Kids learn to bake muffins while an instructor teaches the program's 8 Laws of Health: nutrition, exercise, water, sunlight, temperance, fresh air, rest, and trust in God. Parents say it builds community and helps families make new friends.

Something we always need to do before we wash— I mean, sorry, something we always need to do before we do cooking is wash our hands. Wash our hands, that's right. You need to wash your hands. Yeah, I mean, we've got young kids who enjoy getting into our kitchen and messing the place up.
Yep.
And so we just thought that if we could do it for other kids they'd enjoy it too. Added with the bonus of health, we do a really good benefit for the kids and also the mums, parents can learn a lot too along the way. The next thing that we need to use today is the flour. Now don't take it just yet, we need to sieve our flour, okay? So we're gonna grab some sieves.
Well, everything was thought through that it was, you know, geared towards the kids, so like the table with the little stools to bring them up to the the right height and having the ingredients sort of pre— all ready to go and making it easier for them. Yeah, it's just really well thought out and a great program.
On the edge of the bowl, pour it in your sieve, that's right, and give your sieve a good shake like that and it's going to start going down into your bowl.
The kids loved cooking and eating healthy food. And they loved the bonding time with other friends as well.
Now what else is on our table today? What other ingredients can you see? Yes? Milk. Milk. What about a dry ingredient? What else can you see?
Gaff? We were new here to the town, so we thought, well, we don't have many friends here, and we thought, what best way of meeting new people? And we enjoy cooking with the kids, so we thought, hey, how about we start making cooking with other mums and kids to get to know them. And we've made some awesome friends just from it. And most of them are from it today too.
We've got all of our dry ingredients now in our bowl, haven't we? You're right, Rory. So what I want you to do now is move your big bowl out the front a little bit. Don't knock over the the wet ingredients and take your small bowl, bring it in front of you.
It was just a great experience and it was nice to meet people, people that I didn't know. Yep. Yeah, lovely atmosphere, wonderful, wonderful.
Now this is the stage we've all been waiting for. Ah! Put the wet ingredients, lift it up carefully, into the big bowl and in it goes. That's right. Just look around and you can see that people put on their best face in front of everyone, but in their homes, you know, when they're at home, sometimes people are really struggling. I think that whole person health can really help people to cope better with life. Life can throw some pretty rough stuff at you. So Little Chef is more than just cooking a healthy recipe. It's 8 Laws of Health which teach us whole person health. Nutrition is just one of them. Exercise, water, sunlight, temperance, so we're not overeating, we're not overdoing everything, fresh air, rest, and also trust in God. So all of these things combined can make us a person who is wholly healthy, not just nutritionally healthy. 2 muffin containers, 2 of these little trays. We gotta put them on our tray, we're gonna put them in the oven, and then we're gonna cook them. Yeah? So fill up 2 and then we'll put them on the trays. Thanks, Dave. Thanks, kids. And you know what else we're gonna do in a minute?
Play!
Not just play, we're gonna have a bit of an exercise. What do you think about exercise? Is that good for us? Yes! Yes? What's good about exercise, you think?
Running! Running!
Running and being healthy. Yes, you're exactly right. Exercise helps our body to work and to be strong. Yes. Kids are fairly healthy anyway because they're so active, which is good. I guess I just hope that something that they learn as a young child they will take with them into their adult, you know, late teen, adult years, you know, being aware that health is important, but also being aware that these health principles were given to us by someone who really cares about us. Boy, did you have a good play? A good bit of exercise? And a drink of water?
Yeah!
Water's important, isn't it? I had two! Good on ya! Water's really good. Pardon? Oh, that's alright, we'll have one in a minute. Water's really important, isn't it? Our whole body uses water all the way through it. Everywhere your body uses it. Everywhere. Okay, but look what we've got. This is your food. Now remember, wait just one second, just one second, just one second. Before you have anything, remember, we don't want to eat everything, do we? Otherwise what will happen? We'll get sick. Yeah, I really hope that Little Chefs will become something that will just be, you know, a fairly succinct kind of thing where kids can learn what will benefit them the most, you know, and they'll take that with them. What do you think, kids? Good. Good? And who cooked it? Wow! Yeah, alright! Give ourselves— oh, you can't really clap, will you? But I'll give yourself your clap. Good cooking, kids! Did you have fun? Yeah? Good job. Thanks for cooking!
