board of directors is a formalized thing in big corporations, but small businesses often don't have this formalized, even though they essentially do have a board of directors or board of advisors, but they don't have it formalized. So they're not kind of getting any kind of benefit in a legal or tax sense.
Please don't think that your business is too small or too new to have a board of advisors. You need these folks to encourage you, to let you know when you have good ideas and to let you know when you have bad ideas, because Once in a while that does happen. They're the ones who are going to help you set your vision and your goals for the company. If you're going to turn your small company into a big company, you definitely need a board of advisors to help you do that. This board are not employees of the company. They're there for you as the manager of this company. So they would not have any liability to the company. They would not be under the control of the company. They would not be taking paychecks from the company. They're there for you, the manager.
