Ryan Daniel Moran argues that grinding through work you hate won't lead to doing what you love. He shows how this creates stress and inauthenticity, and suggests asking "what do I want now?" instead. His assignment: do nothing for seven days to break the cycle.

Your brain is justifying the things that you are doing that you don't like because you bought into a BS story that if you do the shit for long enough that then you can do the thing you like in reality. If you were just to follow the thing that you like, first you would be happy and second, you would probably get the result.
It takes one free person to create change. This is the show for them. We are the creators of of the free world. This is capitalism.com and we are the 1%.
Yo, what's up everybody? I'm recording this while I'm driving and I know that my audio isn't the best on this one, but you're just gonna have to forgive me because I think this is really important. I've been working with so many of you for so long, and so many of you have been listening to me for so long and so many of you have told me. You know, Ryan, I have learned so much from your podcast. I have learned so much from your emails, I've learned so much from social media posts, and I've even spoken with people who I've worked with one on one in some capacity, either inside the tribe or inside my mastermind or at my home at a workshop. And the hardest part for most people to start to get the results that they want is simply overcoming this incessant desire that they have to follow everything that they don't want to do. I work with so many entrepreneurs who have ideas that really excite them. I know so many entrepreneurs who start a business because they're excited about the idea of having a different life. I work with so many entrepreneurs who have products that they're really pumped about and then they spend their time with me justifying why they are doing everything but the thing that they want to do. I know I'm thinking of one entrepreneur that has been to my home who was at a workshop and had a product that they really liked, they really loved, they were really proud of, they were really excited, but they really wanted to get out to more people. And we spent an hour talking about all the things that they were doing that they didn't like doing that they felt like they had to do, and if only those things would be fixed, they could spend more time on the thing that they like doing while ignoring the fact that only 10% of their results were coming from the things that they don't want. And 90% of their stress was coming from the things that they don't want. Want. And I know how easy it is to look at what everybody else is doing and see the results that they are getting and think that you have to do exactly what they are doing in order to get the result that they are getting. But that's old news. That is what someone else has done. That's value that someone else has created. And usually they've done it by tapping into what they really wanted to do. And they're an example to you. Not what is possible if you follow us step by step system, but what is possible if you follow what you really want to do. I think about a time when I was really young, when I was in elementary school and I knew that, I knew that, I knew that I would be successful. I knew that, I knew that, I knew that I would be a millionaire. I knew that, I knew that, I knew that I would be an entrepreneur because it was just what I wanted to do. There was no doubt in my mind when I was 12 years old that I was going to be a really successful entrepreneur. I doubted it when I went to college and studied to be a pastor because I felt guilty about wanting to be an entrepreneur. So what did I do? I put my attention on what I didn't want. I didn't want to go work somewhere else and be on staff at a church. And I put so much energy on what I did not want that I went to school studying to be that person. Until finally I had enough pain, I had enough resistance, I had enough denial of who I really was. So I said, all right, fine, I'll give it up. And I went in the direction of what I really wanted and life opened up for me. So many of you are doing that in your business. You have a direction that you know that you know that you want to go. You have an idea that you know that you know that you want to do. But your brain will justify all of the things that you are doing. Instead, your brain is justifying the things that you are doing that you don't like. Because you bought into a BS story that if you do the shit for long enough that then you can do the thing you like. In reality, if you were just to follow the thing that you like, first you would be happy and second, you would probably get the result. I'm thinking of an entrepreneur in our community who I know fakes his reviews, who I know sells crappy products that he does not want, that he does not want himself, that he does not think are good, and he fakes the whole thing because he says, well, if I just can manipulate my way to success for long enough Then I can sell this thing, I can sell this business, and then I can do something that I like. And meanwhile, this person is absolutely miserable.
And he is miserable because he knows that there is a stress, a tension between what he really wants and what he is doing. I know that this person looks up to entrepreneurs like Jeff Bezos, Warren Buffett, Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk, and says, why can't I be like that? And in order for me to become like that, I feel so undeserving, so unqualified to be something like that that I must manipulate the marketplace to give me what I want. I must manipulate the marketplace in order to take the action that I want so that I can feel successful. But the whole time, he does not feel success because he knows it's a farce. He knows that he is faking it. Somebody who is faking it, somebody who is manipulating the marketplace, of course they're going to feel undeserving. So it becomes a perpetual cycle of people trying to trick other people into giving them what they want because they don't feel deserving of that success. And because they don't feel deserving of that success, they start manipulating other people to try and fake their deserving, to fake the result that they are getting. And here I am telling you that if you were simply to pay attention to the thing that you like and the thing and take your attention away from the things that you don't like or don't want to do, you would be more successful. There was a girl in the tribe this past week. I had this coaching group that I'm practicing with where I'm doing once a week coaching calls, reviewing their products, reviewing their ideas and giving them our assignments. And this girl brought in this challenge and she kept saying, I'm so stuck. I feel so stuck. I don't know what to do. I don't know what to do. I feel so stuck. And she had emailed me previously in the week and I said. And she had told me in that email that she was stuck. And there was this recurring attention to this idea of being stuck. And she said, every time I try to go make a sale, people don't want it. And I said, well, of course they don't want it. You're operating from a place in which you feel like you're stuck and you're trying to manipulate people into giving you a sale. And people pick up on that. People, of course, they pick up on you feeling like you don't even want this thing. And of course, that's going to perpetuate the feeling of being stuck. And I gave her the assignment of doing nothing for seven days. Don't come up with any ideas. Don't sell your course. Don't try to sell a client. Do nothing. Because if you're operating in this place of I'm so stuck, I'm so stuck, I'm so unhappy, I'm so unhappy. And then you try to sell something, all you are doing is projecting that out to the people around you. We pick up on that stuff. How you feel is picked up by other people. How you feel is picked up by your clients and your customers and your employees. If you are uncertain, your employees pick up on your uncertainty and they will also feel uncertain. Because if the boss is uncertain, if the boss is uncertain about the direction of the business, how do you think they feel about their job?
If you are uncertain about the quality of your product, how do you think your copy is going to come across? If you are uncertain about the benefits and the results of the product that you are selling, how do you think other people are going to perceive your product as? Well? So is the solution to become certain about your product, Maybe. Or is it to just follow the thing that you are certain about? Is it to do the thing that you are excited about?
The the. The trick to this is not to fake excitement about what you don't want, but to simply follow the thing that is easy to get excited about. It's to let go of the things that you are trying to force yourself to do and doing motivational things in order to try and pump yourself up in order to do the thing that you don't want to do. It's now you can do that. You can beat that drum for long enough. You can go to motion motivational seminars.
Go face the things that you don't want to do and have more energy and enthusiasm for a short amount of time until the thing that you don't want to do drains that motivational tank. And then you go back to the motivational seminar and get back on the hamster wheel until finally one day you say, I don't want to do this business anymore. I'm going to sell it, or I'm going to get out of it, or I'm going to shut it down, I'm going to try something else.
It's a much easier path, it's a much more free path.
To simply allow yourself to do the thing that you want to do in the first place, to allow yourself to give yourself the permission.
To build the business, to Say hi to the person to eat the food that you already want to do. It's like water going downstream. If you simply.
Allow yourself to go down with the flow, it picks up more and more momentum. I'm telling you all of this because I know so many of you have an idea, have a dream. You picture your life working out a certain way. You picture yourself doing a certain thing, and you are spending your time and your energy on the things that you have to do in the meantime in order to get to the place where you want to be. Rather than thinking not about the life that you think will justify your status to your friends, but about the life that you're really excited about, about the life that you could be excited about, not the results that you could get excited about, but the actual life that you could get excited about. And then to allow yourself to think, okay, what is the next logical step that I'm genuinely pumped about? And it's okay if it's nothing. So often we get a vision for a life that we want, and then we think about, okay, what is the thing that I have to do in order to force that into becoming a reality? Rather than saying, what is it that I'm excited about? What is it that I want? And then what is the thing right now that I am excited to do? Not. That I have to do? Not that brings me one step closer to it. But if I'm excited about a certain vision for my life, what is the thing right now that I am also excited about? About if I have a vision for my life, I know that I want something. And then you switch the mode, you switch into, how do I do that? What do I have to do to make that a reality? You have cut yourself off.
From actually living that life. The opposite, the more enjoyable way is to simply remember what it is that you know that you want. Not what you think you're supposed to want, but the thing that you really do want. And then saying, from that place, what do I want right now? What do I want to do right now? So often we ask ourselves the question, how do we do something? Or what should I do? When a much more empowering question is, what do I want and what do I want to do? Now, when there's a conflict between what you think you want and what you want to do, it means that there's a lack of clarity about what you really want. Because what you feel in the moment is usually a more direct reflection of what it is that you really want. Now you say you've got goals you say that you want to hit certain revenue targets, you say that you want to hit certain.
Time targets, goals of where you want to go and, and where you want to visit and who you want to be with. And then you try to think, how do I reverse engineer the process of going there? But when you get really, really quiet, and I've said this, if you've never heard my keynote, freedom is the doing. I think it's the wisest thing I ever said. If you get real quiet, what you want, what you really actually want starts to bubble up to the surface. And then you can simply ask yourself the question, what do I want right now that feels the same as the excitement and the desire that I feel when I am tuned into what it is that I really want. That's how you effortlessly slide into.
Creating the experience that you want rather than forcing yourself to do it. I only know because I have done that for years. And maybe about six months ago, I started playing with the question of what would happen if I didn't try so hard? What would happen if I allowed things to be easy? What would happen if I gave up the attachment that I had to forcing the result that I want, and I instead allowed myself to just follow my sales, tune my sales to the direction of what feels good right now and on the path to what I get excited about, thinking about what might come in my future.
That's powerful. So, so many of you are stuck in the how to thinking about what you have to do when you. You're building stores and funnels and writing copy that you don't really want to do, rather than allowing yourself the freedom and the flexibility of doing what you really want and letting the business be a creative piece of your life, rather than using the thing that you beat into submission to give you what you want. It's funny, we say that we want freedom and then we build businesses that we don't feel freedom at all while we're in them. Whereas if we were to practice freedom, build the business that we wanted, build the business that made us feel free during the entire process, we would get freedom much faster. It's weird how this works, man. It's weird how this works. So I just make this to encourage you to tune in and follow what you really want, do the projects that you really like, date the people that you like, eat the food that you like, do those things. Because when you're really in tune with what it is that you want, you don't end up over indulging on the things that aren't good for you. You don't fall into depressive patterns that that make you have to soothe with dangerous behaviors. When you give yourself the permission to simply follow.
What feels good, like genuinely feels good, not gives you a distraction, not gives you a dopamine hit, not what gives you a.
Escape, but when it gives you the joy that you want to experience anyway, life just tends to open up.
So if you're struggling or feeling stuck, if you know that there is something that you want that you have been thinking about for a long time, I would invite you to consider the fact that you are spending a lot of mental energy thinking about how to do it rather than practicing why you want it. And you are probably cutting yourself off from doing the things that you already want to do, but you feel like you can't because you're afraid of what might result. But the reality is that if you do the thing that you don't want to do, the result will suck because you won't enjoy it. If you don't enjoy it along the way, you won't enjoy it when it comes Let it be easy, easy. Let it be fun. Let it be satisfying. Let it be exhilarating. Let it be easy. Let it be calm. Let it be peaceful.
Let the journey be exciting and peaceful and the result will be as well Care about y'.

I'm rooting for you and if you enjoyed this, share it with somebody who.
