Carly Hill says proximity—being around people slightly ahead of you—is the biggest lever for growing a therapy-to-coaching business. It raises your standards, compresses mistakes through feedback, and works at every price point from free to high-ticket. She warns against false proximity and hype-driven mentors.

I love to tailor these episodes to you and what you need. Today's episode is about proximity. Getting in the room. If there's one decision that's paid me back more than anything else in my business, it's this. It is getting in the mother effing room. I keep getting in the room. Not just any room, but the right room. I'm paying for my friends. I am paying to be in the room. It reminds me of when I was in a sorority back in college. I never thought I was going to be that sorority girl. But yeah, they're like you pay for your friends. You know what I paid for the bridesmaids that will be my lifelong friends, my ride or dies. And in business, I have paid to get in the rooms with expanders who have helped me go from 0 to 6 figures, who have helped me go from 6 to multi 6 figures and to multi 7 figures. Now I'm getting in the room with 8 figure earners. I just dropped 5k this morning to get in the room with an 8 figure earner who I know is going to expand me. Getting in the room where the standard is higher, the thinking is sharper, the playbook is proven. This is A game changer. What proximity actually does to your brain, to your standards, to your actions, it will absolutely change your business. How do you choose the right rooms? We're going to talk about this. Avoid the wrong ones. Yeah. I've been burned in the coaching industry. Didn't stop me. A simple 30 day proximity protocol. I'm going to challenge you to create momentum. Now, this is what we're going to dive into in this episode. I've invested well over six figures and mentors, consultants getting in the room, whether it's in person or online, it really doesn't matter. My business growth, my client wins and the speed that we move it all traces back to proximity. Proximity, proximity, proximity. We just had a wave of 20 plus wellness pros join the coach intensive in the last week and a half. Momentum breeds momentum. That's proximity at work. I'm going to be going live on Instagram more consistently because proximity isn't only in hotel ballrooms or stages or VIP days. No, it's just daily touch points. It's communicating and having real raw conversations with people, with your potential clients, your dream clients. Go live. Share your energy. Let that confidence and conviction come through. It doesn't have to be perfect. The live I did this morning, my power went out halfway through it. Okay, nobody likes a perfect person anyways, so go live. Be in the DMs, plant a seed. Hey, if this is resonating with you, shoot me a DM comment, code word. If you want xyz, start conversations. That momentum is going to breed momentum. Hey there. It's not celebrity access. It's not just getting in the room with people who have standards and have big wig energy gurus. No, it's about consistent access to people operating at the level you want. That's what getting in the room means. This is how you shortcut your success. Consistent access to people operating at the level you want. And then you have feedback loops that compress your trial and error. It's not just going to one Tony Robbins event. That's not what I mean by proximity. I mean finding someone who is a little bit ahead of you. Exactly why I'm getting in the room with an eight figure earner. Okay? I have that eight figure dream. They're ahead of me. They've been in the game longer than me. They're also 10 years older than me. I'm going to learn from her. I'm going to learn from her consistently because she's operating at the level I want. I'm going to be part of her feedback loop. She's going to compress the trial and error for me. Proximity raises standards. It will help you go faster. It will help you move forward easier with a path of least resistance standards. This means that you normalize bigger goals and bigger disciplined execution. You have a standard and you're going to rise to it. It's going to be disciplined. You're now normalizing going bigger over and over and over again. Going bigger is my standard and I will continue to do it over and over and over again. I also love speed. Success loves speed. I love to quantum leap to collapse timelines. I always say, what is wrong with taking a shortcut if you know exactly where you want to go? I move fast. I've already made the mistakes and I'm refining when people are still thinking about it. I have an idea. Boom. I execute. I let it be a little janky. I let it have mistakes because we learn from that. Just avoid common dead ends by moving, move and shake. When you have stakes, you self select into accountability. That's the power and beauty of proximity. Standard speed stakes. I had this client, she sat in, I call it hot seat coaching. She did a VIP power hour with me. We implemented one messaging shift and I kid you not, she booked three consult calls in seven days. That one little tiny shift that we made. That tactic mattered. But it was her decision to get in the room with me and do that power hour. Her fast decision making. Boom. I'm getting in the room with Carly. She had three console calls booked in the matter of the next week. She made her investment back and then some. It's a no brainer. Let's talk about the wrong rooms for a second. The truth is there's really no wrong room. Every mentorship I've ever invested in, even if I didn't get what I came for, it gave me something powerful. It gave me connections. I've made friends, lessons, some perspective that still moved me forward. I chose to see that silver lining. And there is Always a silver lining if you choose to look for it. So again, there's no wrong room. But let's be real, there are rooms that will not take you where you want to go. And here's what I mean. False proximity. The instructor is up on stage with all the hype, but there's zero feedback channels. There's no access, there's no coaching, there's no further implementation container. Yes, that might spark short term motivation, but it won't create the transformation that you want. Also, if you're the most advanced person in the room, if you're always leading every conversation, you're done. You've outgrown that space. Growth requires discomfort. You want to be in the rooms where everyone else is a few steps ahead of you. You want to be in the room where everybody is pulling you higher. Also, look for mentors with red flags. If somebody has a vague system, if they're just full of hype and word salad promises lots of bad reviews. Coaches who rely on energy and slick marketing. But when you dig deeper, there's no operational backbone. That's a no. I've been on sales calls with teams like this. Great ads, viral content, lots of followers. The leader is the product. It's great, it looks great. But come to find out the system is vague. They're not actually teaching deep business. It is word salad. They have great energy and hype. Many cases I realized I was actually way further ahead of them. So do your due diligence so that you can get in the right room. And here's the mindset. Shift rooms are not expenses, they're multipliers. If you implement what you learn in the right room, it will absolutely expand your business, your personal growth, it will expand you exponentially. And bigger isn't always better. The right $2,000 room or even doing a one to one session for like 500 bucks or less, that can outperform the wrong $20,000 room. So the real question is, what's the cost of not deciding to get in the room in the first place? Is it waiting another six months? Is it spinning your wheels? Is it losing energy and time that you will never get back? Wouldn't it just be easier to decide to get in the room to make the investment knowing that it's coming back to you tenfold? That's how I see it. At least. I chose this years ago that the second I invest in something, it's already on its way back to me tenfold. The moment I make the energetic exchange, the moment money is leaving my account, it Is already on its way back to me. Multiplied money is just energy. Proximity is just energy. Everything is energy and it always circulates back. And remember, the proximity ladder exists at every budget level. Podcast binges, co working sessions, going live, that's low cost, that's free, but it's still proximity. You could binge watch my all my free stuff for days and still be in proximity with me. You could also invest in a VIP day with me. This is going to speed things up. You come to some of the workshops I'm doing, it's going to speed things up. That's mid ticket. Then I have high ticket stuff. You want to go real, real fast. You want to have unlimited support. High access, real access, fast implementation. We can do that too. So the proximity ladder exists at every budget level. There's no excuse not to get into proximity. Proximity will be the one thing that launches you forward every single time. So I hope that you don't just listen to this episode and say aha. Yep. Okay, I get it. Getting in the room. It's important to get in the room. I know you understand that. I know this is not the first time that you've heard how important proximity is, but do something about it. Go actually get in the room. Move, shake, make an investment again. It doesn't have to be this huge room. Just get in the right room. Whether it's low cost, free, mid ticket or high ticket, just get in the right room and get in the room over and over and over again. I hope that you get in my room. You're already in it right now just by listening to this podcast. My love is with you. I am cheering you on and I'll see you in the next episode.
