Reactive Dog Rose - Training Day 2

Trainer Speaker A works with Rose, a reactive and anxious dog, on day two of her training. Using toy play and quiet environments, the trainer builds trust and watches Rose gradually show more confidence, chasing and engaging with toys instead of reacting to distractions.

Welcome to our Drive Series. I'm out here working with Rose. Rose has just entered our Ultimate Package and this is day 2 for her. So yesterday I did a short eval on her, just trying to get a feel for her. Um, today I took her out on two walks, not really putting any pressure on her or anything. Um, a little background on her, she's a bit reactive, has shown some aggressive tendencies. I think has a bite in there. I'd have to look back through the files. You know, there's definitely some anxiety. As far as I've seen yesterday, she wasn't really comfortable with everything that's been going on, um, and especially being separated from her owner. So all I'm doing is I'm just kind of letting her be herself. I got some good glimpses, um, out on our walks where I found some moments that I feel I could really capitalize on. And, you know, just getting her comfortable with me before I start really getting into the training process. Typically the first 3 to 5 days I'm just kind of get a feel for a dog, for the dog itself, see what behaviors she's going to give me, and, uh, see where we can go from there. And like, even now she's a lot more comfortable than before. She's a bit anxious, she sees some stuff going on. And I can't get anything going here, I might kind of take us back to that sweet spot over there by the river and really get us away from this noise and see if we can get some interaction. But All I'm really focused— all I'm going to really focus on is see if I can get some engagement and really see if I could start building some play with her. Um, because that play is going to build a lot of trust and it can help me set boundaries, right? So let's see what we got. My mama. Oh, she's showing some interest, and this is a lot more than I got before from her. Oh, look at this. All right, she's not quite there yet. I'll toss it off to the side, see if she takes the bait. Nope. But so far I've only seen a little bit of reactivity out of her. I think when we were actually going on a walk back there, she did, uh, give us some barks and some growls. See, she had a little bit of interest there, but, uh, maybe no. It seems like what's— whatever's going on over there has her occupied. We're still kind of, uh, we're about 100 feet away from, uh, other people training and stuff, so Hey mama! See, when I first got her out, I couldn't get that kind of, uh, response. What I really found is when I get her running, I really get something out of her. I get a bit of focus. All right, see, this is good. I like that. Oh, hey, that a girl! Look at that! Come on! Oh yeah, come on, Mama! Oh yeah, oh yeah, that a girl! Oh, come on. Oh yeah. I almost wonder if we took her a little bit outside because she keeps looking back there up where everyone's training at. And I almost wonder if that's what's kind of holding her back. You see, something happens off in the distance and then she stops interacting. But this is still an improvement from before where she's giving me some chase. She's chasing after the toy, but she wasn't committing to it. She wasn't biting at it. I didn't get that prey shake or anything like that. You see, movement's really important, right? Even when she's distracted over there. Anna, girl, come on, come on. Yeah. Oh yeah. Come on, play with me. And I know she could play because the owner plays with her. The owner does a really good job playing with her, and I know she enjoys it. So this right here, her being able to interact with me like that, And it's not much, you know, we're not playing tug, we're not getting super in it, into it, but just that little piece there shows that, okay, she's starting to let her guard down with me. We're gonna go ahead and change spots, keep it in the same set, so hold tight. We got a completely different dog now, right? I think we're going to continue on with this series with Rosie and check out some of her progress. I think it'd be really good you guys to even take a look at some of her interactions that she's had with people.
