A brief transcript excerpt of Charles Hudson reflecting on the advantages of being a generalist. He describes how being inexperienced in some domains lets him ask genuine 'why' questions, learn from explanations, and enjoy probing the reasoning behind decisions.

And one of the nice things about being a noob in some of these categories is when someone says, well, we're going to do this thing, you're like, why? And like, what do you mean, why? I'm like, I don't know anything. What's explained to me, this is not Socratic. I'm genuinely interested in understanding how you reach that conclusion. And I find that's one of the things I enjoy most about being a generalist, is that it's this license to just ask a lot of why questions out of a place of really actually wanting to know the answer.
