Daniel Pink says roughly 10% of your followers will dislike you, and that's fine. A leader needs allies and adversaries. Trying to please everyone means you're not making tough calls.

Want to be a better leader? Make sure 10% of people hate your guts. I'm serious about this. Bob Sutton at Stanford says that we need a long list of friends, but we also need a short list of enemies. Yeah, it pays to be agreeable. There's an evolutionary advantage. If the tribe likes you, they're more likely to protect you from that saber-toothed tiger. But if everyone likes you, you're doing it wrong. You're not taking tough stands. You're playing it too safe. This is a big idea. I just hope 10% of you hate it.
