A woman discovered through genetic testing that she can't metabolize fats efficiently and absorbs B12 poorly from food. Her ancestors didn't eat beef, so sublingual B12 supplements work better for her than pills. Small genetic tweaks like this can transform health outcomes.

I don't metabolize fats well. It's a big problem for me and my insulin response is horrible. And ultimately fat becomes glucose if you don't use it as fuel. And so it's triggering my insulin. It was making me feel really bad. I kept getting tested for B12 and it was always low. I was like, no, I'm taking my B12. I don't understand what's wrong here. So genetically I don't have the genes to actually metabolize B12 in my gut. So my ancestors didn't eat beef. There's a very specific form of B12 that comes from beef, and that's not what I do. Instead, I need it sublingually under the tongue. So simple tweaks that make all the difference that you would never think of unless you understand that map that tells you how your body works.
