Brief excerpt from a YouTube dialogue (two speakers) about rapid first-draft writing techniques. Speakers describe 'blackout' writing, suppressing the internal editor to increase speed, blocking out dedicated time, and achieving flow states; one speaker claims writing 10,000 words in a day during focused sessions.

Well, I'm very good at first drafts. I do what I call blackout writing. Okay. If your editing brain is turned on while you're writing, you're gonna go slow, you're gonna second guess yourself, and it's just not gonna go anywhere. One time I wrote 10000 words in one day. Flying, going to strange places. Like I'm sitting on the Mediterranean in Spain right now. Yeah, Shed, whatever it is, it's probably really fancy because the dude's rich, but from for three or four hours in the morning he writes and then the rest of the day he just hangs out with his wife and does fun stuff. And that's whatever works for you, works for you. It's just, you gotta find it and unlock it.
Really good tip there. Maybe I should block out time and just write and stop being self critical. The thing that happened with my mindset, I think I got in a different mindset than my usual one with a book and I was like overthinking, right? Yeah, I know this definitely that put me in that Google Docs for more than, let's say 15 minutes and I go in a flow state and I can write and write and write and the more I write, the better it gets.
