All right, we need to have a conversation about enjoyment. I am in the middle of recording my audiobook right now, and I just decided to pause because a lot of people have been reaching out to me personally about the podcast that I recorded with Leah. I posted it a couple weeks ago here on the channel where we just went really deep into her business and unlocked a lot of her own mental noise. The reason that I'm able to do that for Leah is because I have gone very deep into my own mental noise over the last several years. And I just feel compelled to tell those of you who listen to my show that this is supposed to be fun. You got into this game because you wanted enjoyment. Fun. Listen, I know you think you want the money. I know you think you want the stuff, and you do, and I hope you get them. You should get them and enjoy them. But the reason you want the money and the stuff is so that you can have a great time, so that you can enjoy the next chapter a little bit more, because you're comfortable, because you're free, because you've got a cool car. And the next chapter becomes a little bit more enjoyable. But you don't really want the car. You want the enjoyment of what will happen when you have it. And there are so many of you who are listening to this, who are doing things in your business that you do not like. You are doing things in your business that do not bring real satisfaction to you. You do them because you've always done them that way. And you. And you built up a pattern because in a previous life, you did something to make money so that you can enjoy it. Now you're stuck in the making money portion of it or stuck in the working part of it, and you have forgotten about why you did it in the first place, which was to have a really good time, which was to have fun. I was having a great conversation with C. Money, my right hand man, Chris, earlier today, where he brought up this point of how, you know, when you're a kid and you don't have any responsibilities, you just play all day, and there's no need for it to mean anything. We just play. And, you know, during that time, our brains are adjusting and growing so much and our. And our synapses are firing and our neurons are wiring to a point where what we consider enjoyable and what we become good at develops in those early stages when we are having fun and when we are playing. And then at some point we learn that we have responsibilities and we have to either shut that off or rewire those circuits in order to make a living. Now, I love money and I love capitalism, but all of those things are routes for me to have a better enjoyment and expression of the life that I have. It just so happens that capitalism is the system and it is the umbrella through which I can play with the most freedom. Because when you are fully locked into what you are good at doing, which is usually what you also enjoy, then things show up to reward you and sustain that. See, most of us think that money is outside of ourselves and in order for us to get the money, we have to carve the route to the money to bring it back to us. That is not what money is. Money is the fuel that we use in order to make good work, to make change, or to make things that are enjoyable sustainable for us. It's a tool, it's neutral, it's not good and it's not bad. It is neutral energy that shows up to where it is needed. Needed for change, needed for enjoy, needed, excuse me, needed for enjoyment or needed to sustain what other people think is good work. That's the purpose of money. And so many of you have something that you want and you are building the thing that you think is the bridge toward what you want, but what you really want is what is on the other side of that bridge. And the weird mind meld of this entire experience of life is that if you put your attention on what it is that you really want, rather than the bridge that you are building, you will get it faster. I have played with this thought, I kid you not, I will literally lay in bed and just think about this thought about like where, where am I selling myself short by pursuing a result rather than doing what is meaningful and enjoyable for myself? And every time that I do that, I usually think of the results that I'm going for, like the number of continuity members I want, or the number of products that I want to sell, or the number followers I want to have, or the number of downloads that I want to have, or the number of the money that I want to raise, or the I think about the end result that is really, it's really all results are just there as a way for me to quantify what I think would be a feeling of freedom. If I have this much in cash flow, then I will feel free for me to express myself, for me to not hold back, for me to give more to my community. But what that means is that what I really want is not the cash flow or the pile of money, but to be liberated enough to share to grow, to give, to communicate from a place that is completely unencumbered, that is completely free from any result in the first place. What we really want is to be expressing or to give, or to grow, or to do the things that we find naturally motivating and. And exciting without the burden of it having to mean anything, without the burden of it having a result, so that the result is actually just an amplifier or just a reflection of how other people are experiencing the thing that we find naturally motivating and exciting. Do you get that? Listen, let me say this slightly differently. Everything that you think that you want is actually just a route for you to practice the joyous expression of whatever it is that you really want. You want the security so that you can relax and do the things that you enjoy. You wish that you could just do the things that you enjoy all the time, but you can't because most of your attention is going on the thing that you think will get you there. But if you just switched the focus from what you think you need to do to build the bridge to what's on the other side of the bridge, it would happen faster because you would have the fuel, you would have the energy, you would have the pull, you would have the creativity to be able to do what was right in front of you now. So, I mean, here's a cheeky example, if you will. I'm in the middle of recording my audiobook. It is such a long process. It's so long and I'm enjoying it, but it's so long, right? And so I had needed to take a break. And as I was taking a break, I was thinking about the fact that I'm just grateful for the fact that I always wanted to write books and for people to care about what I have to say on the Internet. And that. That fact, that gratitude and that excitement of the fact that I'm recording a book that I know is going to impact people's lives and already is, because we've already sold thousands of copies of it just on Amazon. And the fact that I'm recording an audiobook of it right now is just. Is so great. Even though I hate the process. It's so much talking.
And then I realized, and I remembered the fact that we got into this game not for the results of the book or the results of the business, but for the actual creation process, for the fact that I enjoyed writing the book and I am recording the audiobook, even though it's kind of a pain in the rear to read my own book out loud for 18 hours. It won't be an 18 hour book. It's just a lot of editing. And then to remember that there are people that it will impact. That's the win. That's the win. And that inspired me to just fire up the podcast and record this quick episode for you, to remind you that you're in this to have a good time. So if you're not having a good time, and I don't mean like you're doing something right now that is difficult, like recording an audiobook is, I mean, you have been consistently grinding away or you have consistently been pounding pavement in a way that even if you got the result, it wouldn't be worth this grind. If you're in that mode, something is broken and it is that you have prioritized the route instead of the destination. And the destination is the experience and the expression, freedom and fullness and creativity and contribution and collaboration. And when you do that, the world opens up and rewards you in the form of dollars. I firmly believe this is a controversial belief, but I believe the old way of doing capitalism, which is where you do things for money, is an old mindset that is dying because we have abundance now. We have abundant food, we have abundant energy, we have abundant connection, we have abundant information. The things that used to be scarce are no longer scarce. We don't have to try to survive anymore. We try to pay bills, we don't try to survive. We don't try to stay connected, we have to try to connect. We don't try to feed ourselves, we try to keep up with restaurant bills where we, where we overate, we're all fat. We don't have a lack of food. We're all have information overload. We don't have a lack of information. We have abundance. We did it. Yay, humans. We solved most of our challenges and now we have the luxury, the luxury of debating politics on the Internet, because that is our greatest struggle. We have the luxury of watching the news about a pandemic and facing lockdown for months because that's the biggest problem in the world. Now, I've had my own resistance to these challenges. I tell you all of this because we have solved so many challenges, so many problems as a human species that we no longer have need for the old way of capitalism, which means you trade your time and your energy for dollars. You now money shows up to match the energy that you are bringing. So if your energy is depleted, your bank account will also deplete. We are now entering into a new era in which because there is abundance. There is simply an energy match, if you will. If you are creative and creating and excited and creating energy, money shows up to make that sustainable. Because we are now in a creative capitalist society, rather than a I need a C word in order to cutthroat capitalism society. That's why there's still resistance to capitalism, even though it has created all of this abundance. You're in this to have fun. And I do believe that we're entering into a new era in which the fun and the excitement and the collaboration and the creation and the giving and the service is what becomes financially rewarding. That's your job, to think about that. Not to think about what will convert, not to think about what will sell, but to think about what creates energy. Because if it's creating energy, money matches it. I hope these hit you at a time when you really needed this. If so, hit me up on don't do Twitter. Don't go on Twitter. It's a terrible, terrible place. But you can let me know on other social media platforms. All right, back to recording my audiobook. Thanks for listening. Talk to you soon.
