Fivetran's COO explains the modern data stack: a cloud warehouse at the center where data loads first, then transforms (ELT instead of ETL). Analytics, orchestration, and data tools sit on top, all built around the warehouse as the core.

What I would define the modern data stack is, is a cloud based data warehouse or storage layer, generally data warehouse. And you know, you're taking data and loading that into the data warehouse from all the different places that you have it. And then you're building tooling on top of data warehouse and you're doing more of an ELT versus ETL type workload. So in other words, like, we can go into the history, if you want, of, of like all the different stacks in the past, but, but essentially the order of operations is different than what it was prior, which is you extract, you load, then you transform and you build this whole ecosystem on top of the data warehouse. And that's in my definition would be the modern data stack.
