Think of it like the business school we never had. I am so excited to dive in with you.
Let's get started. Hi everyone and welcome back to the podcast. I'm Carly Hill, licensed clinical social worker, business mentor for therapist and your guide to building a coaching business that brings you freedom from flexibility and financial success. That is what we are about around here. Freedom, flexibility, security, unapologetically making more money. So today I want to share one of the most important lessons I've learned on this journey. It's something that I call the Power of one. And I talk about this concept inside my Therapreneur book. But it has been an absolute game changer for both me and my clients here. Here's the thing. When you're transitioning from therapy to coaching, it can feel overwhelming, right? You're doing all the things, you're serving all the people, you're trying to be everywhere all at once. You have all of the ideas dropping in. But this is the fastest way to burnout and confusion. And I know this because I've been there. And confused. Buyers don't buy. We don't want to confuse our audience. It doesn't feel good for us to be confused either. One of my mentors told me, carly, all of these ideas that you have, they're not all meant for you. Write them down, save them for a rainy day. But how you're going to be successful in this space is not adding things to your plate. It's actually going to be subtracting things from your plate. The magic is in the subtraction, not the addition. And this comes back to the power of one. So I don't want you to be burnout and confused. We're not going to let that happen. This doesn't have to be your story. So I'm going to show you how the power of one can help you. Just one client, one problem, one offer, one platform. This is going to help you skyrocket your results. It's Going to help you simplify your business. It's going to help you give back your time and energy. You're going to buy back your freedom, your flexibility, your security, your time, your energy. So let's dive into what the power of one actually is. Because it's this philosophy that's really rooted in simplicity and focus. It means getting laser focused on one ideal client. That's it. Just one. One specific problem you solve. One transformational offer. So just one signature program. You can make a million dollars off of one signature program. I also talk about this in my book, and I do the math for you of how this is possible. I have done this myself. One program, a million dollars off of one program, one marketing platform. So by narrowing your focus, you're not limiting your potential, you're actually amplifying it. You're cutting through the noise, you're creating clarity in your messaging and you're really becoming the go to expert for your audience because trying to do too much at once, this is like throwing spaghetti at the wall. Nothing sticks. You're left feeling exhausted, you feel scatterbrained. But when you can focus on one thing at a time, you create traction, you build momentum, you start seeing results faster. Actually, a lot of therapists turn coaches. They start their coaching business and they think that they're going to have to create all of this content for the rest of their lives. They're going to have to create a new course every single month. They're going to have to create new social media content every day for God knows how long. And the thought of this gives me a headache too. It actually sounds horrible. And this is the exact opposite of what I teach. But a lot of people follow this model of thinking creating more is better. Creating more is going to help them reach their goals. We live in a society that teaches us more is better. It also fills our entrepreneurial spirit when we're like more, more, more, more, more. Right this more mentality. Chasing after every single idea that pops into our head, spreading ourselves thin. But then we're not left with a sustainable profit. In the end, you're just left with burnout. Hey there. Did you know we give away one of our incredible digital products every single week?
All you have to do is leave.

So this is why we're scaling back. This is why we're simplifying. This is why we are subtracting. Because you feel like you're doing the right thing. When you're throwing all the spaghetti at the wall, nothing's sticking. You're doing all of the things you're trying to be on all the different platforms, you're trying to not alienate anyone. So you're serving all the different types of avatars. In theory, it seems good, but it's not a good recipe for sustainability. It looks like hustling with no reward. And again, it creates confusion for your buyer. And there's too many choices. So I would say your coaching services, your offer suite, it should not be compatible to a Chinese menu. There shouldn't be too many options for them. Constantly relaunching as well and creating new courses all of the time. This is really overwhelming, especially if you're a newbie course creator. Not to mention it's pretty exhausting and annoying. But it's the only way people can think of to hit their revenue goals. But it doesn't have to be like this because I don't want you to spend hours upon hours creating, marketing and rolling just to break even. And this is also why the cohort model kind of sucks, because if you want 10 people and you only get three, then you have to move forward and then you can enroll new people until three months or six months or however long your program is. So we want to do open enrollment when we talk about having one transformational offer, one signature program. This is a topic for another day. And I cover this more in depth in my program. But I'm giving you little tidbits here. So I think I'm dialing in the point here. How we are subtracting, how we are not juggling a million ideas. When we talk about attracting your Soulmate clients and just choosing one population, I know this can be difficult for you, and I'm not going to go into a bunch of niching right now because I have tons and tons of episodes on niching. So I want you to go back and I want you to revisit those if you don't know who your one population is and you can have more than one population that you work with. But for the sake of simplicity and just getting one signature program up and running, ask yourself, which population do you want to focus on? So we just enrolled A new client into the Therapist to Coach accelerator program this week. And she already has two programs up and running. But she needs help subtracting. She needs help with the power of one. And this doesn't mean that we can't scale both of them. But for simplicity and teaching her the order of operations, I said, which one do you want to focus on first? Which one are you most passionate about? Which one do you want to scale first? Which one do you want to fill up first? And we chose that together. And naturally she'll know how to rinse and repeat and do everything we just did with this one program with her other one. But if we try to focus on both of them at the same time, she's going to feel overwhelmed, like she's throwing spaghetti at the wall. She's going to be spreading herself thin. This energy is going to relay to her clients and she's not going to enroll, not nearly as many people as she could if she just subtracted. So choose who your one population is and figure out what their number one problem is. Just one, one problem. This is a test for you. If you can say, who is your one population? What is the one problem you solve? What's the name of the one signature offer? And then of course you need to know details about it. Is it a 12 week program? Do you have the hybrid model of group coaching and a digital course? Are you just starting off with group coaching? Are you selling different tiers? There's so many different things we can do in the online space with our signature offers. This is the heart of our coaching business, is our offers. So one offer that delivers massive transformation and then when you nail this, you'll be able to scale your business without adding unnecessary complexity. Let's talk about marketing platforms too, because I see so often everybody thinks that they have to be on all the different platforms. They're trying to do Instagram, they're trying to do Facebook, they're trying to do TikTok, they're trying to do LinkedIn. You don't have to do all of those. You can be on all of those places. Eventually you can set up systems to just cross post, but I want you to dial in what's working for you, what's working for having conversations with your audience and then master that. Build a presence in one place, engage your audience in one place, drive traffic to one place. So maybe you start off by kind of testing different platforms and you're saying, okay, this one. I'm having a lot of conversations with my audience on this one. I'M going to double down and dial in on this one. Or maybe you're new to Instagram. Instagram is overwhelming to you, but Facebook feels more familiar to you. Or vice versa. Start with what feels safe to you. Start with what you know so you don't have to overcomplicate it and go through an unnecessary learning curve. So power of one. Write it down. Your one client, the one problem, the one offer, the one platform and commit to mastering each area before expanding. You do have to be consistent. Mastery comes from repetition, not from doing a million things at once. It's about repetition. And if you need help refining your niche, creating your offer, building your marketing plan, protecting your license, getting your tech set up. This is exactly what we teach all of our clients Inside the Therapist to Coach Accelerator program. We are here to guide you every single step of the way. From filing your business entity, getting your insurance set up, getting your ducks in a row with the logistics of your business entity, then to figuring out your messaging and your niche, Creating a customized marketing plan that's working for you. I call it my Modern Marketing Master Plan. A plan that's going to work in 2025. How to do it in a way that feels good and authentic to you.
