Craig Wear argues that Roth conversions work better as a lifelong strategy than annual decisions. Year-by-year planning misses substantial tax-saving opportunities that emerge only when you look at the full picture across decades.
Tax planning isn't something that should be done year by year when you're looking at Roth conversions. And I appreciate my CPA and the people that have helped me do the returns for all, over all the years. You know, I do want to pay attention to what's happening this year, but really we're talking about tax planning is a lifetime event. It's one of those things that you, you plan for what's going to happen over your lifetime. Because when you open the lens and you don't get too focused on this year, what you discover, there's a tremendous amount of tax that you can avoid if you plan for it properly.
