In this segment Daniel Rosen and Speaker B discuss why growing a business from zero to $100 K is far more challenging than scaling from $100 K to $1 M. They use a vivid "stepping on Legos" metaphor to illustrate the darkness and uncertainty of the early stage, where founders constantly stumble over unknown obstacles and must fail repeatedly before finding a viable path. The conversation emphasizes that most startups quit after a few failures, but embracing the suck—persistently iterating, learning from each mistake, and refusing to tire of failure—leads to breakthroughs. Practical tactics are suggested: experimenting with multiple strategies, seeking mentors who have already mapped the “Legos,” hiring experienced people, and learning through hands‑on trial, exemplified by a personal story of repeatedly failing at Facebook ads until the speaker finally cracked the code. The core message is that $0‑to‑$100 K is a marathon of trial‑and‑error; once the obstacles are identified, scaling beyond $100 K becomes a matter of navigating known terrain.

You said 0 to 100,000 is much harder than 100,000 to a million, because from 100,000 up, you're only solving one problem at a time. Can you break that down?
You don't know what you don't know from 0 to 100,000. It's like you're, you're walking in the dark, right? Sometimes I have to wake up in the middle of the night. My wife wants some water because I didn't fill up her water bottle, her water jug, and it's dark, and I'm taking one little step at a time, and then I trip over one of my kids' toys, and then I step on a Lego, and then there's shoes on the stairs that almost make me break my neck. That's 0 to 100K. You're taking one little step at a time while stepping on Legos, right? 100K to a million, you already know where all the Legos are, so you just have to navigate around them. It's like you're turning on the light and you can see everything. There's the toys, there's the shoes, there's the Legos. But 0 to 100K, you're taking one step at a time and you don't know if it's going to be a safe step or if it's going to be a Lego there. You ever step on one of your kids' Legos? It's the worst. That's what growing a business $0 to $100K is, cuz you don't know what you're about to encounter. And then you have to fail and then you fail and then you fail and then you find the, the answer and you succeed and then you move on. What happens though, and this is the reason why most businesses shut down within 2 years, is because they get tired of failing, so they quit. I never get tired of failing. Like I, I embrace failure because that means that there's something worth it on the other side. So I don't care how many times I'm gonna fail. I'm gonna fail until I figure it out. Right. You have to embrace the suck, embrace the suck, fail until you succeed. Right now, there's other ways that you can go around, right? Get mentors, hire, you know, people who've gone down the path with you, who know where the Legos are and they can show you that can fast-track your success. But not everybody can do that. So step on the Legos and step on the Legos and step on the Legos until you figure out where they are and then you grow your business. So what does that look like? Results. For example, I don't know how to dispute. Okay, well, try this strategy. And if that doesn't work, okay, then try that strategy. Okay. If that doesn't work, then try this. Eventually you're gonna find something that works great. Now you, you failed and you failed and you failed and you failed, and now you succeeded. So now you know, and you never have to fail at that again. Move on to the next thing, right? Marketing, man, I'm running ads and I can't get my leads suck, or my cost per, per acquisition is too high. Failed at running ads for a very long time. I spent tens and tens of thousands of dollars paying ad agencies to run ads for me, and it never worked. And I finally understood that they don't know what I know. They have never talked to a client who needs bread or pay a day in our lives. Yeah, I want them to market to those. It has to be me. I didn't know the first thing about running ads, so I failed and I failed and I failed, and I got ad accounts shut down, and I had to create new Facebook profiles. I failed until I succeeded, and then I cracked the code. I was like, now I, I know how to do this. But it was after much, much, much failure that taught me, though. I knew what not to do, and that's the only way to find out what to do, is by finding out what not to do first, you know. So that's, that's the reality of $0 to $100K. $0 to $100K is just failing until you succeed.
