Why I kept one of my proudest achievements secret for 12 months...

This is a YouTube video titled "Why I kept one of my proudest achievements secret for 12 months..." published on October 1, 2024. It features Chris Chippendale sharing a personal and reflective monologue about a charitable initiative he started to fund speech therapy sessions for disabled children in Moldova through his coaching business. He discusses his initial reluctance to publicize the project due to fear of judgment and marketing perceptions, ultimately coming clean and expressing gratitude to his supporters. The content is a solo video message focused on personal growth, charity, and transparency.
Okay, first video newsletter for a little while, and this one's a confession. I've not been practicing what I preach. I've not actually been living up to in private what I've been saying in public. And it started out something small. I don't think it's a big deal, but it's got to the point now, whereas I need to sort of just kind of come clean about this a little bit. I've not been doing anything terrible, but I've been giving advice to people and recently hit me, I've not been following that advice myself. So where this all stems from is just under 12 months ago. So a little over a year ago, I started a little side project to try and give back. And this was something that I didn't think was gonna be a big thing. I thought it was fairly small. It was just a little issue that was close to my heart. And I thought, wouldn't it be great if I could tie this to the work I do with coaching, If I could make the coaching a win win and kind of pay some of the goodness forward, help out those who are in need and involve my tribe and the other people I work with into that. So what I did is I set up a link with this charity for. It's a center in Moldova for mentally and physically disabled children. And they help these kids get the kind of support and their families get support that they cannot get. Moldova is one of the poorest countries in Europe and there's no real government funding for this. And a lot of these kids, because of their disabilities, you know, special needs, they often end up abandoned in. In residential homes. And like, really, like. If you've heard of the Romanian orphanages, it's not quite that bad, but it's not far off. It's really, really horrible situation. And this is an issue that's fairly close to my heart. I thought, wouldn't it be great if I could link this to the work I do with patient centered training? So what I did is I set up a link which basically meant that anytime somebody bought anything from me, whether that was a membership, whether that was a course, anything like that whatsoever, some of those proceeds went to paying for speech therapy lessons for the children at this center. Because the speech therapy is really, really key. If they can't communicate, they can't live independently. When they can communicate, not only their lives better, but their family's lives are as well, it really, really improves things. So for the last 12 months, I've run this little scheme where anytime somebody buys something from Me, or if they leave me a review online, I automatically will fund some of those there. And I didn't make this public because at the time, I didn't want it to seem like, oh, I'm doing this thing, but only if you buy from me. I didn't want it to seem like it was like a sleazy marketing thing. Like I'm just doing this to try and. To try and make more sales and stuff like that. I've seen people do it that way before. It's never quite sat that well with me. And I was worried people were going to think I was doing that, so I didn't publicize it at all. The only people who knew about it were people who'd actually invested in a course, in a program, in a membership, something like that. It was like, hey, now you're in, by the way, this is a thing that you've helped help do. And I kind of like that because it was like, oh, it's a little nice surprise for them. And I thought this might fund a few sessions. It'd be quite a cool thing. It's not been quite 12 months and this thing has worked way, way better than I ever expected. It's been way more successful than I could have even hoped. We've actually the time recording this a couple of days before we hit the 300 mark. We have funded over 300 speech therapy sessions for kids at this center now, which is insane. I am like, beyond overjoyed with how it's gone. It's quite overwhelming. And it's all come from the people who've supported me, who've supported patient centered training. I couldn't have done this without these people. So if you're watching this and you're one of my members and you're somebody I've worked with, thank you so much because you've made this possible. But I didn't. I didn't talk about it publicly. I didn't put it out there. And this has started to eat at me a little bit recently because there's a quote that I heard years ago and I've always tried to live by since I'm going to mangle it. But it basically goes along the lines of like, there's nothing enlightened about playing small because you're worried about what other people will think, because you're worried about making other people feel bad with your success. So the basic idea is that, you know, not going all out, not doing everything you can because you're worried other people will think, oh, who do you think you are. That's not enlightenment. That's cowardice, and that's fear. And it came back to me when we hit that 300 mark. I was like, this is so cool. Like, I can't believe we did this. And then thought, isn't it weird that we've done this amazing thing and I'm keeping this a secret? I'm still not sharing. Because if I'm honest, the reason. Part of the reason at the start, definitely reason. Until now, I haven't shared it is fear. Kind of thought, what? Like, it's a huge thing to me, and part me is a little bit afraid. What if I put it out there and I tell people and they're like, oh, well, that's not so great. Or if they're like, oh, I see. You're just. This is like a marketing thing. You're trying to show us how, like, generous and charitable you are and stuff like that, which it really, really isn't. So I've been worried about that. I've been worried about, what if it was seen as a failure? What if people read it the wrong way? And because of that, I played the safe option and I played small. And I only told people about this once they were part of the inner circle. And I haven't publicized it at all. And I've realized that that's why I'm doing that. It's easy to tell myself it's a noble thing. Oh, look at me. I'm being super altruistic. I'm not using this to, like, market my business like I could. I'm not shouting it from the rooftops. I'm being really humble. I'm not being humble when I do this. It's. It's fear. It's cowardice, basically. So that's. That's what I wanted to put this news that I'm out to say. It's like, first of all, to come clean and say, I haven't been living up to that. That's a standard that I've shared with many people, and it's a quote I've shared with many people, and it's something I try to live up to. But in all honesty, I haven't been perfect at it all the time, and I still make mistakes. And sometimes the things I might put in a newsletter are things that I don't do perfectly too. So first of all, this is that message of me kind of owning that and admitting that and being open with you guys. And also to say, like, it's. I know this happens to other people. As well. It's okay if that's you, too. And don't think that just because I'm putting, like these newsletters out twice a week and sharing all this advice and all these tactics and all these techniques and things, it doesn't mean that I've got everything locked down and everything's perfect. Like, don't get me wrong, I'm incredibly grateful for my life. I'm incredibly grateful for the things I get to do, the way I get to work with people. But it does not mean I have got everything together. But the other reason is I thought, you know what, 300 speech therapies, and that's a huge milestone. That's way beyond what I even dreamed we could achieve in the first year here. That's something worth celebrating. And it's not something I've done. It's not like I've gone out there and given this. You know, I've done this through the help of everybody involved in the Patient Centered tribe and the Patient Centered community. So this isn't me. This isn't me bragging about myself. This is me sharing that I'm super grateful to all the people who've helped me do that. So if that's you, thank you so much. If that's not you, there's a way you can get involved as well. Because, yes, whenever somebody purchases something from me or automatically some of the funds go to allocate to one or more speech therapy sessions. The other thing that happens, though, is if people leave a review on my Facebook page, it automatically allocates the same funding from my account to that as well. So if you found these newsletters helpful, if you found maybe we've chatted online, maybe you've come to a couple of my webinars or seminars or whatever it might be. If you found this stuff helpful and you want to give back and you want to pay it forward, by all means, please do leave a review on the Facebook page. It helps me, obviously. But at this point, I don't need many more testimonials or reviews. I've got lots, all the social proof and marketing speak I really need there. But you can actually help support this endeavor. You can help support. It's called the Tony Hawk's center for Children in Moldova. Tony Hawk's the writer, not Tony Hawk's the skateboarder. I'm sure Tony Hawk's the skateboarder does some cool stuff too, but it's not that Tony Hawks. I'll put a link in the. In the email to this. I'll put a link below so you can see a little bit more about how you can get involved. There's different ways you can do it as well, but I wanted to share that because I realized that I wasn't living up to my standard. I was keeping this thing a secret and I was doing it out of fear. I was doing it for the wrong reasons. And so I wanted to share that with you. It's part of my process, part of my growth, to not play small, to actually go out there and share the cool stuff that's been happening, but also to say thank you. Thank you. Thank you to all the people who've supported me, anyone who has got involved in any small way. Even if you didn't realize until this video, anytime you bought something from me, there was a little link in an email I would have sent you. But I know it's easy to miss, so some of you might have contributed without even knowing that as well. Anyway, that's it for this video. I've missed doing video. I really like the writing of the newsletters, but I want to get back to some more videos as well. So you'll see me very, very soon. In the meantime, if you'd like to find out more, you can check out the link below. Otherwise, I'll see you soon. Take care. You can tell I'm out of practice because I don't know how to stop.
