Daniel Rosen walks through how to remove medical debt from credit reports using a five-step system. Hey, credit heroes. Medical collections have been the wild west of credit repair for years. But get ready. The rules are changing again. And if you're not prepared, you could miss out on some of the easiest wins that you'll see all year. Today, I'm breaking down the newest medical collection rules. How they impact your strategies and the exact steps that you can take to get faster deletions. Plus, I'm going to share the one medical collection loophole that most credit repair pros completely miss. And it could mean the difference between a 50 point boost and 100 point boost. So you better stick around. My name is Daniel Rosen and welcome to credit Repair Business Secrets. Did you know that medical debt is the number one source of collections on credit reports? We're talking about 58% of all third party collection accounts. Let me put that into perspective for you. That means that more than half of all collections dragging down credit scores are from medical bills. Not credit cards, not car loans, but medical bills. And here's what makes me angry. Most of these medical collections shouldn't even be on the credit report in the first place. We're talking about people who got sick, had emergencies, or dealt with insurance nightmares. These aren't people who went on shopping sprees. No, these are regular folks like you or me who got caught in our broken health care system. But here's the good news. And it's why you need to pay attention. The credit bureaus and the regulators are finally acknowledging that medical debt is different from other types of debt. Starting in 2023, all three credit bureaus, Equifax, Experian and TransUnion, they all stopped reporting paid medical collections. That means if you paid off that old emergency room bill, it should be gone from your credit report and no more haunting you for seven years after it's already paid. They also stopped reporting medical collections under $500. So those small bills that slip through the cracks. Gone. But here's what's new and what you really need to know. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is pushing for even bigger changes. They're working on removing all medical collections from credit reports, regardless of the amount. We're not there yet, but it's coming. More importantly, right now, there is a one year waiting period for before any medical collection can appear on a credit report. It gives consumers a full year to work with insurance companies and healthcare providers before it ever touches your credit report. And here's the kicker that most people don't know. Starting in 2025, many lenders are beginning to ignore medical collections entirely. When making lending decisions even if they are still on the credit report. This is especially true for mortgage lenders using newer FICO scoring models. But wait, there's more. The new regulations also require that medical debt collectors provide more documentation than ever before. They can't just say you owe this. No, they now have to prove it with itemized bills, insurance, explanation of benefits, and proof that they properly notified the consumer. Okay, let's talk strategy. How do you actually use these changes to help? Here is my proven five step system for tackling medical collections the right way. Step 1 Always verify the date first. If it's within that one year window, dispute it immediately based on the new reporting requirements. Step 2 Check if it's been paid. Even partially paid medical debts might qualify for removal if you can get documentation showing that a payment arrangement was made. Step 3 Look for HIPAA violations. This is the secret weapon that most credit repair pros miss. Medical providers and collection agencies must be extremely careful about what information they share. If they've included any medical information in the collection details, that is a potential HIPAA violation and grounds for immediate removal. Step four Dispute with the original provider, not just the collection agency. Many times medical providers will recall the debt from collections if you can show that there was an insurance issue or billing error. And Step five Always, always, always request an itemized bill from the medical provider. You'd be surprised at how many errors there are. Duplicate charges, services never rendered, Incorrect insurance processing. Each error is leveraged for deletion. Lots of people treat medical collections like any other collection account. They send the same generic dispute letters and hope for the best. But that's leaving money on the table. Here's what the pros know. Medical collections have unique vulnerabilities that make them easier to remove than almost any other type of negative account. The validation requirements for medical debt are incredibly strict. The debt collector must be able to prove not just that the debt exists, but that they have the legal right to collect it, that all HIPAA requirements have been followed and that insurance was properly billed. Medical billing is notoriously complex and error prone. Studies show that up to 80% of medical bills contain errors. And 80%. That is a crazy amount of errors. But here's the real hidden opportunity, and this is gold. Medical providers are often willing to completely delete collections in exchange for payment or even partial payment. Unlike credit card companies or auto lenders, medical providers just want to get paid something they don't care about. Teaching anyone a lesson. I've seen clients get get $10,000 medical collections completely deleted for settlements of $1,000 or less and with the agreement that it gets removed from all credit reports. You just need to know how to negotiate it properly and get it in writing. Now, if you're a credit repair professional helping clients with their credit, or if you're just getting started in the credit repair business, here is exactly what you need to do this week to to take advantage of these new medical collection rules. Action Step Number one Run a medical collection audit on all your current clients. Create a simple spreadsheet with client name, medical collections, found, amount paid or unpaid, status and date of first delinquency and this becomes your hit list. Action Step number two Create three new letter templates specifically for medical collections. One for collections that violate the new one year rule, one for paid medical collections still reporting, and one for HIPAA related disputes. Action Step three Educate your clients. Send an email blast explaining these new changes because most people have no idea that these rules exist. So position yourself as the expert who is on top of the latest changes and this builds trust and it can lead to referrals. Action Step Number four Update your intake process. Add specific questions about medical collections, insurance coverage, and whether they've received itemized bills. Because the more information you gather up front, the stronger your disputes will be. Action Step number five Build relationships with patient advocates at local hospitals. These people can be gold mines for helping to resolve billing disputes before they hit credit reports. Plus, they can refer patients to you who are dealing with medical collection issues. And here's a bonus Action step Create a medical debt emergency plan. As a lead magnet, outline the steps that someone should take the moment they receive a medical bill that they can't pay. This positions you as the authority and it brings in leads who are highly motivated to fix their credit. And here's my final point. Medical collections used to be the hardest items to remove from credit reports, but now they've become your biggest opportunity. This is your chance to change lives in a big way while everyone else is sending the same generic disputes. From 2022, you'll be the credit hero who actually understands the new rules, knows the loopholes, and gets results that blow minds. Every medical collection that you remove doesn't just boost a credit score, it changes someone's life. It's the difference between a family getting approved for a home or that family staying stuck as renters. And so pull those credit reports today. Start disputing and take action because your future is too important to let medical debt hold you back any longer.
