Daniel Rosen explains how to ask creditors to remove late payments from your credit report. Write a polite letter explaining why you missed the payment and commit to paying on time going forward. Your account must be current first, and there's no guarantee they'll agree, but it's worth trying.

Late payments can seem super scary, but I'm going to share a little secret with you. Believe it or not, all it takes to remove late payments is a little creativity and empathy and a process called a goodwill deletion. A goodwill deletion is a request, not a demand where you politely ask the creditor to remove a late payment by explaining the very good reason that you missed the payment and by promising to make payments on time in the future. A creditor will only consider your goodwill deletion request if the account is current mean meaning there is no past due amount. Now most of us have missed a payment or two, but just because you were late doesn't mean it should haunt your credit for years to come. So put in the effort, use a little creativity and apply polite pressure. More often than not you'll get the results you need. And if you do this for a credit repair client, they'll love you for it.
