Fossil decided to take us to one last place on our winter wandering of the Gippsland area of Victoria, and that was this amazing free campsite in Lake Tyers. There's water hookups, there's power, there's hot showers, there's flushing toilets, and there's a tavern that has just about everything you could need that you can go down and have a hot meal. Here's the beach and the sandbar that separates the ocean from the lake, Lake Tyre, and then across the lake you can see the tavern. And the campsite is behind the tavern. It is just a big dirt car park, but the views and the walks and the food are worth— and the showers and the power— are worth the stay. Here's walking down onto the lake. Here's walking to the tavern, and there's the entrance to the tavern. We went in there and had lovely pizza, and then on our walk back to our caravan, we saw this little guy who lives here. I think that might even be the hole he lives in, or at least where he goes for a feed. That's his tavern. And he loves sitting on the fence here on the walkway to the campsite. So if you do camp there, you are very likely to see this little guy. Down at the lake there's black swans. They're beautiful and there's many of them. The ocean is long and beautiful and you can walk either direction. We walked up at the end of the beach to the right. There's a trail up a steep ladder, well, staircase, and then this beautiful walk on the way back that is yeah, a couple kilometers, but leads to beautiful views and then back to the campground. So yes, if you have a weekend and want to get away for 2 free nights and have an enclosed vehicle, this is the place to go— Lake Tyers, Victoria.
