Pick one task each day and do it first before anything else. Write it down, call it your MIT, and finish it before checking email or other work. This simple method costs nothing and sharpens what actually gets done.

A few years ago, I learned a trick that helped me immeasurably and didn't cost me a dime. It's called the MIT. MIT. It doesn't stand for that prestigious school up in Cambridge, Massachusetts. No, it stands for most important task. MIT. Most important task. So every day when I put together my list of things to do for that day, at the very top I put my MIT. What's my most important task? I figure that out. I memorialize it on paper. And I do that. That task first. So give this a try, folks. You don't have to get into MIT to be able to use your MIT.
