Professor Aldo Faisal describes AI systems that work continuously in hospitals to handle operational tasks. A multimodal model that processes conversations and patient data can predict mortality far more accurately than standard language models, suggesting ambient intelligence could transform healthcare operations.

The real big wave that's going to wash over the whole field is now we call ambient intelligence and the whole space of AI for operational improvements. So that's not medical activity per se, but, for example, transcribing the conversation between a doctor and the patient. So we have already a basic model that is multimodal. It combines different forms of data and different timescales already, and it shows that it can predict outcomes for certain patients much, much more accurately than reference language, model derived reasoning or other forms of, you know, conventional machine learning based predictions, for example, about the mortality of a patient.
