How to Build Credit From Scratch in 2026 (The Service Your Business Is Missing)

Daniel Rosen explains why credit repair businesses should offer rent reporting to clients. Reporting 24 months of rent payments can add 20-40 points to a thin credit file, and the service costs $49.99 one-time with a $10 commission per client for the repair business.

I'm the founder of Credit Repair Cloud, which is the software that most credit repair businesses in America run on. But I first learned about credit years ago when a bank error messed up my credit and ruined my life. So if this is your first time listening to my podcast, Every week I give credit repair tips and advice on bootstrapping your business from nothing. So be sure to click subscribe now and get ready to change lives. Okay, let's get into this. In the 20 years since releasing my first credit repair software, I've helped thousands of businesses scale from the ground up, and I've experienced many of the same challenges that credit heroes face, and I've learned proven ways to overcome them and succeed. And We get really, really good at one half of this job, but there's a second half that we don't talk about nearly enough. It's the difference between a quick win and actually changing someone's life for good. So today we're talking about credit building, helping your clients build a strong file from the ground up and how to build it from scratch, okay? And here's the key I want you to hold on to this whole way through. This is not a separate thing from the credit repair work you already do. This is the other half of it. Credit repair clears the past, but building creates the future, and most of your clients need both. Now stick with me here, because when we're done, I'm going to give you the exact words, word for word, on how to offer this to a client and get an instant yes. But first, Here's why this matters so much. Here's something I think most of us never stop to think about. We get so focused on fixing what's broken and deleting the negatives and cleaning up the past, and that's beautiful life-changing work. Think about what actually happens after you win. You get those negative items off their report, the client is thrilled, but a lot of times they're only left with a thin file and not much positive history. And their score can only climb so high because there's nothing there to build on. So the job is not really finished. Cleaning up the past was only half of it. Now they need to build the future. And here's the bigger picture. There are millions of people out there searching for exactly this. They're not typing credit repair, they're typing how to build credit from scratch. It's one of the fastest growing searches in all of Google. Some of them are brand new clients that you could bring in, but a whole lot of them, they're the clients you already have. When we first started putting out content about credit building, it did about 7 times our normal numbers. So trust me, the need is real, and a lot of it is sitting right inside your own client list. Here's the thing to remember: repair and building They aren't two different businesses. They are two halves of the same mission. Repair fixes the past, building creates the future, and your client isn't truly done until you've done both. You get the negatives off and then you help them to build something strong to put in their place. And that's the full transformation. That's what changing a life actually looks like. Here's why this is important. If you have a credit repair business, let's talk about what this means for you and your business, because it is big. Think about it. Every single client you finish credit repair for, they're already a perfect fit for credit building. You don't have to go find them. You don't have to run ads. You don't have to earn their trust all over again. They already know you. They've already watched you get them results. So credit building is the most natural next step that you could possibly offer, and it means more revenue from clients you already have. And here's the part that really matters: credit repair has an ending, right? The items come off, the job is done, and the relationship is over. But credit building is ongoing. It's a reason that your client stays with you and pays you month after month instead of walking away. So you go from constantly chasing the next client to growing a base of clients who stick around. Their score keeps climbing, they stay happy, they send you referrals, and your business gets steadier and stronger every single month. And don't lose the heart of it. You are also taking your client all the way to the finish line instead of stopping halfway. You're helping people fully and building something that lasts at the exact same time. Here's what you need to know. Now, I'm gonna break this down because people make credit building sound way more complicated than it really is. What actually moves a credit score comes down to 3 things, okay? Number 1, on-time payments every single time. That's the biggest one by far. Number 2, low utilization. You gotta keep those credit card balances under 30%. And number 3, a little variety and some age built up over time. And that's really it. So all building means is feeding those 3 things, especially that first one, the payment history. So how do you feed them? Well, there are basically 2 ways. First, your client opens a small new account or a secured card or a credit builder loan, and their on-time payments get reported to the bureaus. And the second, and this is the one I love, you take a bill that the client is already paying and you get that payment history reported. So there's no new debt, no new anything, and no risk. And that second one is the easiest yes that you'll ever get. So let me ask you, what is the biggest bill that your client is already paying every single month that's been doing absolutely nothing for their credit. It's their rent. Now, if you're using Credit Hero Score, we've made this really simple with a tool called Build Credit Rent, and I'm going to walk you through it. But even if you're not on it yet, I want you to understand the strategy, because strategy is what matters. Here's what it does. Your client's on-time rent gets reported as credit history. And it's not just going forward. No, they can actually backfill up to 24 months of past rent. So that's 2 whole years of positive history showing up on the file, with results usually showing in about 30 days. And it's low risk by design because only on-time payments get reported. There is no new debt. And nothing for your client to be scared of. And it has real potential to move the score. Our early estimates put it at somewhere around 20 to 40 points. And I'd never promise you an exact number, but you can see why it's become such an easy yes. Now, here's a pro move. Once that rent is reporting, for a really well-rounded file, pair it with one revolving account like a secured card and keep it under 30%. Remember those 3 things from earlier? Well, the rent takes care of the payment history, the card adds the mix, and then you put them together and that is a score that really climbs. And yeah, there's a business upside for you too. And I'm not going to pretend that there isn't. For your client, it's a one-time $49.99 for the 24-month backfill. And then after that, it's just $5.99 a month. And then you earn a little something too. You get a $10 commission on every single client who enrolls with no cap. But here's what you need to know: that's not why you offer it. You offer it because it genuinely helps your client. The income, that's just what happens when you take really good care of people. And the best part is there is no setup, there's nothing complicated, and if you're on Credit Hero Score, It's already right there waiting for you to use it. Now, let me put some real numbers on that because I don't want to be vague. That $10 commission, it has no cap. So if you enroll 50 clients this year, that is $500 that didn't exist before. And if you enroll 100, that's $1,000. But here's where the real money is, and I want you to really hear this part. It's not the commission, it's the retention. Think about whatever you charge a client every month. If credit building gives that client reason to stay with you even 3 or 4 extra months instead of walking the day their last deletion comes through, that is the real money. Run your own math. Your monthly rate times a few extra months times a good chunk of your client list, and that dwarfs the commission every single time. Sure, the commission is a nice bonus, but the retention, that is the business. Now I'm gonna get tactical with you for just a second because I don't just want you to know about this, I want you to actually use it this week. So here's exactly how you offer it. First, who is it perfect for? It's perfect for anybody who rents, especially your thin file clients, the ones who don't have much credit history. And for the clients you've already gotten some deletions for where the negatives are finally coming off, but now the score needs something positive to grow on. That right there is your list. Second, When do you bring this up? You bring it up right after a win. You bring it up the moment you've just deleted something and your client is all fired up and they trust you. That is the moment. You just say, "Okay, we just cleaned up your past. Now let's build your future." And third, here's literally what you say, so write this down. You are already paying rent every single month, right? Well, what if we made that rent actually build your credit up to 2 years of it, starting in about 30 days. That's it. That's the whole pitch. And the second they say yes, you've just turned a bill they were already paying into a stronger score for them and into recurring income for you. Here's my final point. Don't think of credit building as some new business that you gotta go start from scratch. Instead, think of it as finishing the job you already started. You've already cleaned up your client's past. Now go help them to build their future and add it right alongside your credit repair service and lead with R.E.N.T. because it's the easiest yes that there is and offer it first to the clients you've already got. Because every client you help with credit building, they aren't just one more life you're changing. No, it's a client who stays. It's a score that keeps climbing and a business that gets stronger every single month. And I'll end by saying, if you still need a Credit Repair Cloud account, check it out.
