The 4 Things to Check on Every Credit Report (Before You Dispute)

Daniel Rosen outlines a four-step audit to perform on every credit report before disputing: verify identity and accounts, check positive accounts and credit utilization under 30%, examine negative items and the Date of First Delinquency, and cross-check Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion for inconsistencies. Skipping this audit wastes time and client trust; doing it right generates referrals and revenue.

Hey, Credit Heroes! There are 4 things that you gotta check on every credit report before you dispute anything. And here's the crazy part: most Credit Heroes, they only check 1 or 2. Now, everyone's chasing the same stuff— the perfect letter, the magic template, the secret loophole— but these 4 things, they're sitting right there in the report, and people skip right past them. And it's costing you results and it's costing you referrals. If you miss even one, then round one falls apart. But if you check all four first, then every round gets easier. So stick with me. I'm gonna show you what these four things are, why they make or break round one, and how Credit Repair Cloud does most of the work for you. So you better stick around. My name is Daniel Rosen and welcome to Credit Repair Business Secrets. If this is your first time listening to my podcast, I'm Daniel Rosen. I'm the founder of Credit Repair Cloud, which is the software that most credit repair businesses in America run on. And every week I give credit repair tips and advice on bootstrapping your business from nothing. So be sure to click subscribe now and get ready to start changing lives. Okay, let's get into this. In the 20 years since releasing my first credit repair software, I've helped thousands of businesses scale from the ground up, and I've experienced many of the same challenges that credit heroes face, and I've learned proven ways to overcome them and succeed. So today we're talking about the credit audit, reading your client's whole credit file before you dispute a single thing, and how the simple audit built right into Credit Repair Cloud does all the heavy lifting for you. Because this right here is the step that separates the credit heroes who get real fast results from the ones who stay stuck sending letter letter wondering why nothing's happening. Here's the thing about this business, okay? We all love the exciting parts, the deletions, the big score jumps, and the wins, but the win doesn't start there. No, it starts with a quiet little step that almost no one talks about and that most credit heroes underestimate, and I see that mistake constantly. A new client comes in, and I want you to really, really picture this, okay? Because this is a real person who's counting on you. Maybe they're trying to buy their first home for their family. Maybe they're digging out from under something that's been keeping them up at night. And the credit hero with the best intentions in the world opens up that report, sees a whole bunch of negatives, grabs a template, and then just starts firing off disputes, everything at once. And it feels productive, right? It feels like you're helping. But then 30 days later, the responses all come back and half of it says verified and everything just stops. Because there was never a plan. They were reacting instead of strategizing. And that client, the one who is counting on them, they start to lose faith. And to me, that's the saddest thing in this whole business, because it didn't have to happen. Here's the thing to remember. I want you to really pay attention to this one. The audit is your strategy. It's not the step before the strategy. It is the strategy. Before you dispute one single item, you need to read the whole file top to bottom. You ask questions and you get all the details from your client because round one, that sets the direction for the entire case, okay? If you get round one right, then every round after gets much easier. But if you get it wrong, then you're gonna spend months sending rounds that you never needed to send in the first place. And every one of those months is a month that your client is sitting there waiting for the life change that you promised them. Now, why should you actually care about this? What does this matter to you and to your business? Well, here it is. A SMART round 1, one that's built on a real audit, that's what gets your client fast results. And fast results, that's the name of the whole game, right? Because think about the chain here. Fast results change your client's life. A client whose life you change becomes a raving fan. And a raving fan tells everyone they know. That's your referrals. That's your reputation. That's your business growing without you spending a dime on ads. So when you do the audit first, you're not just being thorough, you are literally building your business and helping more people at the very same time. Because the audit is where changing lives and making a great living become the exact same thing. And here's the flip side, okay? When you skip that audit, you don't just lose a little time. No, you lose the result, you lose the client's trust, you lose the referral, and you lose the income that came with it. And that is a very expensive shortcut. So let's actually put this to work. And don't worry, you don't have to memorize any of this because in a minute I'm going to show you how Credit Repair Cloud does it for you. So A real audit breaks down into 4 things that you're looking at, okay? And here's the truth: most credit heroes only ever check 1 or 2 of these. So do this in order every time. Step 1: The identity layer. This is the personal information. It's the names, the addresses, the employers, and any old or mixed-up data. And don't skip this thinking it's just paperwork, because errors up here are how files get mixed up together and Sometimes you'll find whole accounts that aren't even your clients. So take a really deep look and fix the foundation first. Two, what is helping? Before you touch anything, find the good, open, and positive accounts because those you want to protect. You do not want to dispute those, okay? And this is where you check utilization. How much of their available credit are they using? You want them under 30% because utilization is one of the biggest pieces of the whole score. And a lot of times getting a client to pay a card down under that line gives you a faster jump than any dispute ever could. 3. What is the damage? Now the negatives, the late payments, the charge-offs, the collections. And you're not just noting that they're there, no, you are checking the balances, who actually owns the debt, and whether the same account is getting reported twice. And the big one, the date of first delinquency, the DOFD. That date starts the 7-year clock. So if something's reporting past its time, or if somebody re-aged the old debt to reset that clock, that item has to come off. 4, the cross-check. Now you want to put Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion side by side because they don't always match. And when the same account shows one balance here and a different one there, or a different status or a different date, that inconsistency right there, that's your dispute. A furnisher is supposed to report the same accurate information to all 3 bureaus every single time. Now here's the good news, okay? This is the part I really want you to hear. You do not have to do this all by hand. Inside Credit Repair Cloud, you can just click Import Audit, you pick your template, and the simple audit reads that whole report and lays it all out there very neatly. And I love this because it's not just a tool for you. You can actually turn around and show that audit to a new customer, and now they can see with their very own eyes exactly where they stand and exactly why they need you. And it gets even better. If your client signs up through your self-service signup page, a credit assessment report is generated and waiting right there in their profile the moment they onboard. So the audit is basically done before you even get on the phone with them. How great is that? And then, and only then, once you actually know the file, now you dispute. You want to start with the path of least resistance, which is verification. You put the burden of proof on the bureau or the furnisher to verify the item, and you're going to be amazed. You'll be truly amazed at how many items just fall right off simply because no one responds within 30 days. And then when you've got a real factual error, something that's inaccurate or outdated or incomplete, that's where you factually dispute it and you include your proof. And that, my friend, is the whole thing. You audit the file, then you dispute it in the right order. And it really is that simple once you do it in the right sequence. Here's my final point, and I really want this to stick with you. You audit first, first, so you actually know the file that you're working with, and then you dispute second in the right order with the right method. And when those responses come back in 30 or 45 days, you're not going to freeze and you're not going to panic and you're not going to guess because you already had a plan from day one. Your client gets their results faster, they trust you more, they tell their friends, and you get to do the exact thing you got into this business for in the first place, which is to change people's lives. Isn't that so much better than just throwing letters at the wall and hoping? And I'll end by saying, if you still need a Credit Repair Cloud account, check it out.
