Hey, fastlaners, this is Ryan Daniel Moran. Welcome to Freedom Fastlane. Today I'm going to be sharing with you a ritual for tracking and maintaining your progress in every area of your life. This is a morning routine that I follow every day in order to set the habits and track the habits that I need to have in order to reach the goals that I have set for myself. This is a process that we follow in the office to keep each other accountable. It's something that we do in our businesses in order to make sure that everybody's on the same path, and it's a way to gamify your progress towards your goals. It's a central part of our training inside of the tribe and it's really becoming the framework for everything that we do. Because if you track your progress and the daily habits that you need to have in order to reach your goals and then you share that with somebody else, it's a great way to make sure that you're on the path to achieving those goals. I taught this at Freedom Fastlane Live. So you're going to be hearing the recording that we did live from the stage at Freedom Fast Lane. Enjoy this talk on setting, maintaining and achieving your goals. We call it the tribe 5.
A lot of people think that I call the Tribe the Tribe because I'm a Cleveland Indians fan, which is about 98, 98% true. But there is another reason why we call the Tribe the Tribe, and it's because it is an acronym for something, and it's what I consider the five areas of growth in your life. Most things that we do fall into one of these five categories, and they all have a financial roi, and they are, this time, relationships, income, body and expansion. Now, how many of you got into your business because you wanted freedom? And then a year down the line, you're working more than ever, Your life is more stressful than ever, and once in a while, you take an hour off and you start to feel better. Can anybody relate with this idea? The rest of you, I want whatever magic potion you're drinking because this is the cycle.
We get into business because we want a better life. And then a year later we're like, was it even worth getting into business in the first place? Because to be honest with you, I'm not that much happier, if at all. I ran away from some pains, and now with my time, all I do is work. And we go home and we say, just a little bit longer and it'll be better. And it never really is.
So how many of you have finally stepped away from your business for like more than half a second and all of a sudden you get different perspective, you get different ideas and solutions to some of your business's biggest problems start to come up when you step away from your business. Anybody experience this? Okay, great. So we've all experienced it. Why are we still trapped in our businesses? So in other words, is there a financial ROI to the way we spend our time or to the amount of creativity we experience or the amount of fun that we have? I find that the happier I get, the more money I make. Kind of a weird idea, but I found that to be the case that how I spend my time, if it's in enjoyment, I tend to make a bigger influence in my businesses, in my clients businesses, and we see better growth. Talk about R and relationships, how many of you have met one person, one contact, have made one networking connection that has completely changed some direction of your business? Most of you. Now, let's ask it a little differently. Are you more or less productive? When you're fighting with your spouse or partner, Are you more or less productive? All right, women in the room, are you more likely to support your partner? If your partner Every day takes 30 minutes and is just completely present and locked into you, is it easier or harder to support that person?
Men in the room, is it easier or harder to be completely on fire and dialed into your business? When your partner says, no matter what happens, I am just so proud of you, babe, and I got your back. Yeah. Most of the time you go.
I can do anything now.
And on the other side, when you're fighting with your spouse or your partner, how many of you go into the office and you're like, God damn stupid.
Let'S have this meeting.
Noise goes on, right? It's impossible to focus when you're. When you're disconnected from the person that you live with. So is there a financial ROI to your romantic relationships? Is there a financial ROI to your business relationships? Seven of you get it. All right, awesome. Let's talk about income. Income we include as part of this and we create habits around each one of these order to really gamify our success and our progress. When we talk about our income, how many of you know that there are some activities that produce more income and there are some activities that you spend a lot more time in, but your return per hour or your return per unit of energy is much, much lower. How many of you have experienced the difference? Yes or yes?
Talk about body. Have any of you woken up from a night of having pizza and beer and then tried to work versus a time when you were in the best physical shape of your life, you were eating clean? Was it easier or harder to be dialed into your business than what's important when your body was in the best shape it's ever been and you were eating the best you've ever eaton? Is it easier or harder to get great work done? So is there a financial ROI to our bodies? Let's talk about expansion. How many of you know that by reading the thoughts of somebody else, hearing the thoughts of somebody else, being around people who stretch you and make you grow, make you think differently about what's possible in life and your business and as a result, you see different results in your life. Have you experienced that? So is there a financial ROI to who we hang out with and what we take in? So all of these points make up most of our life and they also have a direct correlation to how much money we make and to how much we enjoy life. There is a financial ROI to each of these pieces. So what we do in the office and what we do in our workshops is we create habits around each one of these areas and we score these areas on a daily basis simply to measure our progress and to stay on track and to develop habits in each one of these areas. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to briefly walk you through the exercise of how we get clear on these habits. I'm going to give you some sample ones and I'm going to give you the assignment of before you leave Austin or before you leave this event, to come up with your tribe five daily habits. By the way, if you do this with an accountability partner, a life partner or someone in your life, even if it is just an accountability partner that you met here, this is extremely impactful. So what we do here. How many of you have heard the podcast episode with Todd Herman? He did. He talked about 90 day targets. So we based this process off of what he taught in this in his podcast, which is to set no more than 90 day targets. So we set a 90 day target for each one of these areas. So in your life, in 90 days, how would you like to be spent spending your time in 90 days? What in where you invest your energy and your time would you like to have more freedom? Where would you like to experience a change in your Life that in 90 days if we developed a habit for, it would make a meaningful impact in your life? We don't have to fix every problem in your life in this area right now, but what's one? So I'll give you an example. I have found that for whatever reason, when I write down a really weird password, make that my Facebook password, fold it up, and put it in a book on the shelf. So every time I want to check Facebook, I have to go on the bookshelf, pull off the book, and open up and read my password and type it in. I somehow get like three extra hours in my day. How did that happen? And was it that I was sitting there spending three hours on Facebook? No, but I was definitely spending that much energy just being sucked into the constant noise that was going on. So I found for me that my 90 day habit of just locking out Facebook created extra time in my Life. So my 90 day target was to experience flow. And I defined that by spending 80% of my time in creative activities. So that meant getting free of email, getting free of Facebook, getting free of meetings that I didn't want to be at, and all of a sudden just starting to eliminate these things that held back the energy that I wanted to experience. So we create a habit out of that. And that habit was for me to lock Facebook to just create a weird password that I had to check every day if I left it there. I get my point for the day. If you do not have a clear daily habit out of this, my recommendation would be a once a day meditation, if that is not already a habit, for you to make that the habit. So if you want to make this process easy, you're not sure what the target is or what your habit is. To get your target, my recommendation would be to have one meditation per day. You can start with five minutes a day. There's plenty of guided meditation apps out there, or you can download them just about anywhere. I recommend that be your daily habit. Let's talk about R for relationships. So what would be a beneficial target for your relationships? I was going over this with somebody once and they said for me it might be sleeping in the same bed. Okay, cool. We can work with that. So if the 90 day target would be to sleep in the same bed, what would be the daily habit that would make that inevitable? Does anything come to mind? How about what you say, Getting home, go home every day. How about taking 10 minutes a day to be completely locked into your partner and telling them how much they mean to you and how they've impacted your life? Would that make it possible that in 90 days you might say, sleep in the same bed? Or if it's doing one thing every day that just lights up your Partner, does that have a financial ROI to it? You better believe it. Watch how fast your life straightens out. If you make this a habit in a business sense, it doesn't have to be a romantic setting. In fact, my team has said, you know, we would really like your R point for you to go make a.
New business contact every day.
Yeah, very interesting. Would that move the needle of the company if every day we were making a new business contact, would 10% of those end up being close connections that could help drive our goals and objectives? So if our point is personally, it's to have just a circle of male friends where we can play football on Sunday. For me, that would light me up, that would completely refuel me if that was something we did weekly. So if we said weekly football was the end objective. My daily habit out of this was to send a once a day appreciation message to one of my guy friends. Hey, I was just thinking about that thing you said last week and how it impacted me. And I wanted to tell you that I did this, this, and this as a result of it and how much that impacted me. Thank you so much. I really value our friendship and I'm really thankful for you. Daily appreciation for people in your life goes a really long way. Especially in today's ADD world, we are constantly distracted. Taking a small minute to appreciate someone in your life, be it romantic, business or otherwise, goes a long way in building relationships and making them long term. Let's talk about income. This one's the easy one because it's fairly easy to quantify what type of result we want in our business or our incomes. So there's a girl in our office who runs a side cookie business and she wanted to boost the revenues of her cookie business. And we said, okay, what daily habit could you make to boost that revenue? And we kind of sat on it for a minute and I said, do you remember when we hired you how we had an interview and then like a week later you came and you dropped off cookies at the office. And I was like, go hire that girl. It made an impression on me. I said, what if you did that every day? What if you dropped off cookies at some place that was your daily habit of just getting new clients? And she's been practicing that. So what in your business is the one thing that you can do every day that will move the needle of your business? And we consider this a pass fail. Did you get your one thing done or not? Because if you did, everything else is secondary. If you didn't, it was a failure. Of a day. So if our goal is to boost revenues by 20%, what's the one thing that if we did it every day, would make that inevitable? Is it making a sales call? Is it emailing your list? Is it making a content piece? What thing that done every day would make that inevitable? So we just call this our one thing. Let's talk about body. We ever had a New Year's resolution that lasted like 15 hours? What does a gym look like? January 2, January 3, after the hangover is slept off, it's full. And then by January 22nd, it's back to what it was previously. Because there's never a habit that is created. So we track it by creating one daily habit for our bodies. I had an individual go through this process at one of our workshops. We talked about, okay, the goal is I want to lose 30 pounds. The daily habit is I'm going to limit my carbohydrate intake to 30 or 50 grams a day. Ninety days later, he had lost 30 pounds because that daily habit will do it. Now the process usually is I do a thing for a while and then I take a cheat day. And then all of a sudden my life looks like exactly it was before in all areas of our life. But he tracked it and 90 days later, the goal was inevitable. He hit the goal, kept the habit. That's how it works. So I had one gal go through this process where she said, so my daily habit is to work out, but I don't have time to work out. What do I do now? Okay, interesting. We can work with this. If we gave you a two minute workout that would give you your end goal, would you do it? Yes. Okay, great. Every morning when you wake up, do two minutes of burpees without stopping. She looked at me like, I can't do two minutes of burpees. Okay, so we can indeed get a great workout in, in two minutes. And that's big progress based on what you're doing now. So what end goal would make this inevitable? So if it's lose 30 pounds, if we limited carb intake to 30 grams a day, would that do it? My recommendation, if you don't have a clear goal for this either, A get some sort of greens in your body. And as I understand it, there will be greens your seat probably sometime tomorrow morning. So you all have zero excuse for this. Or number two, track and get 10,000 steps per day. You'll hear it in our office. They'll be, hey, who's gonna get the mail? I do. I'm getting My steps and somebody walks out the door to start getting their steps. When we're on the phone, you'll see us walking around the office, walking around outside. People are getting their steps in. Our next door neighbor emailed me and says, why is your team always walking around outside? Oh, we're getting our 10,000 steps in. Most of us sit at computers hunched over, eating carby food, 80% of our waking hours and we wonder why we're unhealthy, unhappy and sad and unproductive. I wonder, so what's the daily habit? What's the thing that we can slight edge for many, many years in order to avoid all the inevitable problems that our habits are currently giving to us? Good one. To start with, get your greens in every day. Get 10,000 steps per day. If those aren't habits already, I would recommend that they become your habits. Start there. E is expansion. This is a hard one to quantify sometimes. So let's look at how we think. If we look at what we perceive, what we think is normal, then we can reverse engineer this. So for me it was I want to see the billion dollar path right now. I think in like $10 million. Like that's when I start a business. I think about at the 10 million dollar level. I want to see the billion dollar path. And I can't right now. I see it now, but 90 days ago I would have said I could show you my journal. It was written down. I want to see the billion dollar path. So what daily habit could I Quantify that in 90 days would give me clarity on the billion dollar path? Okay, so I know what I need to read. I need to read books by people who have become billionaires. I need to listen to interviews with billionaires. And I got to cut out all the other information because now I'm clear on what I want the target to be. If it isn't already your daily habit, I would recommend that reading some sort of high level thought book be your daily habit. 10 pages a day be what you hit your daily target. All of these are pass fail. You either did it or you didn't. So out of this, our morning routine becomes really, really clear. Because depending on what your daily habits are and your targets are, your morning routine is going to look something like I wake up, I do a 15 to 20 minute meditation, I go for a run and do some burpees. I come back, have something green, shoot my partner or spouse or somebody that's close to me, an appreciation message and tell them how much they meant to me. I'M going to journal and I'm going to go to work and then I'm going to get my first. My first thing I'm going to do when I walk into the office or I go into the room where my laptop is, is I'm going to get my one thing done. No excuses. And by 11 o' clock, we've got all five of these hit. So every morning the first thing that I do is, is I pull out my journal and I write T R I B E across the top of my journal. I do my journal practice. At the end of the day, pull out the journal, circle which points I got, cross out the ones I didn't. So on a day like this, I got three points. The reason we do this is because after about three weeks we can look at our lives and say, how we doing? If you're getting ones and twos for more than about a day, you know that things are off. You know that something is headed in a negative direction. Whereas if you're getting fours and fives, it's kind of inevitable that things are going to pick up. It's kind of inevitable to say that we're not on the right track. And if after 90 days we haven't hit our objective, then we just need to change the habit that we are practicing. And this is how we measure, grow our progress. This is extremely effective when you've got a business partner or a spouse and somebody says, you know, I just don't like where we're going. I just not really happy. Pull out your scorecard. I don't want to. Pull out the scorecard. Pull out the scorecard. What'd you get this week? I haven't tracked in five days. Well, we have identified the problem because you have no time for yourself, you're not taking care of your body, you aren't being productive in your business, you aren't getting any outside thoughts that make you feel like you're growing and you don't feel connected to anybody because you haven't practiced any appreciation. No wonder we're not doing okay. Or if it's with a business partner, it's man, revenues are down. Pull out your scorecard. I don't want to pull out the scorecard. Pull out the journal. When was the last time you got your one thing done? I don't want to have this conversation. It's usually how it goes. Whereas if both of you are getting your one thing done every day, or your employees are getting their one thing done every day and everyone in the office knows what the one thing is, it's really easy to keep track of how people are doing. Does this make sense? This is how we do it internally. This is how we do it personally in order to track our progress as both entrepreneurs and as individuals in every area of our lives. So one of your assignments before you leave, in fact, I'd recommend you do it before you go to bed tonight so you can start practicing it tomorrow morning, is identifying what your five objectives are and what the five daily habits are in each of those categories. If you don't have them, I'd recommend meditation, appreciation, your one thing greens in 10,000 steps, and reading. You can customize these however you want, but those are the ones that I would recommend you start with. Cool. Are you up for the challenge?
Every time I deviate from this process, I stop getting the results that I want in my life. And when I make each of the my daily habits an absolute commitment, I have better days, I get better results, I'm happier. The process is simple. You're simply tracking the things that you know drive you further towards your goals. And when you are tracking it, and preferably, preferably even sharing it with somebody else, you are more likely to keep and maintain those habits. And we all know that they're good habits because we're both basing them off of what is going to make our goal inevitable. It's so often that we know exactly what to do and then we simply don't do them. The Tribe 5 is a way to keep yourself and someone else accountable for practicing those daily habits that we need to practice in order to achieve those results that we want. This is something that is becoming a central part of our training inside of the tribe because I believe that money is just an amplifier. Money amplifies the different areas of our life. And if we don't have everything lined up, then we're amplifying some major holes.
So what we need to do, I.
Believe, is both focus on income and business, of course, but also to make our health and our relationships and the other areas of our life priority. Because everything is an investment. The way you spend your time has a financial roi. Your relationships have a financial roi. Your fitness and your health has a financial roi. What you think about has a financial roi.
So if we want to have the.
Best results in life, we've got to manage all of these different areas, and that's why we practice. The tribe five inside of the tribe. I hope to have you inside of the tribe. We are currently open.
