people then say to me, well, I now want to change. I want to change, Nicholas, and I want to do something. And I say, well, there are massive opportunities out there, but you need to change your mindset. There are huge opportunities out there for you to do something with your life. But people always say to me, but do what? And that's why I say to them, well, come and work with me. Come and join me on my team. Come and, you know, come and go on my Facebook page, read my book, be inspired by my book, read my life story, come and join me at my webpage and have a look and open your mind and take an opportunity and give it a go. What's the worst that can happen? You just stay where you are now or you grow and you go and start visiting different countries in the world and you start achieving your dreams, goals and desires. There's nothing wrong with actually writing down what it is you want to achieve and trying to look to do something to achieve that. Why not? Why wouldn't you want to do that? Why wouldn't you want to be happy, healthy and wealthy? Why wouldn't you want to be anxiety and stress free? Why wouldn't you want to do the best for your children? Why wouldn't you, especially Americans? Because Americans don't seem to get out of America very much. But why wouldn't you want to go and travel all around the world and see what an amazing world we live in? Because trust me, if you get knocked down by a car tomorrow and you spend the next year in hospital, you'll be wishing you'd done it. You'd be wishing that you'd done something now, rather than lying in a hospital bed thinking, how's my wife and my son and my daughter now going to survive while I'm lying in this hospital bed, if only. And that's the biggest thing you mustn't look back on in life is saying if only. Which is why I say to people, again, get up. Research what you're good at. Look at what you're good at. What is it that you are good at? What is it you're passionate about at? Is there something else that you can do in your life to improve your life? Are there people that you can go to and listen to for them to help mentor you and move on? Is there an opportunity out there at this moment in time?
Find those opportunities. If you really want an opportunity in life, they will come knocking on your door. But you've got to identify what those opportunities are and grab them and take them. Don't be frightened. Failure is normal. You learn from your failures. You grow from your failures. I was in hospital, paralyzed. I kept trying to do things and I kept failing. But I didn't give up. You've got to keep moving on. If you fail at something, learn from it. Learn from your mistakes. Move on. You might fail 10, 20, 30 times, but then your you'll make it and then you'll achieve what you really want to achieve in life. And that's why I say to people, come and join me on my website, the unbreakableman.com. read my book the Unbreakable Spirit of the Unbreakable man.
And come and join me on Still Spirit Inc. On my Facebook page. Just come and have a look. And if you can work with me, if I can help you in any which way or form, I will, I'd love to help and inspire people. And I really urge people, if you want to get on in life and you want to have a fantastic life, enjoy yourself, give it a go, go for it. And I'll do my best to help you.
Nicholas There's a lot of people who get stuck on the how.
We've heard a hundred times about writing down what it is that you want. And I tell people that even training your brain to think about.
Writing down the things that you want and being okay with the idea of wanting something more than what you have now, wanting more experiences, wanting more abundance, it's almost a learned skill to be okay wanting something more. But then people get hung up on the how you didn't know how you were gonna walk again. You didn't know how you were gonna get out of your hospital bed. So what gave you. Gregory calls it the stickability. What gave you that hard nosed determination to be focused on something and focus on an end goal without knowing the details of the how? Because that trips people up when they start to build a business or they start a new relationship or they start to try to lose weight, they get stuck in that how or that first roadblock that prevents them from, from going to the next level. What did you do and how do you address people who struggle with those hiccups?
Okay, so if we take me go from being paralyzed, the worst extreme you can possibly be. Number one, you've got to say to yourself, I want to do this. So it's down to you. You've got to be really prepared to change. If you're not prepared to change, don't waste your time or anybody else's time. But if you really want something, if you decide, if you're listening to this now and say to yourself, do you know what? I do want to change my life, but I don't know how to do it. What I suggest is you write down where you are now and where you want to get to, where you want to get to be, and you've got to change your mindset.
How can I get there? I am going to get there. I will get there. And then you need to start looking, well, how am I going to get to my end point? What is it I need to do? What is it I need to change? What are my strengths? What am I good at? Who are the people that can help me? What programs can I listen to? Where can I go for help and advice? Now, for me, I had to do that by myself because I had everybody telling me I couldn't do anything. But I kept telling myself I can and I will. And I think that's something that's very important. Ryan, even if you don't quite know how you're going to get to the end point, which I didn't, to be honest, I had no idea. I just told myself, I will overcome it. I didn't have a clue how, but I would lie in my bed and I would just say, I will overcome this, I can overcome this. How am I going to do it? And it's exactly the same in business. And that's why there are lots of people out there that are happy to mentor people.
There are lots of people that have done things in their lives, and that's where you need to help these people and take their advice. But it is down to you. At the end of the day, Ryan, you've got to say to yourself, this is where I am. This is where I want to get to. How am I going to get there? How am I going to change? How can I improve? What is it I need to do? What are my strengths? And then start writing your plan and it will change. It's not going to be a straight line to the end point. You are going to have hiccups and failures along the way. But as you start trying to change and you start trying to do things differently, opportunities will come your way. You will start having small successes. It won't happen overnight, it won't happen in two or three weeks, but it will start happening. And if you start to make a change now, I can guarantee you in six months time, you'll be at a completely different point to where you are now. But you actually have to decide to change and move forward with your life, but always have the end point in where is it I want to get to and keep moving forward no matter how small the step is. And you'll be amazed that your own inner strength will get you there.
Well, Nicholas, your story is absolutely compelling and it makes me want to say this guy was told he was never going to walk again and he's successful. What's my excuse? What's your excuse? And so I want to thank you for re inspiring me, for reinspiring people who have had desires laying dormant. Congratulations on being where you are and thank you for sharing your story today on Freedom Fast Lane.

Now that, my friends, is an inspiring story. I'm so proud to have featured Nicholas's story here on Freedom Fast Lane, and I hope that it has inspired you and empowered you to live whatever extraordinary life it is that you want to create for yourself. If Nicholas can overcome those odds, then your quest to be financially free or travel the world or whatever the heck it is you want to do seems easy in comparison to what he focused on and achieved, even though he was told that it was absolutely impossible. We believe in producing extraordinary lives and producing what seems impossible. That's what we do as entrepreneurs, as freedom seekers. We're on a path that has never existed before. None of our ancestors had the opportunities that we've had, and we get to play with them. That's all at our disposal. I'm so glad to be on this journey with you, and I consider it a privilege to be sharing these inspiring stories with you. I'd love to hear your thoughts. As always, I'd appreciate your comments@freedomfastlane.com and even more so, I'd love it if you would review this podcast on itunes. It helps us spread our message of freedom. Thanks so much for listening and I will see you at the next episode.
