Travis Sago's Secrets To Success and Happiness
11 Dec 2025 · 57 min
Transcript of a keynote presentation by Travis Sago at Ryan Daniel Moran's Freedom Fastlane event (recorded Aug 17, 2016). Ryan introduces Travis and frames him as a mentor; Travis delivers a largely non-technical, mindset-focused talk about detaching personal value from roles/results, shortening entrepreneurial plateaus, and regaining 'mojo' after setbacks using vivid demonstrations and anecdotes. The recording includes audience interaction, props, and examples (purple-hair distinction, sandcastle/beach metaphor, fog-driving exercise).

Hey, everybody. Welcome back to Freedom Fastlane.
We are in the middle of an.
F2L2 binge where we are released recordings that have never been released before from last year's event. And today I want to give you the address that was given by my mentor, Travis Sago. Now, Travis shies away from the big stage, and he did a personal favor to me by gracing our presence, going on stage and delivering this presentation. Now we talk about business in the Q and A. We've previously released our Q and A with Travis. You can look in itunes or@freedomfastlane.com just search for Travis Sago and the Q and A that we did together, where we talked about business and how he plans to make $10 million in the next 12 months. That was biggest takeaway for me, was extremely interesting. Travis has this unbelievable ability to simplify big goals. So when he says something like, I plan to make $10 million in the next year with no more than five people and not getting stressed out about.
It, I want to hear about that.
So we talk about that in a previously released podcast where we sat down and chatted after this, this keynote. But this is the actual presentation that Travis gave me. And it's very little about business. It's instead about the noise between your ears. And Travis talks about being disconnected from the end result, being true to yourself, and really analyzing what he thinks is the reason why I have been successful, why so many other people have been successful. And he says it's because of this detachment from the end result and being true to what it is that you believe in and what you want to do in the world.
Travis.
Every time Travis talks, I get wiser and smarter. So I encourage you to listen to the entire speech from Travis because I relish every second with the man. He might be the wisest person that I know, and he has taught me, he and Mark Jenny have taught me more about life and more about business than any other people alive. And. And so it's my pleasure and my privilege to allow you to listen to this talk from Travis Sako. And please come join us for this December's Freedom Fast Lane live in Austin. It's December 9th, 10th and 11th, the JW Marriott. It's going to be spectacular. So if you're getting value out of this binge series, get your butt to Austin. Tickets go on sale at the end of September. If you're on the newsletter, you got an early bird link. If you're not, then you can wait till the end of September or go sign up to Get a ticket now. All right. Enjoy this presentation from the most amazing man alive, perhaps Travis Sago.
Can you say hi, Esther?
Hi, Pete.
Hi.
Fascinators.
That's Esther's voice. We're working on it.
Hello.
So do you want to introduce Uncle Travis?
I'll let you do it, dad. All right.
That's cool. So Esther loves new faces, and I figured, oh, she's never seen 400 faces at a time. So she's in her glory right now and would love to meet all of you later. So she'll be around.
Oh, they're applauding for you, Esther.
Oh, indians.
I recently on a webinar, you know, everybody's a critic. I was doing a webinar recently, and I had a picture of this beautiful girl right here, and I called her my little Ivanka. And.
I didn't even think anything of it. I was like, that's my little Ivanka. And somebody was like, you racist jerk.
Can't believe it.
I was like, what?
I can't believe you're a Trump supporter.
What?
I called my daughter little Ivanka. Everybody's a critic. I thought that would get more laughs. Now I'm embarrassed.
So.
Travis Sago is the reason I'm a millionaire.
He is also the first person I.
Call when I just need to get.
Snapped out of a funk. There are a few people in this world that if the apocalypse was happening and I had to get everybody in a bomb shelter, Travis. I'm probably calling first because he's going to be the one that talks me through it.
Travis has given me probably more distinctions to my life that have been useful for me. And I want to go through, really, a couple of the gifts that he has given me over the years that we've been friends. One, I call the purple hair distinction. One time I was telling Travis that I was feeling really down about a part of my life and that when people criticize it or brought it up, that it really bothered me. And he said, dude, do you know why it bothers you? And I said, tell me. He said, because part of you believes it. He said if somebody looked at you in the face, said, you got purple hair, he'd be like, what? But if they say something, that's my microphone, Esther. You can have one when you're old enough.
And he said, but if some part of you believes the piece of criticism, that that's the only reason why you respond to it. It has nothing to do with what they said. It has everything to do what you believe. So you don't have that other person to blame because it's actually a belief that's resonating with you. And I was like, whoa.
So all the emotions that I feel are my responsibility, not everybody else's. That was a huge distinction for me. Another great gift that Travis gave me was the book Straight Line Leadership.
Maybe the best book I've ever read. I'm going through it for the third time right now. I've never read a book three times, and I've read this one three times in less than a year. Phenomenal book.
The next gift that Travis has given me has been simplicity.
Raise your hand if you have ever experienced this, where you come up with an idea and then you start to war game it out in your journal or your whiteboard or your thoughts. And it's the most complex piece of work you've ever thought up and you're excited about it, but you realize it's the most complex thing ever. Anybody else experience that? Yeah, everybody. I can call Travis in about five minutes. He goes, why don't you stop doing this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, and this, and you do this instead. And I go, oh, it's sitting right in front of me. So it's actually not a three year plan. I can actually start working this on Monday. He has this incredible gift to just distill down into what's and strip out all the rest. Today he's going to be sharing some of these distinctions with you. He's also going to be sharing what's working in his business right now. And he's going to be sharing how do we get and keep our entrepreneurial mojo. It is an honor for me because I feel like this is a tremendous gift to give all of you to introduce Travis Sago.
Well, hello.
I'm Arkansas redneck Jesse Elder.
I got the cable. Yeah.
I've got the hair, but I can't do the splits.
How are you?
I am happy to see you, but this is just a rocket in my pocket.
I'm a kid at heart. I still like toys and I love props.
I have another one, see if I can find it here.
Uh.
Oh.
Thank you.
You kind of ruined my gig though. It was going to be like I pulled it out of my ass.
So we've got a couple props and I love that my rocket's bigger than a plane. But for right now, so I don't.
Poke my eye out, I probably should set these down.
I hope somebody won't sit on that. My wife Jeannie would get really, really.
Mad if somebody sat on My rocket.
So my real name is Travis Sago. I am still kind of Arkansas redneck Travis Sago.
My topic is.
Oh, shit.
It's like the worst thing that could happen to a speaker.
You forget your topic.
Feeling all nervous now. You guys mind if I sit down for a minute and kind of compose myself?
Oh, crap.
This is not what's supposed to happen.
You guys look mean, too.
What can y' all be thinking of me? Oh, my God.
Yeah, my teacher was right.
I grew up to be a loser.
Hang on a second. I'm really feeling kind of woozy here.
Damn you, Ryan Daniel Moran.
I was supposed to go before Gary Vaynerchuk.
He's got all this energy and he's so sure of himself. And I'm laying here on the ground. Oh, my God.
And then after Pat Flynn, he's so damn smart.
Shit.
Damn you, Ryan Daniel Moran.
Well.
I don't know, you know, at.
Least I'm gonna probably be better than that Robert Herjavec dude.
Yeah.
I'm gonna wipe the floor with him. That's pretty good shit.
I'll be way better than that guy.
Who the hell is that Robert Herjavec dude?
You know, I'm gonna be okay anyways.
I'm gonna be all right.
Yeah, I think I'm remembering now. Cool. You guys don't look so scary.
I see a lot of smiles.
Your face. I'm probably going to be just fine.
And what was my topic about?
Don't sit on the rocket. Don't sit on the rocket. That would be a good one. You know, and to add insult to injury, Ryan's already told my purple hair story, so I'm just like, what the hell? Now I don't know what I'm going to talk to you about, but screw it, I'm just going to get up and do it.
What? No applause?
Thank you.
My name is Travis Sago, and my topic is how to get your mojo back after a setback. I really consider just, like, spending the whole time laying on the ground. Probably that would have made a really, really big impact on you.
Maybe it would have. Maybe you just left and went to the bathroom.
I don't know.
But.
I don't want to give you, like, 10 tips and 10 different strategies and 10, you know, the seven step blueprint. Matter of fact, I don't even want you guys to take notes. I really kind of want to get you a perception shift.
But have you all heard the saying that a picture is worth a thousand words?
I have a saying that a demonstration is worth a thousand pictures. So I'm better at one on one conversations. This is kind of new for me so I'm going to need a lot of your help.
That's why I brought my props too, so I have something to lean on.
So we're talking here today about getting to the next level. How do we get to the 10 million dollar level? The 100 million dollar level? Let me pull my prop up here.
And I had to practice this a lot.
So it'd be really great.
If we could start this process and it would be.
A straight up process. That would be really cool. How many of you guys think that's the way it's going to happen for you?
Well, that's good. So I'm going to be giving the right topic maybe because everybody else can just leave the room there. That isn't the way it happened for me. It's not the way it's happened for Ryan. Even though from the outside you see this young kid and all of a sudden it seems like he's just like.
Straight up in the air. But what we're going to be doing today.
Is our trajectory is more like the plane. Let me make sure I got this. So we're left to right. Ok? Left to right. And you've got to help me here a little bit. We're going to practice here some things for a little bit. But first.
Most of our trajectories are something like this. We start taking off. It doesn't matter if it's money, relationships, what it is, but let's just use money because that sounds good. So we get to the 100,000 level, the $200,000 level. We start winding out.
Then we start going down, up. Million dollar level, million dollar level. Down, up.
What we're going to be talking about today. Oh, or we crash, right? We'll call it a soft landing. Right?
We'll use our power of words and call that a soft landing.
How long you stay down there.
And get back up like me being down on the ground. That's what we're going to be talking about today. We. What is it? What makes our. I'm going to get my exercise today. What makes our plateau so damn long? What takes us when we start heading down, when we crash or when we land? Why do we sit there for so long? That's what we're going to be talking about, what I'm going to be talking about. Hopefully you guys will be following along with me.
So.
I'll tell you a story, a short story about Ryan. I think it was the first or second time he came out to the house. This is around the purple hair story. We're sitting playing some cards. Me, Jeannie, we're just sitting there playing some cards. It's really quiet, really peaceful and in a low because Ryan's from Ohio. I'm from actually California and Arkansas. So he's from the north, I'm kind of from the south. And we're sitting there, it's really, really quiet. We're in between. Lowell's trying to figure out what we're going to do with the cards, looking at our hands. And he's all, Travis. Like, he asks all his questions. He asks a million questions. He's all.
Do you play cornhole?
And I'm like, what the. Ryan, what in the hell? And as soon as he saw my reaction, he knew that, oh, my God, I said something horribly, horribly wrong.
Cornhole, obviously, is baggo, which now I play like a cornhole master now, but just a bad game, a tossed bag game that you put in there. But when he used to come out with me, he was already doing pretty well. He was making more than his professor in college when he came out.
But he had a lot of plateaus and hopefully you won't mind me sharing, but some dips and maybe even a few soft landings, that happened to him. But.
We made a shift. And of course, I take credit for all his success. He just gives me a little bit. I take all his credit, but he made a shift. One thing, and it's the thing that I want to get across to you today about how to make your plateau shorter, how to get back up, but just one shift.
And that's the shift I want to give to you.
Just so you know a little bit about me. I won't go into big, long detail, but most of what I do for entrepreneurs in my mastermind is most people come to me. They don't ever come to me.
When their business is like that. I'm useless to them when their business is going. Like, sometimes I'll get people when their business is going like this, but many times when they come to me, their business is going. Is going down. So I call it working on the car and driver.
The driver is the most important, but the shift I saw Ryan make is the shift that kind of took him off on this trajectory that he's in now. And of course, that doesn't mean he won't hit another plateau, but I'm willing to bet his plateaus will be shorter. But rather than just tell you I'm not trying to tease you.
I need your help for this. So.
I'm from Arkansas. Anybody from here from Arkansas?
See, my wife's not going to admit to it.
But we have Arkansas Razorbacks. I'm not a big sports guy, but we have this calling that we do.
It's woo.
Pig suey.
Now, I'm not going to make you say the pig suey part.
Because only us rednecks really think that's pretty cool. But I want to kind of gauge your feelings on something.
And so kind of put your imagination on your heart or your feelings, wherever you feel your feelings at. And we're just going to use numbers. What I'd like you to do is kind of like shout out as I run some numbers if you feel a little bit of energy.
If you feel a lot of energy. Woo. Make it louder. If you run out of breath, that's okay. Just come back. Woo. Woo, woo. That'd be cool if we could do that. This would be way more impactful. Okay, so we start out. We start our business out.
There we go. We're at 100,000. 200,000.
Yeah.
Oh, my God, you guys are awesome.
Oh, the power. I feel.
Awesome. That's great. So we're probably going to come back to that again.
But you notice how your feelings kind of energize and rev up and we can again. This is not just about money. I'm going to try to do this impromptu, but. So we meet a handsome fellow, right? We meet a handsome fella. Hi. We go on that first date.
Yeah. He calls you back.
Then you find some texts from another girl on a cell phone.
Yeah. Then you come back, maybe engagement, married, Starts leaving the cap off the toothpaste, doesn't take out the tr.
So this is for money, but it's also for whatever. Relationships, health, helps you shorten down the plateaus. But the reason I'm doing this, the reason I'm teasing you and I'm being a little bit unfair, because I'm kind of directing you and I'm kind of leading you unfairly.
But let's go back to the money.
What does it really mean about you? What does it really mean about your value?
If your plane is here.
Here, here, or just torpedoes, what does that really mean about your value?
And just somebody shout a. Absolutely nothing doesn't mean anything about your value. We kind of understand this when it comes to our kids, right? Our kid brings home maybe a bad grade or a bad report card and.
We have a real easy time separating what they've done their Behavior from who they are. By the way, you're so friendly. I'm just going to eyeball you in the beard right there. You make me feel good.
We have a really easy time doing that. And so the secret, if you want to call it a secret, I like secrets because I just, like in the transformation process, make it sound so much more interesting. But the whole time I'm up here, I'm going to spend my time talking to you about.
Separating what I call your human life value.
And your role. Because very often.
What causes all the plateaus doesn't cause the plateaus. It causes us to stay in plateaus and to stay when we crash causes us to not get back up is the merging, the combining.
Of our role.
With our value, our human life value. And I'll just call it value. But I might come back and say human life value, just to shorten things up and make everything easier for everybody. Let's just call it value.
But very often we merge.
Combine. We don't realize that our role is completely separate from our value.
If our kid brings home a D or F on the report card, we.
Don'T say, oh, you're worthless.
We say, oh, you got to try harder. You got to work harder. You can do it.
But when it comes to us, when it comes to viewing ourselves, we can be really hard on ourselves. And it's really like we're hard on ourselves. We just. We're merging these that we're merging our value together. So when our sales numbers are up, we're like, hee haw, I'm awesome. I am freaking awesome. And then we start leveling out. We can still be awesome for a little while.
They level out too long. Then we start BSing ourselves. Say, hey, we're just resting for a long time. We're just resting.
But when our numbers start going down, then we feel like our value starts going down.
And we're like, holy shit.
So let's just put a number on it because it's easier. We're kind of like numbers people.
Your plateaus will be shorter. You'll get up faster. When you start experiencing that, your value is always a 10.
When you understand that your value is always a 10.
You can pick up that phone and call that big client that you want to do a bigger investment with you, or call that new client.
And you'll have your mojo because it won't reflect on your value.
Whether they say yes or no. Is it easier or harder when you. When you don't need the deal to get the deal easier or Harder, Much easier.
Is this making sense so far?
So I'm not going to run into five other tips. I just want to look at this in different ways.
Demonstrations worth.
Thousand words. So I've got some more things for you to play along with. Let's look at some of the ways when we merge, when we forget that our value never changes, our value is always a 10.
One of the things I notice when people come to me is they're freaking exhausted.
They're not just like tired from getting a good workout in, they're mentally exhausted. My wife was just talking about this and so I'm not going to steal this from her, but she called it a soul exhaustion. I don't think your soul really gets exhausted, but it kind of goes to the feeling. So why do we get so tired if we're merging our value.
With our role?
And we're only if our number is going to. If the way we're feeling and our number is going, okay, so today I feel like I'm a 10 value, then I'm at a 5, then I'm at a 3.
And we project a role out there so we always feel valuable. But that takes a lot of energy.
To do most of our energy. If we combine role.
And our value, most of our energy is just keeping up the damn facade that you are a great business person or that you are a good mom or that you are a wonderful spouse.
When you can let go of that and understand it's a role, it doesn't suck away your opportunity to improve. But just understanding that your value is the same, you can act so much more powerful. You're going to have so much more energy because you're not trying to protect.
You'Re not spending a whole lot of your energy.
Building this wall so everybody sees you a certain way.
So we might swing back to energy. But let's talk about money. Because for a lot of us, for a big reason why money seems to be so important to us, because a lot of us merge who we are with how much money we have, right?
And.
Like other speakers are saying, it never stops.
Even becomes more dangerous. Your plateaus become longer. And ask me how I know this.
Thank you. See, that's why I like you.
I got to the million dollar a year level and it's like, oh.
Cool, look, I'm at the million dollar a year level.
This is pretty awesome, right?
But then you start not taking risks because why? Because you don't want to affect what you've already have. It's like, ooh, I'm going to play it. I'm going to play it safe. Because somehow this million dollar year level is telling me something about my value, right? So I don't want to lose value. Holy crap. That would be not good.
When we're merged together, if we separate, though, it's like, oh, it's just another thing.
Just another thing. Doesn't mean anything about us. Likewise, it keeps us more powerful. When our plane starts to dip down, it's like, okay, doesn't mean anything about my value. I'll just pick up the phone, I'll make a call, and we're gonna get. I think when Ryan and I sit down, we're gonna actually do like real business tips. But I wanted you to really get this here.
The big change I saw in Ryan that I'm taking all the credit for and why his rocket ship is he disengaged his identity.
About how much money he had, meaning absolutely any God dang thing about him. And you see a whole new power come out, a whole new aggressiveness, a whole new playing to win instead of playing not to lose.
So that's what I'm going to say on money. But now I want to really get the real big distinction. So let's use a little demonstration here.
How many of you guys raise your right hand if you've driven in the fog before?
Awesome. Hopefully, everybody keep it raised. Keep your right hand raised. How many got to where you're going successfully while you're driving in the fog? Raise your left hand.
Awesome. So now you put your hands down. If you get tired, that means you have everything you need to know to get to the next.
Level.
And you're probably like, oh, shit, No, I don't.
So one of the big things that I notice with people entrepreneurs when they're missing these two together.
Is they cling to certainty.
They grasp it, they hold it like a teddy bear, and they don't want to let go of that certainty.
Which is exactly the opposite way of how we really get stuff done when we're in a clear mindset. Why can we drive in the fog? We can't see 150ft in front of us.
But we still get there. How in the hell do we do that?
We just go. We are careful. We look where we're going, look at the lines, but we still get there. We don't need to see a mile ahead of us.
We just have to see a little bit ahead of us, still be cautious. Right. Because it is hard to see. But what's the worst thing you can do when you're driving in fog, there's a couple of bad things you could do. But what's the worst thing you could do when you're driving in the fog? Somebody shout it out. Yes, I hear it. Stop. Right? What happens if you stop in the fog?
Yeah, my wife's embarrassed right now. She's like, ah, can't believe you did that.
But.
I'm just as a side point. But.
When you understand that your value is not connected to your role, you also start understanding other people's value. It's not connected to your role. I look out at all of you and I see this. You're all tens.
You're all tens to me.
It also helps you in business if you see all your employees as tens, if you see all your customers as tens, if you see all your competition as tens, the way you treat them and the way you act towards them to be way different than if you have disdain for your customers. I was just talking to an Internet marketer the other day. I won't mention any names. He's all, travis, can't help it. But every. Every time I get into a niche or get involved, I start having disdain for my customers. That told me I did not want to work with that guy. And I cut that conversation off. But I said, dude, that's funny, because I fall in love with my customers when I work with them. I fall in love with them. I'm kind of getting off track here. We were uncertainty.
We become addicted to the how to when. What we really need is just to choose. We just need to choose that we're going to go. We need to choose if we're heading off to target again. Humans have this amazing capability to get from point A to point B. But when we start, when we don't have our value wrapped up in our role, we have this incredible power. Right when we're driving through the fog, we don't say, oh, if I don't make it, if I don't make it, It's. It means something about me. I'm a horrible driver. I'm a worthless. I'm a loser. Right? We just have the faith that we know that we're going to get there. It doesn't have the same thing with the go to target. We just get in the car, we strap our seat belt on. Yeah, we're cautious, but we take off to target. But very often in business, what happens is say, hey, I want to come up with a new product or I want to get a new customer. Let's just go say, we're going to target, right? So. Okay, so. So the first thing I need is I don't need just one GPS to get the target. Give me five GPSs, and I need five instruction manuals, and I need to get a coach. So I know every single step to get there. It's like trying to get to target and saying, I'm not going to leave the house until I know every single light's going to be green. I know there's going to be no detours and everything's going to be a perfect ride. We just never get there.
We.
Cling to that certainty. Do you see how it kind of sucks your mojo out? You can just choose.
If I want to launch a new product, what do I need to launch a new product? I need to know if somebody's going to buy the damn thing.
So rather than mapping it out and putting it in development for a year, pick up the phone and likely just call my.
Call a customer and start up a conversation with what he needs, what his pain points are, what his challenges are, and then ask him if he wants to buy it. So I'll give you a really good example. So when I started the Mojo Mastermind, I had a pretty good idea who I wanted to invite in a family man, a family woman that.
Be interested in the new stuff, but really had to have a stable business, not something that's going to go away five years or ten years from now because they have college educations to pay for and they have retirements to fund and mortgages, and they need a stable business.
And I knew a few people like that. But I was kind of confused on what exactly am I bringing to the table? What exactly? Is there a problem? How do I put it into one word or a sentence? So I called a colleague of mine. We knew each other. We weren't great friends or anything. And actually, I Skype messaged him and said, bob, I was wondering if I could get your advice. And people love to give advice. He said, absolutely, you can get my advice. Would you mind jumping on the phone with me for 15 or 20 minutes? I've got something. I'm starting up new. I'm not going to try to sell you anything, but you're like the perfect, perfect person I think would be in there. And I'm having trouble coming up with some of the challenges that you have. He said, oh, absolutely, I'd love to do it. So we get on the phone, I said, bob, here's some of the challenges I think you might be having. He's like, oh, dude, you're really right on. I'm like, thank you. Thank you for that. Would you mind just tell me some other challenges that you have?
And of course, I keep them talking. And I had three pages of notes by the time we were done. And we summed it up down to basically one word. He said, you totally nailed it. It's kind of a side point, but he just wanted more control, right? He wanted more control. When your business is all over the place doing loop de loops, you feel like you're out of control. The big thing is he just wanted more control. But after it turned out to be about a 30 minute conversation, him talking nothing about his challenges, his problems, his pains, how it affected his family, how it affected his money, how it affected him.
You think he was open for some change. So at the end, there was no ulterior motive. But I said, bob, if I made you a really special deal, would you be interested in joining the Mastermind?
He said, damn right.
And that was my first customer.
In 24 hours.
So you can really shorten the path when you're not clean to certainty. It's more a matter of choose to. You don't. I'm not saying there's not a place and a time for all the how tos, but very often we get stuck. What Dusan Jukic calls sawing sawdust.
We put a funnel in with an Autoresponder and a WordPress and this and a that, and we don't even know if anybody really wants to buy it. What we really want is a customer. So cut out all that stuff in between and just get to it. It's so much easier to do. Why don't we do it? Because we're afraid they're going to say no. They're afraid our value's going to go down. Right? But when we know we're a 10, our value's a 10.
We kind of lose that fear, right?
So this might be a good point. Thank you, Gary Vaynerchuk for this. What do you think Gary Vaynerchuk's value level is if you guys were here yesterday? Yeah, 100, right? He knows. Whatever the hell happens to me, I'm still a damn 10. Yeah. Burn my business. Now that's going to be good for me.
It ain't affecting me.
Y' all getting that?
Y'?
All. I'm trying to.
So certainty. Think about how you drive in the fog. Think about how you do, you guys. If you raised a kid, you can build as big a business as you want as you want. I'm not saying 100 million or 10 million or whatever, but you can build as big as business as you want, wherever that point B is. If you can raise a kid, good Lord. It's like, oh, I'm not going to have this kid. I'm not going to have. You know, if.
Pam raises Ryan's girl, had Esther and said, well, I'm not going to have her until I know that she's going to grow up. Right? You know, she's going to be smart. I mean, she'd still be in the womb. Right?
The other thing that really happens to us.
We kind of talk about this, kind of goes around security.
As we cling to certainty, we also cling to security. We want to be secure.
And we shirk away from growth. And I call. I call this a return to the womb. We get these plateaus.
Hit these plateaus. It's like, oh, yeah, I'm awesome, I'm awesome. I'm awesome. I'm taking a break, I'm taking a break, taking a break.
We stop growing, and then we hit something I call the rumble strip of life.
What's the rumble strip? It's like on the highway, right when you hit that rumble strip, it's like.
So that plateau, we hit that rumble strip, and it doesn't feel good. And I don't care what you do to try to calm down or relieve your anxiety. Try meditating while you're driving on the rumble strip.
Why is this damn meditation not working?
And I don't want you to grow because I'm telling you to grow. I don't want you to grow because Ryan Daniel Moran is telling you to grow. I want you to grow because a book tells you to grow. What I'd like you to do is.
Consider.
Keeping on growing.
Because it's nature's way, and it doesn't feel good when you stop growing.
If you look out in nature, you plant an acorn.
It grows into an oak tree. It just grows, and then the seasons change, the leaves fall off, it goes through transformation. And even though it may look like the tree stops growing on the top, usually the roots keep growing. It gets bigger and longer, and it gets stronger.
And an interesting thing to note is. So you put an acorn in the ground.
What'S the value of that acorn?
0 to 10.
It's a 10, right? Acorn goes in the ground, it's a value of 10. When it grows up to be a little sapling, a stalk, what's its value then? Still a 10, right? Grows up to Be a big oak tree.
Still a 10.
Same way with baby.
In the womb.
And even babies have the innate wisdom to know that in nine months you're supposed to crawl out of the womb.
But adults seem to want to crawl back into the womb all the time. Oh, get me back to my safe, warm comfort spot.
What's the value of a baby? 0 to 10. A 10. Right. What's the value of a toddler? 0 to 10. Still a 10.
Adolescent? That's questionable.
But we'll say a 10.
And then adult 10, right? So.
With that said, growth is still part of Mother Nature's path.
When you hinder your growth, when you try to crawl back up into the womb, it feels nice and warm and comfortable at first.
But then it becomes.
Constricting and stuffy and humid.
Right? And mama don't like it much either. Mother Nature doesn't like it much either, and she wants to kick you back out. So it starts getting violent in there because you've been in there way over the time you're supposed to be in there. So what I'm asking you to consider.
Is to keep growing, because that's what feels good. That's what we're Mother in Nature intended, not because some book told you.
So. I just want to take a couple examples and see if I can drive some stuff home here.
Sorry, I'm looking at my watch. It's really rude. I forget there's a little clock right there. I'm trying to be very, very punctual.
Let's do something different. Let's see if you guys are really getting this. You guys ready for a little pop quiz? Okay, cool. Let's see if you're really getting this. So I'm going to take out 100 bucks.
Who wants this?
Somebody's getting it.
Yes. Thank you. Awesome. No, no, you take it.
So what happened in there? Now, obviously, I wish I could transform you just in like, five minutes or the time that I've been up here, Right? But remember that.
Raising your hand saying, you want it? All that stuff is all the stuff in between.
We don't worry about our value. We don't worry about, oh, was everybody going to think if I got out of my chair and run up there? I don't know, maybe you got a bad back or whatever. Who knows? Or maybe the 100 bucks just was like, oh, screw that. It's like, maybe you should have offered more, you cheap bastard.
But yeah, so good. So some of you guys are totally getting that. Let's talk about some symptoms that I see when people come to me so maybe they can break through for you.
How many guys, when you go to work or when you're working.
Have this little chatter in your mind or maybe feeling in your stomach, it's like, oh, I should be spending more time with my wife or husband or family. Does that happen to anybody?
Just raise your right hand if that happens to you. And again, your value is not going to change if you raise your hand.
Keep it up. Now here's the interesting thing. So it's, oh, we should be really spending more time with Jeannie, or I should really spend more time with Eric.
As I'm working, right?
And then we go spend time with Jeannie. Keep your hand up. Go spend time with our family. And what happens?
Should be working, right? How many did that happen to? Right? So we never get any rest, right? Why is that? Because we're merging our value with our role. It's like as soon as we take time off work, we feel like our value, our role, is dropping there. We feel like our value is dropping. So we can never find any mojo. We can never find any peace. When you separate those, it allows you to make more powerful choices and distinctions and live with more power, more action, and not avoid growth.
I'll bring Gary Vaynerchuk up again. It's like, you know, I don't care my business, you know, come on. I mean, you're gonna have a gulp moment for sure. Just like I tell my people, it's like, you know, if the Internet exploded and everything went away, I'd gulp, but I'd be back. I mean, it's really just more about. It's about your ability and understanding. And we'll probably talk about this when Ryan comes down here. It's about building your audience, understanding what they want, and just getting back into action really quickly.
I had a gentleman come out to my house.
For the weekend. We call it a Mojo money workshop. The money is the part to lure them in so we can really talk about what they really need, which is the mindset and separating the value. But he come out and he's a great guy. A 10 total, 10 in value, like everybody is. But he's so not feeling that way. And his business is kind of. I won't say where it was, but we come out, made these big shifts. He's only got a 700 person list. He's got like 1000 people following him on Facebook, which is pretty good on his personal page. But he leaves the weekend and he's, you know, I can just tell his Whole energy level's on another level. He's seen something different.
He's not afraid to take the action, go out there, do what he needs to do, because he realizes not an affront to his value. So the first week after he leaves my house, he gets sick. I don't know. I don't know if he caught something on the plane or something. You know, I'm a pretty practical guy, but I do notice, oh, my God, he's going to make me sick. But sometimes when our energy level shifts so hard, like, stuff boils out.
But after that.
Started closing deals. He just made a Facebook post in the Mojo masterminds closed $107,000 worth of deals in about two weeks. Since he left my house, about a week of that, he was sick and nothing's really changed. I didn't give him any new how to information. I gave him some things he could do to cut out a lot of stuff that he was doing. But basically what it boils down to is he realizes value. I can just reach out. Here's some people I can help. Who can I help? Who has a problem? Who can I help? Let's reach out. Let's talk to him. Let's get something going. Let's ask. Let's solve a big problem. Ask for a big price, right? Because if your value's not tied to your money, you don't have a problem saying, yeah, this is 30 grand, this is 50 grand.
You're not like, oh, my gosh, I'm not worth that because your value's always a 10.
So.
I've been kind of a little bit bumbly, which is just me. And usually I'm more used to conversations one on one.
And so I have something to feed more. Back off. Except for this guy. We should talk later.
But I want to kind of leave you with something that I practice over and over and over on Jeanne. So I don't know if it's going to come across right, but hopefully, well, she laughs at everything that I do, which I love her for that, but it's not a good gauge, right? It's like I'm always out of 10 in her eyes, too. It's like, okay, that's great. I don't know how it's really going to play out. So I want you to do one last exercise with me.
I want you to pretend that you're out on the beach, but you're not a human.
Yeah, you're out on the beach. You're not a human. You're a sandcastle.
Just imagine It's a beautiful day. It's warm like it is here in Austin. But the sun's out 70, 80 degrees. It's perfect. The water is blue.
Like you can see all this is a sand castle. But don't look behind the curtain.
And you have some kid building you. I'm going to play along with you. So I've got some kid building me. He looks kind of like Charlie Brown. And at first he's building me.
I'm like, oh, this is pretty cool. This is nice.
But then I was like, you know, this sand seems kind of dry. I'm wondering, it's like, kid, are you sure we're not too far back from the water? Because.
We may not last long with all this dry sand. Then he starts packing on more sand. It's a little bit more moist. I'm like, oh, maybe I'm too or too close to the water. Oh, dude, I'm worried now. Are we too close to the water? A wave could come across at any time and wipe me out. So I've got all this anxiety going on about if I'm too far away or too close to the water.
And then what's that over to the left?
What is that?
A Gary Vaynerchuk castle.
Holy shit.
He's got light coming out of his turrets. And it's all shiny and better than mine.
That moving.
Gate drop. Thank you. God bless you guys. That helped me out of my bumbling, this moving drawbridges action and everything. I just, Come on, kid. I'm just like sitting here. It's like, oh, crap, what's that? That's the Pat Flynn sandcastle. Oh my God. It's all smart and everything.
Got all this intricate.
Crown work. And I look at me, it's like, whoa, why, why am I boob shaped? I'm just like this big.
Then there's that Robert Herjavec dude sandcastle. He's got a moat and sharks circling around.
Where's my sharks?
So I'm really chastising, kid, you gotta do better. Come on, come on.
Do something.
And so a lot of work goes in. A lot of worry, a lot of anxiety, a lot of comparing myself to the Gary Vaynerchuk sandcastle, the Ryan Daniel Moran handsome sandcastle.
In all these different sandcastles.
And then what do I see?
Oh, damn, that's a big ass wave.
Holy crap, this is going to wipe me out.
I'm gone.
And at first I'm like, oh, my God.
Oh my God.
Who am I now?
This is like akin to our Business being wiped away.
Right? A divorce. Who am I now?
But then, like I was laying on the floor there, I realized.
I'm still okay.
And if I'm still thinking.
My sandcastle is there.
I can't be the sandcastle.
God damn, I'm the beach.
My name is Travis Sago.
On my tombstone, I want my epitaph to read, made the light come on.
It's been my honor and privilege to come speak to you. I hope I've helped that happen on a small level for some of you, on a big level for others of you. And thank you very much.
You have heard from Gary Vaynerchuk. You have heard from Mark. Jenny, you have heard from Travis Sago. You have heard from Jamie Masters. What you haven't heard is everyone who was at the event saying, you have no idea the impact that all this is making on me. The other thing you did not hear was all of the connections and relationships that were built at the event. You also haven't heard all of the keynotes. We've decided to keep some of them private. You haven't heard all the business dealings that happened in the back of the room. You haven't heard the conversations that occur over dinner and the relationships that are built and the connections that are made. You haven't heard the funny things people say after they have a couple of drinks. But you will hear them when you come to Austin, Texas this December for Freedom Fastland Live 2016. I want you there. That's why we're doing this binge, because I know that when you hear some of what happened last year, you're gonna want to come this December. This year we've got Peter Diamandis, the founder of Whole Foods, John Mackey, Alicia Silverstone, Sean Stevenson, billionaire Jesse Itzler, the hilarious JP Sears, Cameron Herald, Mike Dillard. The list goes on and on. We're doing an investors roundtable. We're doing a roundtable of people who have built hundred million dollar businesses. It's going to be spectacular. It's going to be the highest level group that has ever been assembled on stage. And I want you there. Tickets go on sale at the end of September. If you're on the freedomfastlane.com newsletter, you got an early bird link, but that closes at the end of August. If you hear this after then, you can wait until tickets go on sale publicly or you can go into your inbox and maybe find a link there. All right, cool. Look, there's more coming, but I hope you've enjoyed this binge so far. If you're finding value in it, share it with somebody who you know would appreciate it. And I will see you this December at Freedom Fast Lane Live.
