A checklist doesn't have to be a list with boxes. American Airlines' check-in system is a checklist too: it guides you through critical steps to verify your boarding pass is correct. The form doesn't matter. The step-by-step verification does.

Checklists are an amazing way to make sure things always get done right. This is actually a form of a checklist. When I checked in for my flight on American, they highlighted all the critical elements to make sure this pass was the right pass for me. You don't have to have a checklist in the traditional format with checks. You can simply have a procedure that is basically a check-off checklist.
